I liked it better when KW was a bit easier to read. When prompted so are we trading for X player, if he had a stone face nothing. If he giggled and made goofy comments, player X was here within a week.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) Between what Mark Gonzalez is saying, Ken Rosenthal is saying, and now Buster Olney is saying, Vazquez is not being shopped, but Garcia definetely is. Well maybe Freddy's antics at the Bosox series and showing up his teamates pushed this over the edge. That and his new style of pitching. If he isnt hurt and just decided not to throw hard, KW has to be pulling his hair out. Its like if Bobby Jenks just decided that 98 was too hard, so he would cruise it in there at 92 just for the hell of it.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) This Garcia/Vaz to the Mets definitely seems to have some validity to it. If it gets BMAC into the rotation, I am all for it. I think he can do a better job than either of them right now. Garcia is hardly hitting the upper 80s, and Vazquez current is a headcase with good stuff. Bmac has the tools, and more importantly the stones.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) Man, I'm struggling to find anything which could possibly be worse than that. It's also a Jerusalem post article, citing an unsourced leak from within the IDF, which means that either the IDF believes there's some nugget of truth to it, or the IDF is leaking it on purpose regardless of whether or not there is truth to it to try to build consensus for adding Iran to the list. And either way, the prospect is abjectly awful. If these guys get moved to Iran. Then Iran and Israel will be at war.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 10:30 AM) This 11 year old has the singing voice of a 25 year old! Too bad that only an 80 year old would listen to Yodeling. On the bright side, she can stop a martian invasion with her voice now.

What was the Point of Clemente "award" last nite?
southsideirish71 replied to Hangar18's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 04:21 PM) They stopped the game last nite, with Bud Selig going on about how great Roberto Clemente was, talking about his humanitarian work and play on the field. Didnt baseball already do this? Dont they already have an award for him? (Roberto Clemente award) What was the point of this award? What we saw last nite Already happened a number of years ago. I was not clear, but seems Mr Selig wasnt informed that the Clemente family already received recognition for Robertos achievements The only thing I think is that they should of had it in the pre-game ceremonies. Just before the 1st pitch, instead of interrupting the game. They can honor him as much as they want, he was a hell of a guy who deserves all of the props he gets. He truly was a great man. This was held in Pittsburg, and this is one of their most well known players. I see no problem with the recognition. Maybe the timing was a bit off as the game had already started. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 11:45 AM) WaPo. I hope he is overjoyed when the maverick missle brings down the house across the street. I hope they are giving candy out when the tanks roll through. What a bunch of retards. Praising a kidnapping like they won the world cup.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) There are literally millions of children in need of care from responsible adults. I understand that its frustrating to not make your own children without help. But then again there are millions of children already here. Who need help now. And although I don't fault the desire for IVF, I just think that the kids here deserve a parent more than parents deserve kids from their own bodies. Ya know? My wife and I had this discussion before we even got married. We had decided that if we couldnt have children of our own, we would adopt a child. That was just our personal views based on our faith. Now my brother and his wife are both going through fertility treatments right now to have a child. I told him of what happens, and asked him about adoption, but he wants one of his own. He is an adult and its really his decision. I will love my future neices/nephews that come out of that treatment. But I would also love any adopted children that they would have. Its a decision that each family has to make on their own. But as Rex and Jim have said before, there are some ethical issues with IVF that you have be made aware of.

Israel sends tanks into Lebanon after Hezbollah attack Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Dan Halutz told Israeli Channel 10, "If the soldiers are not returned we will turn Lebanon's clock back 20 years Nice to see that Hezbollah couldnt leave this alone. That they had to join the mess.

Sweet mother of God. Another f***ing Rowand rumor. Too much manlove for a player that a lot of people on this site wanted gone 2 years ago because he couldnt hit a slider, and crashed his dirtbike in the offseason.

Huff for 2 minor leaguers

He is foreign born, preaches offensive football. Is good with getting the best from his strikers. Has experience with the US team. Lives not that far away from the training center near LA. This is such a perfect fit its not even funny. Ditch Arena, get this guy and in 4 years we will do a heck of a lot better than we have done here this year. Jurgen quits as Coach of the Germans

I'm finally off of the Podsednik bandwagon (long)
southsideirish71 replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) Don't forget his awesome ability to be picked off first base at the drop of a hat. Last years version of Pods, hit line drives, hit the ball on the ground. Played okay defense with a noodle arm. had good reads on the basepaths and stole bases. This years version of Pods, hits a lot of popups, rarely hits the ball on the ground. Plays bad defense with a noodle arm, doesnt have good reads when he is on base, and he doesnt steal bases nearly at the pace he did last year before he got hurt. If you want to take a look. Pods in his rookie season to Pods in his 2nd season. Pods started to put the ball in the air more trying to get more pop on the ball. His BA dropped like a rock from the year before. Kind of similiar to what has happend from last year to this year. I think also Pods is still gunshy because of his hernia last year. Also last year we struggled to put runs on the board. The speedster getting into scoring position so we could scrape a run was much more important due to the situation. This years team can absolutely bomb you Hiroshima style from so many different players. Its a much more offensive team. -

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) Should be great to see all these same people that are always b****ing to shut up again once Pods goes over .300 in the 2nd half. The same people in this thread that said we should have relased him to waivers at the beginning of the season. Pure ignorance. Two things or threads you can always rely on seeing at soxtalk Overwhelming hatred for Podsednik. Overwhelming and Overrated love for Mark Buehrle and Jerry Owens. Afterall, they are both the present and the future. :headshake No coincedence that one of the most beloved White Sox players takes a bigger beating than Travis Hafner on this board. Ohh well, must be the soxtalk good ole Cubs fan philosophy kicking in again. Who cares if a player is on your team, if you dont like him, F him. Thanks for the good jokes though... Pablo and ROb playing better D in Left. f***in hilarious, I'm quite sure thats why we see them there so much when Pods was slumping. Has Rob even played LF this year?? LOl I know Pablo has, I think Anderson is still trying to help him up off the ground after diving for a routine fly ball and letting it roll to wall. If Pods can hit, catch balls hit near him fine. If pods cant hit, or catch balls near him, then exactly what does he provide. If you think his D has been good at all this year, then I suggest you take the homer glasses off for a minute. Why do you think that he has been pulled for Mack for a defensive replacement late in games. So that answers your, has he played LF this year. Ozuna is not good in LF either. But Mack probably is better than both as he is more of a corner OF not a CF. I dont think Jerry Owens is anything special. As for Mark Buerhle. Whats not to like. He is a guy who is a horse, that gives you a mid 3 ERA. Who is attacking Hafner on this board? He is a beast. -

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) Look at SABR metrics all you want, but they don't provide intangibles at all. Scott HAS heart, and the team loves that. Tell him to use that heart to catch easy fly balls that he f***s up. I dont care if he doesnt make the amazing play, just f***ing catch the balls hit to you. And if you have a poor arm, in late inning situations, you can play a few steps off of the warning track. You dont have to put your back to the track, especially if you are fast. If he does that sure. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) He should veto bears. Damn Godless killing machines anyways.ssss Thanks jackass, now there is water on my keyboard.

The Official, "What I did today thread"
southsideirish71 replied to The-Legend-Of-Pujols's topic in SLaM
Yesterday: Woke up. Actually my son woke me up, he kept yelling Dragon Tales. Turned on the dragon tales. Ate breakfast. Went to work. We are moving our datacenter at the end of this month. So I am spending lots of time going between the two facilities. Had a meeting with our cabling contractor, told due to petroleum prices our fiber optic prices have went up 10k. I love how everthing is blamed on the gas prices going up. Chinese food for lunch. Afternoon was fielding dumb calls on why X person was blocked doing X thing that has nothing to do with our business. Wife made a really good dinner one of my favorites, irish bangers/chips/ and white/black pudding. Now suspicious that wife has something up her sleeve because why make one of my favorites on a Monday. Watch home run derby. After watching Howard come back from the dead to beat Dye, Wife shows me new purse that she had bought today....now dinner makes sense. I ask her the price, she tells me it wasnt that much. I then of course check it on the internet. Then decided that was a bad idea after I see the price. Dooney and Burke = evil. Go to Lifetime, run 7 miles while watching Jon Kruk and Harold Reynolds play goofy softball. Get home, go to bed. -
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 08:54 PM) could be against increasing federal spending for Stem Cell Research. This bill has passed the Republican Held House and is predicted to easily pass the Republican Held Senate. Let's hope for 2/3rds passage. http://www.denverpost.com/nationworld/ci_4033656 My view is this. I am an organ donor, just like my wife is. Once you are dead, what they do with the organs doesnt really matter. If it can help someone, it would be the right thing to help that person. The same goes for stem cell research. I am not for abortion, but people are already aborting fetus's and the bodies are cast away, not buried as medical waste. I am not against using them for stem cell research and for a possible supply of stem cells later on. Some of my conservative legislators have a misguided view that this will start a run on abortions. That cause and effect is a weak link at best. As a diabetic the cure for my disease and a lot of other diseases probably lies within stem cell research. I hope for a cure, and we have seen some strides with Iclet cell replacement. I hope for the cure not just for myself, but for my son and future children. In my family the gene for diabetes is very very dominant. My grandfather, my mother, all 3 of her siblings, and at least 5 of my cousins all have diabetes. My mother watched her father die of complications when she was 10, I saw her pass away from complications a few years ago at 58. That is a strong link, and something that I am sad to say probably was passed on to my son. If this can help diabetics, and all sorts of other diseases then I am for it. Dying too soon when we have the technology to help fix this or in the future fix it, is stupid.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 08:51 PM) Seriously, f*** ROWAND. I am sick of hearing that we will deal for him. I would rather have BA patrolling the OF. Anderson will be one of the best defensive centerfielders in baseball the way he patrols center. Rowand did a nice job here, however when its all said and done, Anderson > Rowand defensively.

Talk about a meathead. Oh Boo Hoo someone said something to him, so he just had to react and headbut the guy. What a weak minded wuss. This guy would get eaten alive if he played some american sports where trash talking is part of the game. So whats the over/under on the amount of time that it would take Zindane to headbut AJ or Rodman.
