  1. The good thing is among the Sox prospects coming up , most have performed. Quero has regressed unfortunately. But there were a lot guys who couldve had sophomore slumps but didnt and thats why they are . 500 now along with other AL teams sputtering. Between Mune and Vargas, Martin and Burke and everything else I mentioned a lot has gone right. I don't know who is athletic enough to play CF among better prospects at other positions but I don't really concern myself very much over how its all going to shake out . Zavala currently is having a good year and previous years of being inconsistent you can chalk up to his age or non-linear development. You just hope the changes last and he's gained some knowledge to progress even more. There's not much doubt at all about what a good defensive CFer he is .Now its all about progress offensively which is a never ending battle of adjustments. Plus as I said you can trade infield prospects for OF Prospects at higher levels if you prefer that over tampering with farm debt to get established players that come with higher price tags that JR might be against.
  2. I have always said that the division games mean more. HOWEVER.. THE Cubs series is a good barometer of how the Sox would respond in a playoff type atmosphere even without guys like Teel and BMonty. The Cubs have lost important players too. Im out here in So Cal but even I know being removed from Chicago for a long time that the White Sox v Cubs games will be INTENSE ! Might be all kinds of fights in the stands.I really hope it remains civil but winning that series might really get some fans back in the ballpark to jumpstart summer attendance and a Big Sox Summer Party.
  3. You sound like someone else . Barring any setbacks 10 games is enough down there. May 25th to 28th Id expect him back but I also wouldnt rule out sooner. Venable said what he should say. That doesn't mean he's spending significant time with Charlotte. No rush but no wasting bullets either.
  4. It might and Id hate it even more if it also results in losing the Cubs games. It is an ugly lineup no doubt. Id love it if they went for the jugular against the Royals. The division games actually mean more but as far as excitement goes the Crosstown Classic is what makes Chicago take notice.
  5. Venable did this a week ago when the Sox had a chance to be .500 and move into 1st place and had a 5 game win streak on the line. I wasn't pleased but it was a stay the course move but it's also ignored a current hot streak , killed momentum and resulted in a 3 game losing skid. If the same thing happens losing the next series against the Cubs or being swept would kill a lot of the excitement going on just like last week but luckily they snapped out of it quickly. Might not like it now but it wont look so bad once Teel is back and Montgomery up. Quero is long past righting the ship . He will be sent down.Acuna may be gone.Benintendi has very little rope left. I hate it and it sucks but I understand it. Playing the long game because its a long season and bench guys have been contributing.
  6. Well you're in it until you aren't. And right now the Sox are in it and Im not going to count them out when it appears that a record with 80 something wins could win the division or get a wild card. If you suspect 90 something wins actually happens then ,hey, the Sox still outperformed expectancies. If not ,you wouldnt be the first fan around here to expect things to turn out one way and then they don't. The same thing goes for this assumption that the division is ripe for the taking.
  7. As long as JR is still owner its not hyperbolic at all. The Rays stockpile prospects by investing in the things that don't cost a lot compared to contracts of superstar talent . Because of JR thats what Getz is trying to do. Until that time when JR ceases to be owner they need to operate as if there isnt any money because JR will not spend what he doesn't have. It's the way he has always operated. Fans say spend money we'll show up when the team starts winning. JR says when you start showing up I' ll spend more money. All this has done is allow the city to become predominantly apathethic about the Sox and younger generations of fans gravitate towards the Cubs because they are a tourist attraction for locals and out of towners. When Ishbia is in charge maybe by then the Sox might have a functioning pipeline of talent that will allow Ishbia to spend money smartly instead of recklessly like the Mets or Angels.
  8. Fans spend way too much time obsessing about future moves as to how they it relates to the present. In 12 to 24 months we have no idea how any of the current players or prospects will be performing. Some sink some swim and others who were invisible suddenly appear. What appears to be a glut of talent can thin out very quickly due to injuries and non performance. The last rebuild did exactly that and most of their top draft picks fizzled out and they built no depth in other rounds of the draft or internationally. It all dried up very fast. Getz has tried to rebuild the talent pipeline internationally with the new Dominican Academy and new blood in that part of the organization. We have no idea if they might finally actually get some players out of it but its extremely necessary to the future depth of talent moving forward. But the near future for that might not be productive since youre getting such young players. Its still in its infancy . This is why we always hear that it's a good problem to have and teams like Tampa Bay navigate those waters better than anyone. We have no idea how long it'll be until the Ishbia's are the owners so its imperative that we keep building depth and keep the pipelines of talent acquisition running at a high level.
  9. It's a precarious position. Making the playoffs no matter what your record ,is a big deal. It generates revenue and for JR extra revenue is the only way he'll spend money. A good rest of the season will boost attendance and perhaps sponsors . You can't just ignore the business of baseball. Playoffs means being on national TV and more exposure for products and the White Sox as a global product. If you want the Sox to grow as a franchise and have more money to spend then you should want to make the playoff. You can't win a World Series without being in the playoffs. In the past the Sox have had circumstances with good records that fell just short of the playoffs. It would be nice for a change for circumstances that allow the team to be in the hunt to be a champion. It's not like these opportunities come along very often. What that means for the TDL is more complicated. Getz has not shown any inclination to trade top prospects. Thats depth. You need depth. But if they are in a strong position at the TDL do you really want to trade away the guys who have brought some stability to your pen like Dominguez or Hudson ? Your position in the upcoming draft is very strong. You might say ,just this once, that you play the hand you were dealt. Stay the course and see where it goes. No trades to just try to get marginally better that may hurt the course you have already set. There's is a trade you can make if you can find a taker for an advanced CF prospect in a prospect for prospect trade. That's the good thing about stockpiling SS prospects .In order to get a primary position prospect you usually have to give one up. I honestly don't know who's out there that fits as a CF for the near the future but I'd like BMonty to be in RF asap but Im guessing he may see quite a bit of time in CF once he's up. Who knows ,with Teel coming back and a strong whiff of Braden Montgomery that the Sox might smell a whole lot better and be approaching 90 wins at the end of the season.
  10. Kelenic gets a "solid" based on draft pedigree and batted ball metrics. The game is played between the lines . Still needs to start hitting the ball over the fence to get out of negative fWAR. Pereira .3 Peters .5 .321 BA over his last 20 games and a 3 OAA Romo .5 Antonacci .5 Grichuk .1 Dru Harris .2 Derek Hill .1 Tanner Murray 0 Kelenic -.2 (maybe -.1 after today) Reese McGuire -.2 Lenyn Sosa -.3 Hays -.3 Benintendi -.4 Quero -.4 Acuna -.5 I know Kelenic hasn't had the PA's of most of these guys but still needs to get some slug in his game or he's stuck in neutral not accruing WAR defensively or on the bases .
  11. The Sox will have a 5 game lead by then and won't need anyone.
  12. Pitching faltered a bit but our offense is death against RHP. Colson hits torpedos!
  13. Good drafft pick in the 5th round. He 's 23 so every level he advances he's more experienced until he gets to AAA so they could be fast tracking him a bit .
  14. Thry both had low pitch count innings yesterday. 10 for Dominguez and 7 for Hudson
  15. Thought he played the other night and did good, unless I was seeing the future again.
  16. Benintendi doesnt get within 8 feet of that flare.
  17. Not on a play that the catch is difficult to begin with. Some left fielders might not even get a glove on it. His dive was not graceful. The glove has to hit the ball before your body bounces on the ground.
  18. No chance Vargas gets more votes than Ramirez . Ramirez is an institution at 3rd.
  19. In any Sox fans life, dead or alive. Sox have the worst LH output in baseball history. Getting a lot more LH and emphasis on OBP was part of the Getz plan. That right there should tell you that even as Director of Player Development that he didnt have much input over who was drafted or he learned a lot very fast when he started surrounding himself with people smarter than himself. Its simple math when most pitchers are RH you should have a lot of LHH. Being overly RH with too many free swingers was part of the reason why the last rebuild failed .
  20. Sammy and the Pope being a White Sox fan is a great combination. Just to get you caught up if you missed it injured pitcher Mike Vasil (aka Batman) waves around a Harry Potter wand in the dugout. I can also lead you to some White Sox podcasts if you want to message me.
  21. Welcome. Everybody loves Sammy. He's tenacious which will no doubt lead to quick improvement in LF. He's the ideal leadoff man. Hope you enjoy your stay.
