I watched it a few times too . I paused it at the point of impact and looked at his head. He's got it down on that ball . Really nice to see a LH hitter go up there and crush a low inside fastball. He's got a good eye too. Now he just has to show he can get underneath a curve or take it oppo.

7/19- Twins at Sox Gm 1, 4:10

Yea I was questioning Yoan's thought process on his 1st AB with Tim on 2nd and no outs. He should be thinking get Tim to 3rd and pull the ball and look 1st pitch fast ball. He got one right down the middle but just looked at it. Then went down 0-2 and K'd. Some situations need you to be a hitter. Other's like Tim swinging 3-0 with a guy not finding the strike zone much ,should've been taking all the way. If he' manages to throw a strike ,which he didn't, then you can still look for a fat one on 3-1. -

Hey it's a step up. It used to be DFA everyone ! -
I think Soxtalk has talked about everyone under the sun There are a lot of 2nd basemen becoming free agents but the best fit is Escobar, 2nd best if we stick to lefties is Brad Miller. Big name out there the Sox go for would be unSox like. You're thinking a starting pitcher I would guess. I don't think any free agent would blow us away unless it was Scherzer maybe Castellanos if he tells the Reds he's opting out . Big names require big bullets and big money which I don't see the Sox having much of either after the Lynn extension.

Some notes on Joey Gallo from Ken Rosenthal
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is all true . I knew at least a week ago without Rosenthal from various other things I read that the Yanks and Pads would be front runners on Gallo if they chose to do so. I even mentioned both teams in some of my posts. That led me to look through the Padres top pitching prospects . Gore is their #1 and doubt they'd move him for Gallo . Would they give up Ryan Weathers ? That seems steep too. Padres have a lot of pitching prospects in their top 30 but hard to tell if any of them are that good. Would have to imagine Rangers would want at least 1 high level pitching prospect . Don't see them doing a quantity over quality thing. Deivi Garcia , Clarke Schmidt from the Yanks I guess are still in the top 100 just like Kopech and Crochet are. Kind of hard to know when there aren't a lot of updated top 100 lists out yet. Schmidt is injured and Garcia is very small and hardly pitched this year. Neither one have contributed anything to the Yankees like Kopech and Crochet have. There aren't a lot of impressive pitching prospects out there that are on contending teams farms. -

I think there is plenty of middle ground people here who are pretty much over the hiring and are more focused on the how the team has performed under him. Plus seeing some posters continue to stick pins in their voodoo dolls every chance they get in nearly every thread they can work it just riles up the people who rather just focus on the team. If TLR was really such a villain surely he'd be in jail or at the very least in Bauer-like limbo. I can imagine winning the World Series and the 1st words out of some peoples mouths will be about how TLR will get smashed again and the ensuing results will hopefully prevent him from managing again in 2023. -
https://www.mlb.com/news/carlos-rodon-following-degrom-blueprint @DoUEvenShift posted this recently at the end of a thread that has more or less run it's course . I borrowed it because it's a very good piece about Rodon. Here's a little sample: Highest run value for individual pitch types, 1st half of 2021 Carlos Rodón's 4-seamer: 22 runs prevented Kevin Gausman's splitter: 19 runs prevented Freddy Peralta's 4-seamer: 17 runs prevented Jacob deGrom's 4-seamer: 15 runs prevented (tie) deGrom's slider, Gausman's 4-seamer, Corbin Burnes' cutter, Adrian Houser's sinker and Trevor Bauer's 4-seamer: 14 runs prevented

If the Sox offered Lambert it would've been done already. There is some word going around that the deal was already done but Escobar had a little injury problem and our minor league relief pitcher who was going to be the piece traded needed a cortisone shot. Then after some digging by some here at Soxtalk I think that pitcher was Tyler Johnson. This has not been confirmed of course but it makes sense. The Sox won't need to give up a great prospect for 3 months of Escobar. Az. either trades him or keeps him and loses him to Free Agency next year. They want the best player they can get for him but a decent relief pitching prospect like Johnson sounds about right. We also don't know if there was any other piece involved.

7/18- Astros at White Sox, 1:10
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to flavum's topic in 2021 Season in Review
Yep once Abreu got to 3rd Engel's job was over. You just stop and get tagged. No need to go to 3rd. Well actually there is some reason to go to 3rd but he can't over run it like he did. He has to stay on 3rd with Abreu. Then Abreu is called out and the Engel gets the base and that's who you rather have on the base ,the faster runner. But to avoid confusion you just let yourself get tagged between the bases. -
Good work Sherlock . This is the most plausible guy. So who is our system is the most like Johnson to finish out this trade ?

Burger with the 321 wRC+ against RHP so far is very nice. A couple more big hits today and it starts to be very interesting if it isn't already. His strong suit was against LHP so would be great to see him pound Valdez who is a quality pitcher. -
Nice to see the HR's flying again and Gio get untracked. Doubtful Burger or Sheets will be around at all for the playoffs but imagine having that power on a consistent basis if Eloy returns to his former status as a hitter and Escobar is added. Then add in Robert if he can be the Robert we saw before his injury. Wouldn't even need his power but if we got it, look out. Expecting Grandal to amp up to his usual self might be a little more challenging given how late he may actually return but I'm looking forward to it all.

Lance Lynn locked up 2 years 38 mill + club option

He certainly does. He nailed it. I'd give him a whole box of cookies. I'd also like to pass out cookies to those who didn't like him as a person. Character matters, the Sox usually care about getting players who are high quality people. -

Night and day difference between last year and this year with him. Next year or even later this year could also improve now that he knows what he's doing more than last year. You piece it all together start by start. Some starts you falter some you advance. All part of the learning curve. But I'll take 3 runs in 5.2 innings with 10K's , every game he pitches. IDK what that translates to in ERA or FIP or XFIP or whatever but that's him doing his job. If he win's or loses that's up to how the rest of the team does their jobs. Remember you may want to categorize it as mental focus but that's too easy. It's physical also. It's getting in enough reps and repeating your mechanics until it becomes 2nd nature and even then one little thing can throw you off from game to game. -

Maybe. .500 is good for attendance in the near term to get people in the new stadium and familiar and comfortable with it but if that's all they want it can probably be done without Gallo. You don't need to spend big money on Kershaw or Story. I doubt the attendance increases much with native Texans on the roster. .500 is not a good place to be for the future of the team. Agreed that they are interesting but usually that means you'd like them not to be Colorado Rockies type interesting. -

The point is teams do always want starting pitching. It might be expensive crap starting pitching to you but a guy who can make all his starts and have a 4.00 ERA in the AL is quite useful to a lot of teams and they will trade prospects or a near MLB player for him. It's not unheard of. -

Crochet long shot. Cease super long shot or any starting pitcher currently in the rotation + Kopech super long shot. I would really be surprised.
