Sawx @ Sox 8-10
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) Exactly. At that point, you are playing for 1 run against the Red Sox in the 5th inning. Giving up outs against the Red Sox is idiotic. In what way were we playing for 1 run? We moved the SECOND man into scoring position, and as an added bonus even a flyout was a run, for our 3/4/5 hitters who normally come up big in those situations.

Bunting with two on and no out is never the wrong choice.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) No, we took the bat out of the hands of our best player by bunting. You wouldn't see the Cardinals doing that in front of Pujols. They didn't hit him on purpose. They wanted to pitch to him, there is just as much danger batting behind him. In real baseball, you just rarely put somebody on voluntarily, particularly down two runs.

Sawx @ Sox 8-10
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) AJP shouldn't be hitting in the 2nd spot of the order then. You can't play for one run like this against Boston when you have a terrible bullpen. We were playing for 2 runs. 2 hitters bunt, especially with 2 on and none out. That is the epitome of a bunt situation. Moving two men instead of one into scoring position for your 3, 4, and 5 hitters is absolutely the textbook thing to do.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) Of course he does....haven't you seen that commerical?? I was hoping Aardsma would botch it so Hawk could say, "It's amazing what a bunt can do!"

In games that pitchers never allow runs to score in the half inning following their own team's score, you win 70% of the time.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 12:57 PM) Gavin's finding his release now. For as bad as he's pitched, I have to say this...Lowell's homer might be the cheapest I've seen this season. Better read by CQ and we're ahead. He made some bad pitches, but was never hit hard enough to deserve 3 runs.

Short on answers
A common theme on WS teams is unlikely heroes, people playing over their heads. You could say the Sox have had some of them already, I think we need another soon to cap off our run to the playoffs.

It's Broadway and Getz
There is no guarantee that Broadway will be horrid at the ML level. We have all seen guys pitch mediocre in AAA and come up to the majors and really do the job. Sometimes it's almost like it's boredom or something in AAA, or perhaps some guys just really respond to the added pressure. Everyone knows that our bullpen is a weakness, we just made it even weaker.

50 FAVORITE WHITE SOX PLAYERS
I'm pretty surprised he is on this list.

QUOTE (Baines3 @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 10:58 PM) I'm starting to think that Griffey was damaged good when we got him. The term general soreness is what makes me think that. Heck I'm sure every player on the team has general soreness at some point in the season and plays through it. For all we know, Ozzie asked Griff how he was feeling today and he said I'm a little sore and Oz sat him against his wishes.

Sox acquire Horacio Ramirez from KC
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) I wonder if Josh has played his last game as a Sox. Doesn't seem like anybody that matters is high on him anymore. It's time for Chris Getz to get a shot I suppose. Can Brad Eldred play third?

QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) I do the exact same thing and get made fun of for it. Crayons=Crans, Greg=Graig, Egg=Aig, Leg=Laig, Keg=Kaig, etc. Isn't that the right way to say those words?

What kind of stuff does Ramirez have?

Who would you give up for another RH reliever?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 11:46 PM) Well, I think Jerry Owens would have a 50/50 chance of making it through, due to his results this season and his advanced age. I was thinking this as well, there probably wouldn't be much interest.

Decapitated and ATE him?
QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) Tell you what Jake, if you and I are ever in that situation, you go ahead and try to grab the guy with the big knife and while he swings around and sinks the blade through your eye socket and deep into your brain, I'll be setting the world record for 200 meters. I'm telling you, just take 5 guys and he won't hit anybody. Soon as he would try to get one guy he would leave an opening for another guy to grab his knife arm and it would be all over there.

And that's a White Sox Winner!
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) I don't think the Red Sox choked....the Devil Rays are winning this division. You can't take anything away from what they've accomplished so far this season. No, the RAYS are winning the division.

Carmines vs. Sox 7:11 CT CSN
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 04:30 PM) I love him, but cheap is something he won't be. It makes absolutely zero sense Philadelphia would pay more money if 3 seasons after the trade, the White Sox loved his play so much they picked up his option. It makes no sense that the better a player you trade away plays, the more you have to pay. The thing is, we're not going to pick it up. He's going to play enough that we have no choice in the matter, and you can't say the Sox picked it up when we simply put him in the lineup.
