  1. QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2017 -> 08:06 AM) If Avi makes the all star game I'm changing Aviously to my screen name. I like Aviary Garcia more because he can fly with the Feathered Serpent.
  2. QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 7, 2017 -> 06:41 AM) Most good teams don't care since their core starters are good enough to face any pitcher. They probably rotate 1 position on L/R situations. Maybe someone can remove the other thread of the same name. Come on people ,maintenance !
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 12:32 AM) The two walks are more significant. But Jared Weaver's not exactly a flamethrower. Supposedly, the weight gain (and lifting) in recent years was adversely affecting his bat speed. We'll see. Sounds like Avi.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 4, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) I was going to say that it does make sense. Fans, media love the new shiny toy. Yep Trevor Story was the rookie flavor of the early season last year. Add to it that it's the Yankees and voila media sensation. I hate the Yankees even more now that they just pull 2 rookie power hitters out of their butts with Sanchez last year and now Judge .
  5. Indians bullpen has given up like 1 earned run in the last 44 innings.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ May 8, 2017 -> 10:51 AM) I get that 18 inning games are rare, but when I woke up and looked at my feed it was a bunch of national/local media acting like this was the first extra innings game in history. Ha well you know Cubs and Yankees are probably 2 hottest teams in the media so there's that.
  7. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 7, 2017 -> 09:12 AM) Don't forget 25 year-old Avisail Garcia. That's like, 30 combined future all-star appearances from an outfield. Ridiculous. Made me laugh.
  8. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ May 7, 2017 -> 05:57 PM) I thought this thread would be blowing up today with the Bruce Levine report that a trade is likely with Nationals? Thoughts? I don't see anything written about it so if he said it on his show without writing about it not many people hear it and he most likely was repeating something he said before. If he had anything solid or new he would be writing about it.
  9. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 6, 2017 -> 07:04 PM) I suspect that when (or if) Rodon returns...or when (or if) Shields returns, Covey will be released / demoted something that gets him off the big league roster. The guy simply isn't any good. Now that I think about it Bob Dylan is probably a better pitcher then Dylan Covey. How about Dylan Axelrod ?
  10. If I could merge the beer thread with the game thread when Derek Holland pitches what would I get ? Anyone remember Grolsch Beer ? Don't know if it still exists but it's slogan used to be " Nothing Less than Hollands Best".
  11. There's a Garcia on the list so there's hope the Sox can land someone since they seem to be collecting Garcia's.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2017 -> 06:13 PM) Putnam hasn't been able to stay healthy, and he doesn't have dominant stuff (on the radar gun), so those two factors weigh down his value, along with being RH. Petricka was just another guy. Not being able to dump Shields' contract off on someone hurts mostly in a financial sense. Otoh, Holland and Miguel Gonzalez are intriguing options, and obviously David Robertson. Hopefully Frazier can get his average back in the 240's or 250's, he could bring a nice piece back depending on other 3B on the market, Cabrera will end up mostly a salary dump. In the end, they really need Rodon to come out of this healthy by the time 2019 rolls around, whatever's wrong with him. Anderson needs to look much more dangerous than his bottom 5% OPS would indicate. As for the next few months, even if Jones can't come back, they've still got Swarzak and Kahnle that are increasingly intriguing, not to mention Burdi lurking in AAA. It's not like they have to worry so much about service time with him either, White Sox closers never make it into arbritration years. Going to be at least a month or 1 1/2 months till teams start looking for pieces. Q/ Robertson and pending FA's might be the priority but anyone expecting 5 or more trades will probably be disappointed. After all you need starting pitching to finish the season and bullpen pitchers also. Just have to wait to see who is healthy and who else decides to sell. I don't know how many sellable pieces the Sox will have then , probably more than half the 25 man roster to varying degrees.
  13. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 3, 2017 -> 10:36 AM) Cubs rotation is kind of scary. Arrieta - Has been great but is a FA. Lester - Just 2 QS in 6 outings. More walks, less swings and misses. Lackey - Now the 5th oldest player in the league. Hendricks - Doubling the walks, doubling the homers and a .227 BABIP has aided him to a 4.18 ERA. Smoke and mirrors up. Anderson - Hasn't gotten hurt yet but he sucks now. On the farm, they have Eddie Butler and Williams Perez backing them up. Pierce Johnson is a reliever now. UUUUUUUUGly. Pretty much what I brought up in one of the Quintana threads about how Q would fit in with the Cubs before the season started especially with the extended playoff run.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2017 -> 05:23 PM) Great win. 5-2 versus KC? That's crazy good. Davidson has hit some towering home runs this season and hit one today. Avi has been stellar and was today. I'll give Holland credit. I despised his signing but so far he's been very admirable. I still say this is proving how bad Robin was. If only we had Renteria earlier we might have won the division a couple years at least of the Robin era. It's nice to see the Sox score runs once in a while unlike the Robin era. Sox have scored a lot of runs for instance in their wins over KC this season. It's not an automatic horrible game this season with the bats. Sox still suck offensively on most nights but they also break out on some nights. I don't know about winning the division but the biggest mistake Sox management made while "going for ir" besides the half hearted effort of going for it was not firing Ventura.
  15. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 3, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) Regarding his defense, he may actually have improved. In both 2016 and 2017 his UZR and DRS numbers are both positive, and in this Fangraphs article about the new Statcast defensive data he was the 4th most improved outfielder defensively from 2015 to 2016. Obviously a pretty small sample size, but at the very least I think it's fair to say he's no longer a disaster out there. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/examining-t...-probabilities/ I'm glad someone else noticed the defensive improvement last year. I think earlier in the spring I had said he had improved but since Eaton was out there most of the time it was hard to tell but the DSR or dWar was positive if I remember right. The statcast data on 1-5 star ratings was also encouraging to me although I've seen it misinterpreted .
  16. Anyone know the longest stretch so far this year when Avi hasn't got a hit ? I'm going to guess like 5 official AB's. He's been very consistent .
  17. QUOTE (Scoots @ May 4, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) Nice to come home from work to see the boys split it. 15-12. Tied for first in the division. Now on to Baltimore. Definitely a tougher team to face, and with Covey and Pelfrey pitching, not too overly optimistic, but definitely optimistic. Baltimore has lost 2 in a row, so there's that. Will be interesting to see how the Sox play against a "good" team outside of the division. Holland looked good. Swarzak extended his 0 ERA. Mr. K had no K's but no runs either. Avi 2 more hits and 2 RBI. Abreu and Davidson with jacks. Davidson 2/3 with a walk. Even Kodiashii had a key hit that drove in 2.
  18. Very nice outing by Holland going 6.2 with 1 earned run .
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) 452 feet on the Davidson homer. I've seen the live play and 2 replays and still can't find the ball.
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 4, 2017 -> 06:08 AM) There really isn't that type of surgery anymore. With all of the advanced imaging, they usually have a pretty good idea of what's going on. It's usually the extant of the damage that isn't known prior to surgery. If they really thought this was an option he wouldn't be throwing at all. However, as I've said from the beginning this case is so odd that anything is possible. I've don't recall a team being so conservative with all of these "reported" injuries, especially this team with Herm running the training staff. So you think it's a lat issue. Most reports have said bicep bursitis . Could he have both or one led to the other ?
