  1. Ive read some articles that suggested a Hamill/Bones rematch.....I for one hope that doesnt happen. Yes Hamill "won" the fight but Johnny Bones Jones deserves a better fight, maybe a Forrest Griffin or a Keith Jardine matchup, someone that will really put him in the mix with a win.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) I dont know. I just know that the we hear about the 65th team every year and that there are fans of teams who constantly believe that they deserved a similar chance. I personally think 64 is a large enough field, but I also would be pretty upset if my team went 20-11 and some how didnt make the tournament while another team that was 19-12 did. But this is just this year. Next year there could be 10 teams with 1 loss and 10 teams with 2 losses, and maybe one of those 2 loss teams beat a 1 loss team. There is just no way to really create a fair system. Its fun to watch, but its just entertainment. Right, but at the very least you can make the argument well if you only loss 1 time or if you went undefeated you would be in. As apposed to TCU/Boise/Cincy where they didnt lose at all and still not getting a chance for the championship. Yes, there will always be some teams that feel sleighted(sp?) but atleast in a playoff scenario if you go undefeated you will be in the playoffs.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) Not every team. There is always an arbitrary line drawn where one team does not get a chance. In the basketball tournament that line is 64, if you are the 65th team you dont get a chance. In football if there was a playoff it would be the 9th team, or the 17th team, or whatever the case may be. "Deserve" is arbitrary. We each define it our own way. Well 64 is a big number, if you arent in the top 64 do you really deserve a shot to win it all? And in Football right now there are 5 undefeated teams, so without a doubt they all deserve a shot, and that still leaves room for three 1 loss teams if you want to make it 8 teams. Im much more sympathetic to team going undefeated and not having a shot at the playoffs or a team with a tough schedule and only 1 loss than I would be to a 2 or 3 loss team.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 10:33 AM) All the "Ambassador Tony Dungy" stuff was annoying me for awhile. Is it possible he was a tad overrated as a coach? 12-0 under Caldwell. Don't get me wrong, I think Dungy's record as a coach speaks for itself, but can we stop looking at him for answers to everything in the NFL. The way I look at it is Tony Dungy is a defensive minded coach, that defense was never that good in Indy... it had its ups and downs but especially for having 2 of the better pass rushers in the league and having an offense that almost forced the other team to pass if you could make a stop or two, not impressed. Not to say he is a bad coach, he had a lot of successful years in Tampa if I remember right with a pretty poor offense.
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) Its for entertainment. There is no perfect system. Even in basketball the tournament doesnt mean that the best team wins, it just is fun to watch. The system now, is a lot better than it was where you may not have even seen Alabama/Texas, and instead saw Alabama play a random team, Texas play a random team and the other unbeaten teams not play either. The old system would have had potentially 3-4 ties of undefeated teams. Bowl games are good for some reasons, bad for others, but they give us entertainment and that is the goal. Right but every team that deserves a chance has the possibility to win, while in Football you have three undefeated teams who arent getting a chance at all and TCU is getting a slap in the face by being matched up vs Boise.
  6. QUOTE (The Critic @ Dec 6, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) Schaub did a nice job escaping the Vanilla Mudslide, but took a HEAVY shot to the ear/temple and went night-night. Jon Bones Jones got DQ'd for using the point of the elbow to Matt Hamill's face, but Jones' ankle sweep takedown of Hamill was SICK! That Kimbo/Alexander match was worthless. Jones should have only gotten a point taken away and won the match, Hamill's shoulder got messed up before the illegal blows even took place. Also, it was ridiculous the ref didnt stop the fight when Jones was just pummeling away on Hamill, Ive heard that Mazzagatti or whatever is the worse MMA ref and that night he showed it.
  7. I actually would be pretty happy with a JJ Putz and Vlad signing. While ideally we would make some big splashes in f/a and trade for Adrian Gonzalez, I think those 2 players are pretty good can be had for a reasonable price and would help the team out. I do think even with those 2 we would still need one more player, whether its Nick Johnson if they want to play Vlad in the OF or Id love a Johnny Damon signing.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) Just back into Chicago literally 15 minutes ago and am already eating some pizza from Lou's. Best pizza ever. I feel you, Im liking my time in Carbondale but god does it feel good to be home.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) Konerko being a part of the deal makes it much more probable because it gives the Sox some financial flexibility to fill other holes while getting a huge bat. Im a big fan of Danks2 and Flowers, that being said if we can only keep one have to go with Flowers 100%. Depending on what we do with the left over money this team could be pretty fantastic next season, maybe Jason Bay and Nick Johnson wouldnt be 2 unreasonable.
  10. Brandon Paul breaks an illini record by scoring 22 points his first game, previous high by a freshmen's debut was 21 points. Both Paul and Richardson looked good out there, for the short time i saw him cant say the same for Griffey.
  11. I wouldnt care to kill the person myself or even watch him die, I think thats a bit barbaric. I do think that prison should be different for individuals serving life sentences/death row though. The point of prison imo anyways is to rehabilitate individuals so they can live future crime free lives, those serving life sentences/death row don't need this and shouldnt be rewarded the priviledges other prisoners have.
  12. Yeah if Lovie isnt atleast on the hotseat after this game, something is wrong.... bring on Mike Shanahan!
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 05:50 PM) way to go jordan. Pretty selfish move to cost your school the contract that supplies all its teams with their athletic gear cause you want to wear your daddys shoes. I'm sure Nike was so concerned whether or not a crappy player on a crappy conference USA team was wearing their shoes. From what I understand part of his recruitment to that school was him wearing the shoes of his choice, so dont put any blame on Jordan, the school dug its own hole.
  14. I loved Getz as a utility player dont get me wrong, but I think some of you are way over-reacting... Teahen is a better offensive player and although he has had his ups and downs we acquired a better player today.
  15. If Damon can be had for the right price he would be a perfect 2 year stop gap, he isnt much a of stolen base threat but without looking at his stats I think he still hits at a good avg. and a good obp. The whitesox would still need too add another bat to make sure the offense isnt as pathetic as it was last season.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 12:37 PM) link Supposedly Toronto wants some young forwards for Kaberle, who has 17 points in 12 games. Lord only knows if this is true, but we certainly have young forwards to deal from (I'm thinking Ladd, Versteeg, etc, none of the big guns). Ladd is my favorite player after Kane, so hopefully we can hang on to him.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) I was actually talking about the Bears oline, but the Packers oline sucks too. Ain't as bad as the Bears though. Rodgers holds onto the ball for extended periods of time. You must of forgot week 1 when we played the Packers, their O-Line is probably the only one in the league that is worse than the Bears. It is kinda sad because both teams could definitely be playoff calibur if they had avg. to above avg. O-Lines.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) People are definitely going to be pissed at them. And they still have games against Penn State and Ohio State right? Id imagine he would have atleast 1 more season to turn things around there, I think next season with Tate Forcier having a year under his belt they can be a pretty good team.
  19. QUOTE (knightd1 @ Oct 28, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) Played the new demo for Left 4 Dead 2. It could be just as good as the first if not better, which isn't what I expected. B) Where did you get the demo?
  20. Ok makes sense now, Yeah I had no idea who TI was either.
  21. QUOTE (kev211 @ Oct 26, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) 2/10=/= I'm saying ISU would win 2-3 games. So what exactly are we arguing about? haha Whats wrong with this scenario is the 2 teams arent playing each other 10 times, only 1 game so the better team(illini) wouldnt have any let down games against the worse team(isu) if they did play 10 in a row. So in 1 game, I wouldnt give ISU much of a shot to win, 10% sounds about right.
  22. If we do indeed miss the playoffs this season thats 3 in a row, does Lovie get fired or he get another season?
  23. I think the Frank Omiyale(sp?) experiment at LG needs to end, on the radio it sounded he was having a horrible first half and I know he was getting no push at all in 2nd half and had 1-2 penalties. Put Beekman back out there, he isnt anything special but his production last season was definitely an upgrade.
  24. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 17, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) I agree. Pryor might not be the greatest passer but he should be progressing given his athletic abilities. He's really at a standstill development wise. The same can be said about Juice Williams, although not as talented as Pryor he has regressed big time this season.
