The Cubs would win this trade easy, in essence they'd be trading LaTroy Hawkins, Todd Walker, Ronnie Cedeno + 2 Spects for Alfonso Soriano and Kevin Mench That's 1 great offensive player and 1 very good offensive player for 2 pitchers they got for Hawkins, Todd Walker who isn't nearly as good as Soriano and some prospects like Cedeno and probably 2 pitchers. If this trade did go through, it would be a good trade for the Cubs to boost their offense though they reallly should be worrying a little more about their starting pitching at this point in time.

I've said this around 100 times. Sweeney is the worst possible fit for the Sox. 1.) He'd make $12.5M a year with the Sox, you could resign Konerko for not much more. 2.) He can't stay healty anymore. He can not be counted on to play a full season and the Sox have very minimal backup plans for 1B. 3.) He can't really play 1B anymore either, he's a defensive liability and is pretty much a full time DH at this point in his career. I really don't want to see Thome starting at 1B for the Sox next year. EDIT: Not to mention the fact that KC would never trade him to the Sox anyway. They turned down a Kothchman for Sweeney trade at the deadline last year, the Sox really couldn't match that offer anyway.

Well, we'll be paying Thome what? About $6M this year? And let's assume we give Garland a nice 3 year deal worth $7M for next year and we give Pierz a 3 year deal worth $4M next year. Crede gets $2.5M lets say. Without Kong that would put the teams payroll at ~ $75.475M Then if Kong recieves about $13M next year from us that puts the payroll at ~ $88.475M This includes payroll includes Ross Gload and excludes Timo Perez. There are also many approximations as well. So if salaries do fall roughly where I believe they will we'll have ~ $1.5M to spend on Bench help if the Sox go with a $90M team payroll and don't end up dumping anymore players. (Marte - $2.25M next year) This payroll includes the buyouts to Frank and Carl and is made up of 24 players. So there is one spot open.

If there's two things that Aaron did well at the dish it was hit with RISP and hit for a decent average. '05: RISP - 4 HR, 53 RBI .290/.366/.443/.809 RISP w/ 2out - 1 HR, 27 RBI .354/.417/.508/.924 Career BAs: '01 - .293 '02 - .258 '03 - .287 '04 - .310 '05 - .270 Career - .283 The problem was his very low OBP, inconsistency, excessive strikeouts and drop in power. Row was most definately expendable and I expected him to be traded but that statement just was not true.
