  1. This is what I've been saying for a while but we'll have to see if the prices remain the same. My guess is they won't. Guys who posters are talking about signing to 1 yr deals is unrealistic ,2 years might even be unrealistic for some of the 2 WAR types. All I keep hearing is we can't do that we have to keep spots open for our young guys . We can't block anyone. It's only 2 yrs into the rebuild. Don't be impatient . This what a rebuild is like. Money spent is wasted money . It's been my belief that we still need flippable assets and we have to spend money and take some chances if the end result can be getting some higher level minor league guys who have a chance to stick. If that means giving out a few 3 year deals so be it but I'm afraid $50M won't cut it. Starting pitching is always more expensive than we think. If that means taking some chances on guys who have an injury history so be it. There won't be enough bargains on the type of guys you probably want. We'll have to wait and see what happens. If the Escobar signing is any example we might have to hit the market early instead of waiting for bargains on the leftovers.
  2. A bunch really ? I read everything on here and I can't recall anyone thinking he was , maybe some said it facetiously .
  3. So Red Sox up 3 games to 1 now . Machado stepped on Pearce's heal at 1st on his ground out in the 9th. Wonder if he kicked or stepped on anybody during the season.
  4. I'm not suggesting anything major,, just a dew veterans that can be signed for 1- 3 years who have a chance to put up decent numbers in either the first or 2nd year or the contract that will make them flippable. I don't know who they might be . Escobar got 3/21M. A few contracts in that range sounds doable to me. I doubt they'd lead to many extra wins.Hahn always seems to do his best work getting relievers . Find 1 or 2 relievers one starter and one position player on 1 to 3 yr contracts . 4 guys increase the odds of at least one of them getting flipped without being much of a financial burden, In the unlikely event all 4 do well and we start winning too much its ok because we flip them and the team craters again but maybe we get some AAA talent that can be used in the new competitive window whenever it may start.
  5. Game 2 close. Price threw a ton of change ups to stifle the 'Stros his last start, 43%. Guess who he is giving credit to for learning the change up. None other than James Shields.
  6. I think the questions we and the Sox FO has to ask our/themselves is ; 1. When it comes to top end young FA talent will there be such a thing as a long term contract anymore ? 2. If all the top talent has to have opt outs does that make guys like Eovaldi, Brantley (2nd level FA's) more likely to sign longer contracts (3+ years) ? Every time I read anything about signing someone all I see is posters saying 1 or 2 years. Sure if you are going after bounce back types like Pomeranz its doable for a year or 2. If the new reality is free agency is getting more tricky then it might be a good idea to sign some FA's with the intention of flipping them even if it means giving out 2-4 year contracts. We have to face the facts that this team isn't going to just come together all in one year where the prospects come up and shine. Right now we need more good AAA guys and instead of waiting for it for another 2-3 years the Sox may have to make it happen . I really don't think we are going to miss the Delmonico's Cordell's Davidson's on the roster currently in favor of guys who could bounce back like a Donaldson or Pomeranz . Have to take some chances while we still can We are going to be vastly disappointed by casting this wide prospect net over our system where they all become above average major league players right when we want them to. This past year should have opened some eyes to what can happen to prospects.
  7. By top level I assume you mean Charlotte and not the White Sox. Even if you pare OF's from Charlotte who is ready for AAA without it being considered rushing them ?
  8. Don't want to debate it but there are times that bunting is a good strategy to avoid a DP late in a game where only 1 run could mean victory. Of course then the opposing manager could walk the bases loaded but still I'll take the man on third with 1 out when it's the potential winning run and maybe even the tying run too.
  9. When I saw how slight he is the first thought was he might be sick or even be a half brother. and the Sox are doing this is a goodwill gesture, Of course if I'm right, which I actually hope I'm not, a "goodwill gesture " could be seen as a ploy to stay on Eloy's good side and the money has to be used any way or else they lose it. If he's honestly a legit prospect I suspect we'd have heard more about him.
  10. Toronto has a few guys who could play 3rd in Kevin Smith and Cavan Biggio. Those aren't their primary positions but they have seen action there.
  11. Someone is going to be traded this off season. Maybe minor leaguer for minor leaguer . Relieve the log jam to boost other positions. Might seem a bit early for it since so many of our OF's need more seasoning but Hahn did mention he'd consider it.
  12. Eovaldi is a hot commodity right now . He's got great stuff even after 2 Tommy Johns. After Corbin he might be the best starting pitching name out there. He might even get a better contract than Corbin if he pitches a gem in the WS, Not sure how the 2 TJ's will affect his market but my guess right now before the WS is he'll get at at least 3 yrs. and $55M and 4/75 w/ a very good WS. If I had to make a guess on the Sox without having any idea what direction they are moving this off season I'd say Drew Pomeranz is more their speed.
  13. Some times it's not so simple. Now I would agree Moncada takes a lot of called 3rd strikes. Some times a pitcher just aces you. Sometimes you guess fastball and get a curve. Sometimes you look location away and they come in etc etc which would account for many K's to a lot of hitters. Just like many things Moncada has to take baby steps when it comes to eliminating a few K's from his resume. Choking up a little would seem to be the simplest thing. 2nd thing would be if you look location such as away look for pitches above the knees . Up and away are good pitches to drive the opposite way or at least foul off. Choke up and be protective of a zone . If you can eliminate even a small percentage of your K's looking it's good progress.
  14. Sorry. He was the 1st guy I researched and took the first info I saw on baseball reference and didn't notice the 2nd part of it. After that I saw several who had been drafted before but didn't sign but it never occurred to me I missed it on Cole.
  15. Has he always played fast and loose with the facts like he has been lately ? Seems like deliberately falsifying facts to fit his narrative. Seems odds for him.
  16. I had something to add but I lost my focus...nevermind.
  17. Noticing Keith not hesitating to shoot as much as he did last year and much better presence in front of the net offensively.( team not Keith)
  18. That trade shakes confidence in Bowman. If Saad has trouble getting motivated seems like something that would get around and due diligence would've caught.
