QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 10:42 PM) So May cant play offense or defense. That's good to know. Yep I can handle the no offense thing but when you can't make plays like that, albeit a difficult one, you are not very useful

I was in a south side bar/restaurant a few months ago and noted to the waitress how there was nothing but Cub s*** on the wall-half kidding of course. She told me indignantly that that was a dumb thing to say before I ordered the food and that I was a sore loser Sox fan, which was accurate

The 90s and 00s Sox were basically the Braves of the same span
chisoxt replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
During this span, We had two distinctive cores of players with only Frank Thomas being the common thread. Hands down, the core from the 90s I believe was the best - Frank, Robin, Black Jack, Alex, Wilson, Ray, OneDog. Unfortunately, our farm system stopped producing (perhaps because the Chairman dumped Himes and Goldis who built the organization, and Reinsdorf refused to add top or even middle tier free agents until it was too late when we signed Albert Belle. And oh, there was that strike thing..... -
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 01:54 AM) There are rumors out there stating Kenny Williams will finally step down from his post on Monday. Can this actually be true? If true then the dominoes will start to fall into place and a rebuild will commence ....I would not be surprised if Sale was the first to go.

Was Terry Bevington a better manager than Robin Ventura?
chisoxt replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That this is even a discussion point is indicative of the fact that hiring the right person to lead has never been a huge priority for this organization -
Jose Abreu: White Sox Don't Have Same Desire to Win As Royals
chisoxt replied to Dunt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 03:17 PM) You know, probably doesn't matter. But it seemed like the Royals all came up together as a group through the minors, winning together. That's a philosophy that the Cards use, and Twins as well. Now, our farm system really hasn't been a huge contributor to our roster, but we have a group that I'm really pumped for from this and last years drafts. I'd like to let them play together and win like they did at Great Falls, vs prioritizing personal challenges and putting them on garbage teams all over system. May not matter, may prolong time up, but there are a lot of college talents that we drafted, see if they can learn how to win as a group. We'll also see if out management has the patience to hold on to these young guys instead of their typical approach of 'leveraging' them for has been veterans that Kenny at one time had the hots for -
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 01:14 AM) Avi sucks on defense and this umpire hates Rodon. Yep that ball should have been caught - too bad our announcers rarely point out stuff like that

Sept 12th Game Thread: White Sox-Indians
chisoxt replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2016 Season in Review
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2016 -> 01:42 AM) Great game so far for Anderson Is it true that for a moment he was the piece we were giving up to get James Shields? -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 4, 2016 -> 09:48 PM) Why is it when the teams sucks, the manager gets blamed, the hitting coach gets blamed, and when it's good, they really don't get much credit. Yet, with Cooper it is exactly the opposite. He gets credit for all their success, no no blame for their failure. Let the new manager pick his own pitching coach. I think that's what poisoned the manager selection process last time

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 02:24 AM) Any talk about Jones being a "future closer" needs to end immediately. He's not even a good set up man. Eight blown saves chances this year already and he is personally responsible for five of the Sox 10 losses this year where they took a lead into the 7th inning or later. Yet the brain trust gave him a three year contract. OK then. If the Sox are going to "go for it" yet again next year, they basically have to rebuild this bullpen from scratch...and that's awful hard to do in one off season. Mark Most of the time, my eye test of a players performance jives with the advanced statistics of how well a player is actually doing. However in the case with Nate, it is not the case. The eye test says he's been bad but his advanced metrics say otherwise.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 01:53 AM) Rodon loses another win cause of the garbage bullpen. For some reason, nat e jones' advance statistics are very favorable and good -I can't see why

August 14th Game Thread: ChiSox @Miami Marlins

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) Chris Sale can forget about the Cy Young. Hasn't won a game since before the All Star break (to be fair thanks in part to his bullpen "friends.") And regarding Sanchez, two outs you are going on the pitch, no excuse for that especially with Miami not holding him close to the bag. Mark Second bone headed play by Sanchez within a week where he was asked to pinch run late in the game. Yet another sox product with zero baseball sense or ability -

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 05:53 PM) This is one of those good days, even when sox are bad. Beautiful (albeit hot) out, smoking some meat and watching Sale pitch and Saladino throw leather. What are you smoking ? -
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 12:35 AM) Also every poster who talked about Shields being "fixed" after his fluke run, and everyone who sarcastically dismissed people pointing out his peripherals I have a feeling that there is one person in particular in the front office who also makes light of Periferral stats. Too bad Jerry didn't let him go to Toronto

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
chisoxt replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 05:13 PM) And considering this IS Jerry's team we are talking about... never. Maybe Jerry remembers how much his ownership group subtley crapped all over Veeck's regime right after they took ownership...Perhaps he's fearful that Cuban would do the same thing to him.. -

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
chisoxt replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 12:18 AM) You laugh now, but all you have to do is look around professional sports to know that there are much worse ownership groups worse than the one we have. It hard to see past your hatred, but it is true. I actually think the current ownership is dysfunctional and inept but you raise a good point- sort of like, 'the devil known' . The current ownership also is saddled with very little debt which makes it a bit easier to operate. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 10:09 PM) Considering the Cell has plenty of parking space, is a Metra stop and right off the highway, I'd leave it be. The Sox have one of the best lease agreements in baseball and would be difficult (but not impossible) for any city to match -
Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
chisoxt replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I remember Bernstein talking about the next owners of the Sox a couple of months ago, claiming that he has some inside information with a minority owner of the team...a claim that I have no reason to dispute. He mentioned that in speaking with this individual they believed that the next owner of the team would have to undertake a gut rebranding of the franchise, including a new stadium somewhere closer to downtown. Well if the team is worth $1 billion, another $1.5 billion for a stadium, that's a pretty significant investment. -
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 05:02 AM) Nate Jones is not a closer folks (neither is Robertson). Something about Kansas City and the Sox bullpen isn't there? Fourth game THIS SEASON the Sox led K.C. in the 7th inning or later...and lost. Mark Wasn't Hahn on the radio recently talking about how great Sox management was at finding pitching? They're good at finding the occasional starter, but they can't find relief pitching with a roadmap.

I'm putting Nate Jones in third place on the most disappointing Sox after Abreu and Rodon

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 11:44 PM) Man, at this rate I'll be surprised if any team has interest in him. Guy is more fragile than glass. It's not as though they were no warning signs in his previous history that would lead you to believe he could stay off the disabled list for an extended period of time. Is the socks organization to a point where they are now saying perm ca is the sox organization to a point where they are now saying 'Herm can fix him'?

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 04:01 AM) Not me. I'd almost sell my soul to have a run like they had from 51-67. Knowing they were going to win more then they lost at the end of the year, knowing they had a reasonable chance to make the expanded playoffs more then once every seven years and knowing that fans and the media actually cared. You can't win the World Series if you don't get to the playoffs first. That's the initial step...after that it's a crapshoot, especially in a short series. Mark Yep...This current product is so unwatchable, I'm not sure why the hesitation on the part of ownership. Its almost as though they have little to se. My theory is that Hahn/Williams have whiffed so badly on these prospects for short term rental deals recently that they do not trust that they can make very effective deals given their apparent advanced scouting limitations.
