  1. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) Let's play devils advocate --- Lee>Podsednik Maggs>Dye That's making yourself worse with two acquisitions. The biggest gain to the pitching staff is a guy who has averaged 40IP the last two years and might be 40+ years old. The biggest gain in the IF is a complete unknown, who neyer acknowledges might have the biggest impact of the group. Pierz is a large upgrade assuming he can quit being a douche to those around him. I see your point. But the way I look at it, the worst that can happen is we fail to win the divison. Just like we've failed in 01, 02, 03, and 04. So if we don't win it this year, it sure as hell won't be because we didn't have Maggs or Lee.
  2. If Pods can give us .280/.350/60-70 sb's to go with Vizcaino, I would consider the trade a success, even without factoring in the money it freed up for our other signings.
  3. QUOTE(ShySox72 @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 09:37 AM) According to foxsport.com ... "Carl Everett has dropped 15 pounds during the offseason in an effort to return to top playing shape. Everett suffered through a myriad of injuries during the 2004 season, which not only hampered his overall production but also his physical conditioning. As a switch hitter with power from both sides and more than a little bit of speed, a healthy Everett will be a huge plus for the White Sox. . . . " Very, very good to hear. I wasn't at Soxfest, so I didn't get a chance to see hm for myself. I think will be just fine until Frank is ready.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) You're going to have 200 more dollars to play around with come october. lol@rowand, Remember how everybody in here had the Slubs in the series and we were the only two that said they would eventually choke? I believe everybody said we needed to take off our white sox colored glasses and get out of denial.
  5. I'd take that bet. The Slubs lost Alou, Sosa, Clement, Grudzalanek.. while failing to upgrade their terrible bullpen. They've still got one of the better pitching staffs in the game, but can Wood and Prior stay healthy? Will Maddux hold up? Will Rusch prove last year wasn't a fluke? Can Dubois and Hollandsworth atleast come close to the same type of production as Sosa and Alou? All are legitimate questions. I realize we have questions as well. Can Pods regain his 2003 form? How will Iguchi do? Will big Frank come back strong? Can Dye and Hernandez stay healthy? It's gonna be a very interesting season for both teams.
  6. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) Please Burnitz, go to the Slubs.
  7. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) I am gonna say the reason the bulls lost is they made 21 out of 35 free throws and turned the ball over twenty times. That pretty much sums it up. By the way, who the hell is that in your avatar? lol
  8. I'll be extremely pissed off if they land Huff. Why would the Rays wanna trade him anyway? He's a very solid player who's cheap at the moment. I hope the Slubs end up with Burnitz, that would be too funny.
  9. I just want the playoffs. I don't care what seed we get. Getting to the playoffs will be a wonderful step in the right direction for this franchise.
  10. What the hell is he talking about? As far as Sox fans being too optimistic, I'm gonna take the wait and see approach. I will say this team has the "potential" to be VERY good. We need some guys to have bounce back seasons "Posednik" we need some guys to stay healthy "El Duque, Dye" and we need a couple guys to realize their talent "Contreras, Crede." If all that happens, this team can be scary good, all are realistic possibilities.

  12. What does "Shingo continue to shock pitchers mean?" Don't you mean hitters? And A.J. Gelling? What does that mean? Anyway, There's no one main thing that has to happened for us to win the central, It has to be a TEAM effort. EVERYBODY has to step up and contribute.
  13. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) Duke just lost to an unranked Maryland team tonight by 9 at home. That'll knock them down in the rankings a bit most likely. All those Duke fans can't shut the f*** up about them being #1 now.
  14. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) 1998 Bulls vs. 04-05 Bulls (of course not the stats for the whole year) Thought I'd compare the champs to the Bulls of the present, just to see how we match up (didn't match players all by position, for ex: pippen and kirk): PPG RPG APG BPG FG% Michael Jordan 28.7 5.8 3.5 .55 .465 vs. Ben Gordon 13.1 2.3 1.8 .05 .431 (Jordan is better but he did help tutor Gordon) Scottie Pippen 19.1 5.2 5.8 .98 .447 vs. Kirk Hinrich 16.2 4.1 7.1 .30 .403 Toni Kukoc 13.3 4.4 4.2 .50 .455 vs. Loul Deng 12.5 5.6 2.4 .50 .427 Luc Longley 11.4 5.9 2.8 1.07 .455 vs. Eddy Curry 15.8 5.8 .8 .95 .537 Dennis Rodman 4.7 15.0 2.9 .23 .431 vs. Tyson Chandler 8.0 9.2 .9 1.85 .491 TEAM PPG RBG APG BPG FG% FT% 3P% OPPG 1998 Bulls 96.7 44.9 23.8 4.30 .451 .743 .323 89.6 04-05 Bulls 91.9 43.3 22.1 4.93 .434 .747 .340 91.4 Keep in mind that at the beginning of the season we struggled and allowed more points and our numbers were low. These are just stats but looking at this we could be in for one hell of a ride. What do you think? You are losing your mind if you think this current Bulls team is even in the same galaxy as any of the Championship teams.
  15. Offense=Pods Pitching=Contreras
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) nah come the sox season my posting will tune down... i need the sox to comeback im dieing having to watch the bulls and bears... need my white sox I feel you bro. I love the Bulls, Bears and the Illini. But none of them bring me the same type of joy that Whitesox baseball does.
  17. I became a Sox fan in 1990. So I can't really comment on any other decade. I gotta go with Big Frank as my favorite player for 91-2000. Actually, he's my current favorite player as well. I'm not sure I would've ever gotten into the White Sox had it not been for hurt.
  18. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) .350-.400 is what i see the bulls going, if that. I wouldn't be surprised, I think will really find out how good this team is next month.
  19. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) In my latest issue of Baseball America, it says Pablo Ozuna is batting .344 with 3 homers and 18 rbi's, but more importantly he has 24 stolen bases in 184 at bats in the Domican League. That sick. This guy should beat Valdez for the Utility spot. Sounds good.
  20. I must have missed the Timo game. I don't even remember it. So I had to vote the "Joe Crede" call.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) man if we all mad about a win now after 7 in a row i can just imagine us in February thats going to be a very angry month to say the least. That's why we need to finish this month strong. I'll be ESTATIC if we can even go .500 during February.
  22. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) It's f***ing histerical how some of you people are calling games vs. Boston givens. Welcome back to the bandwagon, YOU were the only one that guaranteed anything. I don't recall anybody saying a win against the Celtics was guranteed.
  23. Our shooting in the second half was horrible. Oh well, Not too surprised we lost this one. I was very impressed with Eddy. He was pretty agressive and did a good job on establishing low post position. He has to improve his passing though. When he's got it rollin like he did tonight he's gonna be double teamed at will. He needs to get better at finding the open man.
  24. QUOTE(TLAK @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 06:04 PM) Everyone is so worried about Willie that Juan Uribe is getting a free pass. Don't forget he went into such a slump last year, hitting .123 in July, that he had to be benched. I think Uribe is easily as big of a risk as Willie. If Juan goes south again for an extended period who are they going to play at SS? The current answer is Wilson Valdez or maybe the minor leaguer they signed today, Ozuna. Is Kelly Dransfeldt still with the team? He wasn't in the Sox ST article but they didn't list all the invites. Both middle infield positions are big ifs, and the guys behind them are even bigger ifs, this could be the Achilles heel of this team. That and Mr. Crede.
