The press conference thread
Obviously ten years is an exaggeration, but even mentioning this appears long-term pitching deals are off the table.

Lol non-answer to whoever asked a great question on whh he's qualified if the minors have been underperforming.

The press conference thread
How the f*** is Getz an exception to hiring inside the organization? How does Bruce Levine have a job?

Cleveland claims Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez
It's a business but yeah can't imagine Giolito happy about going to Cleveland.
-
It’s official - Getz named SVP & GM
I realize they have 0 voting powers but how does Jerry face the other 80% shareholders when making moves like this? I guess George Lucas doesn't care that much. But someone there has to. Even his own son moved the Bulls in a different direction.

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
We'll see. Unable to be traded and no waiver claims would indicate he's being something being blackballed.

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
If he doesn't get picked up, there's a decent chance the mutual option gets picked up I think, which would be a rarity. The Sox pick it up since they already have to pay him 4 million and he's much better than the extra 8 million option. Clevinger sees he couldn't be traded, and now couldn't be waived, may realize there's no market for him. We shall see though.

You can assume he's on waivers too.

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
Does the buyout still hit if the Sox agree to the mutual option and Clevinger doesnt?

- Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
As for Giolito, claim him and find something in the CBA that still makes him Qualifying Offer-Elgibile as a result.- Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Would love Lopez with a new pitching coach.- After an exhaustive search, Getz named GM/VP
Double hell- After an exhaustive search, Getz named GM/VP
I'd rather have Haber over Getz. Not that I want either.- After an exhaustive search, Getz named GM/VP

Not sure man. Anything defending Hahn or feeling bad for Hahn as if he's some victim gets upvoted to the top every time.- Reinsdorf considers moving White Sox out of Guaranteed Rate Field or selling team
It's not at all off the redline or train.- Update: 3 (2) fans injured by bullet in Guaranteed Rate field (split from game thread, police investigation underway)
Yeah, but it's true for any city. Take out Englewood and Austin and Chicago still has far more murders than anywhere else. And to my original point, all of those places you listed are closer in population to a Chicago neighborhood than they are to Chicago on the whole, which is why I find these comparisons nonsensical. Anyways the best way for Chicago to fix its reputation is to become less violent. If NYC can do it, we can do it too. That's my final say on the topic. Rather get back to this individual story.- Update: 3 (2) fans injured by bullet in Guaranteed Rate field (split from game thread, police investigation underway)
You could actually take those two out and Chicago would still have far and away the most murders of any city. Would still have 170 more murders than New York for example.- Update: 3 (2) fans injured by bullet in Guaranteed Rate field (split from game thread, police investigation underway)
Perhaps a dumb question, but is there any way this whole this is a hoax? Reddit seems to think so, but they also think Rick Hahn is a good GM. I'm not going to pretend to know anything about ballistics or how that bullet casing should look.- Update: 3 (2) fans injured by bullet in Guaranteed Rate field (split from game thread, police investigation underway)
Chicago has more murders than anywhere else in the country and it's not even close. The per capita stuff is ridiculous when the cities being compared are far closer in population to a single Chicago neighborhood than Chicago itself. Austin the neighborhood has 100k people and would be statistically the most dangerous place in the Western world if you isolated it out. It's ridiculous to use some affluent northshore area to ignore stuff like that. Philly is really the only place that compares to Chicago on the whole. That said Bridgeport is awesome. There's some shitty places around it though. You don't want its rep slipping because other idiots around it. - Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
