Bobby Knight resigns as Texas Tech Head Coach

More info here. -
The MLB assigns "slot values" to each draft pick, which are guidelines for how much of a signing bonus should be given to that pick. If a team wants to give out a bonus above the slot they have to contact the Commissioner's office, but they're hardly ever stopped from doing it. So, for example, if the slot value for pick 8 was 1.5 million, and the Sox want to offer that player 1.8 million, they'd have to petition the league office.

As of today, do you think the White Sox are legitimate AL contenders

QUOTE(TLAK @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 08:00 AM) The phrase was from Warren Harding. You're right. I couldn't remember which it was, and for some reason I was thinking Wilson died in office and Harding took over, but I was wrong. Harding died in office, though. Now back to your originally scheduled programming. -

Not really, but if they do it wouldn't really surprise me. I think a lot of people forget that many players had subpar years last year. With the additions, plus, to borrow a phrase from Woodrow Wilson, "A return to normalcy," I'll think we'll be better than most people think. That said, the Tigers and Indians are definitely better. I think our lack of a true leadoff hitter and an untested back-end of the rotation will hurt us. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 10:10 PM) Rumor that Eric Gordon's out for the year with a broken wrist. Maybe then he'll come back for a second season. -

That game was awful. Couldn't rebound, couldn't shoot, couldn't do anything. I thought the Illinois would be our lowpoint for the year, but I was wrong, this game is. -
I just saw Breach. Not too bad, pretty much what I expected. On a side note, does Dennis Haysbert show up in every movie or TV show that pertains to the government?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) Aside from the obvious... Red Lodge, MT Kalispell, MT Jackson, WY Cardwell, MT I've heard of Kalispell for some reason. Are they well known for something?

QUOTE(SnB @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) When I saw the commericals, I thought this was the worst idea for a show since temptation island. Trash. My thoughts exactly. Only from Fox.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 08:24 PM) I have three questions for you about St. Louis. What BBQ place did you eat at? What did you do here that you liked? What do you like about the Rams? Never mind question 3, I thought you said you liked the sports teams. I ate at a few. Blueberry Hill was pretty good, I honestly can't remember the names of the others. There is this market area just off of Delmar (right by Fitz's) that has a fantastic barbecue place in it, I forget the name of it, though.

Here you go, Heads: GO CLONES! Man, I despise Kansas. -
I visited Minneapolis recently, and absolutely loved it. I like Chicago, but whenever I go downtown, it's a nice place, but I don't feel too comfortable there. Minneapolis was just fantastic, though, and I loved it. St. Louis is a nice city, they really like their sports teams and have great BBQ, but it's way too humid in the summer. Cities I'd love to go to: San Diego New York LA Seattle Austin Dallas Houston Philadelphia Boston Great Falls Billings London Berlin Amsterdam Copenhagen

Very sad news. Prayers go out to his family. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) When I heard Renfro died, I didn't think twice about it. It was almost something you'd expect to happen. Where have I been? I didn't even know Brad Renfro died. He was pretty good in Tom and Huck.

That would make 3 high schools in 3 years. I was surprised he didn't play at Loyola last year, instead of North Shore Country Day. -
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) I think the difference between myself and someone who actually has OCD is that I can realize what I'm doing and stop. That's pretty much the key difference. I feel everyone has some elements of OCD, and some have it worse than others, but most are able to control it. Those who can't have OCD. I think the actual definition has to do with it negatively affecting your life.

I'd agree with Greasy -- the feeling on campus is that Illinois has pretty much become a rivalry game. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 13, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) As I said that post was somewhat in jest as a lot of players complain a ton about officiating and Gordon was whining a ton after he got called for a foul 25 ft from the basket. Pruitt is as bad as they come as he was pouting throughout the game today. I do complain a lot about officials during Illinois games, this is the only game this year I thought they negatively affected the outcome for us. We may not have won anyways but there were some embarrassing bad calls today. The ball was clearly off IU with 50 seconds left and they give it to IU. At the very least since they had no idea who it was off of that needs to be a jump ball (not sure who would have gotten the ball). Ratliff basically punching Brock in the face and not getting an intentional foul. MEacham literally not touching Ratliff and getting called for a foul and then on the rebound of a miss from the FT line an Illinois player gets pushed to the floor with no call. I'm sure we got calls as well over the course of the game, but nothing like those. I also complain about officiating across the board, not just in games involving Illinois. Big 10 officials flat out suck at their jobs. I know it not an easy sport to officiate but there is no consistency and refs are constantly making calls when out of position. There have been games over the last couple of years where I thought Illinois was helped by the officials, and I still say the officiating sucked. Xavier game from the UC immediately comes to mind. I'll admit that that out of bounds call was horrible (clearly went off an IU player's leg, I think it was D.J.), but you can't say there weren't a ton of calls that went the Illini's way as well. As to the chanting of "Shut up Weber:" Classless? Maybe. But, as has been pointed out, it's the same thing you'd see at any other arena in the nation. All in all, Illinois played better than I expected, and IU played possibly the worst they have all season. -
So, the live video of Born to Run to run is, plain and simple, awesome.
