Anyone have a scouting report on Dane Williams, ive heard Bearsox mention him a couple times but dont know anything about him.
-
Most scouts say you need to re-tool your swing to be successful in the majors, do you agree? If so, how do you plan to accomplish it?

Hanley Ramirez Justin Upton Evan Longoria Adam Jones Albert Pujols Tim Lincecum Chad Billingsly Felix Hernandez Stephen Strasburg Roy Halladay

Just thought might be good to start an independent thread since the draft is all over so people can discuss what they thought of it as a whole, highlight the players that have the chance of being top prospects, and maybe can announce the signings of players if someone cares to make a post with a list of them all or edit it onto mine.

I wanted Smoak, Skipworth. and Beckham in that order. That being said, Skipworth still really young but has been horrible so far and I am plenty happy with Beckham, especially after I had the chance to see him play in the college world series a couple times.

THE OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2009 MLB DRAFT THREAD
GoodAsGould replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
Not a fan of this pick although my knowledge of the guy is admittingly not too high, just other picks Id have preferred. -
Yeah, so when is this guy going to be on TV so we can all watch our future star?

THE OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2009 MLB DRAFT THREAD

I have mixed feelings about Mitchell, I was hoping for Arnett/Scheppers although not realisticly expecting Scheppers. That being said I hope we take a couple tough to sign guys in Luke Bailey and Ian Krol, dont know why but for some reason really on Bailey's bandwagon. -

Boras wants $50M signing bonus for Strasburg!?
GoodAsGould replied to bschmaranz's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) If the Nats draft Strasburg and don't sign him, then end up with the #1 next year too, could they draft him again? I think they would actually end up with the 2nd pick, and the player would have to give them consent to draft him twice. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) I really hope he asks for it and sticks to his guns, because that might be the straw that breaks this stupid draft system's back finally. I would LOVE to see the draft done the way the NBA does it with very strict and tight price ranges based on where a player is picked. The only reason Id be against it, would be teams would be discouraged to draft the talented tough to sign guys in the later rounds because they wouldn't be able to give them first round money to not go to college. -
Tyler Kuhn is one of my favorite prospects, his career hasnt taken off as I hoped it would, but hopefully he gets promoted soon and whacks the ball around in high A.

QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 03:03 AM) I could see the Mets, Milwaukee, Rays and Rangers all interested in Aj Why would the Rangers want AJ? They traded one catcher this off-season and have 3 more that could be starters on a lot of teams.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) Wow, your standard for proof sure has changed... So which is it? Is trained speculation and/or hearsay on the part of Canseco enough for the HOF test, or do we need hearsay and/or speculation from a reliable second-hand source as well? Canseco never had direct OR second-hand information on Giambi 'roiding either, yet he still correctly called him on it. It's not exactly a shocker that a guy who used roids for 20 or so years would be able to accurately identify fellow users in his profession. Ok, how about stop twisting my posts. Canseco was teammates with both Giambi/McGwire so he had more inside knowledge of what those two were doing, He was never a teammate with Sosa and said himself he has no evidence in the least to say for sure Sosa did anything, while he made it clear with no doubt that Giambi/McGwire were both roiders. Which is why unless a former teammate or a test comes up, I cant convict Sosa.
-
From what I have heard, Canseco admitted he has no evidence at all to accuse Sosa of being on roids, while with others he has accused he had direct information or 2nd hand information that he considered reliable. Im sorry, I dont make someone guilty because Canseco thinks he does without any sources or knowledge of seeing it himself.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 06:55 AM) Sounds like a certain someone I already know of... and his names rhymes with wields... It makes sense for the Rockies to stick with Stewart. It does not make sense for the Sox to stick with...whats his name now? Well a lot of differences, for one, Stewart can hit a fastball. Besides that, Stewart hasn't been able to play everyday, has come in as a pinch hitter a lot of games, playing out of position already, has 8 HR's compared to Fields 2, is three years younger, and while both are not good a better BB/K ratio as well. I'm not sure what kind of defense Stewart brings to the table, but if he has the ability to play 2B, I'm assuming it is better than Fields as well.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) The "evidence" against McGwire is basically hearsay in Canseco's book. That's enough for me, as I happen to think that Canseco told the truth in that first book, but it's not anything close to objective or definitive. It's not like he failed a drug test or anything. If McGwire doesn't get in, I don't see how Sosa will. McGwire isnt on trial to go to jail, this is about getting into the HoF, so whether its hearsay or not, its enough.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) The evidence is right in front of your eyes though regardless of if he was stupid enough to get caught. Sosa juiced and he's one of the most obvious cases. Someone getting bigger isn't evidence, there are ways to bulk up naturally.... And yes, I do think he most likely used roids of some sorts, but if all my proof is he got bigger that most certainly isn't enough.
-
There isnt as much evidence against Sosa I think to keep him out of the HOF. Even in Canseco's book, he just mentioned its a possibility that Sosa used roids but he didnt have any actual proof to back it up of any sort. I could go either way with Sammy, but I think if not first ballot I would eventually vote him in, while the evidence against Bonds/Mcguire/Palmiero/A-Rod are all too much for me ever to cast a vote their way.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 10:20 AM) Nobody was specifically comparing the 2. Each team lost an all star player. End of story. So if the Lakers lost Kobe thats the same as the Magic losing Nelson? -
Derrick Rose's High School Grades Were Altered
GoodAsGould replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 12:00 PM) I don't really think so. If he is guilty, he stays quiet. If he is innocent, he speaks out on his behalf. Not so crazy logic. This also says a lot about the Bulls future superstar's character if he isn't man enough to face the media regardless of his guilt or innocence. So Roger Clemens is innocent because he denies anything to do with steroids? And so is Bonds, because he denies knowingly using HGH/Roids? Your logic doesnt make any sense..... -
How did Nate McLouth end up in Atlanta and not here?
GoodAsGould replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Im not overly impressed with any of the prospects the Pirates got for McLouth, I dont think any of them end up being impact players in the majors at all. The one who might seems to be Locke, but Gorky's to me looks like a 4th OF and the 3rd guy has stunk in the majors already. -
Yeah I couldnt believe the Rockies werent playing Stewart everyday and actually giving Clint Barmes more playing time. I havent been paying attention since they fired Clint Hurdle though, maybe the new manager has some sense in him. But Stewart would definitely be a guy I'd love to see starting for the whitesox at 3B next season if it was reasonable.
-
I dont care if they move him from I guessing 2B/3B mostly, as long as he gets consistant ab's.
