QUOTE (BuehrleTheAce @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) I wouldn't mind making it a brand new keeper league. I've never done a keeper league before and it sounds really interesting and exciting. Saturday or Sunday works for me. 4pm EDT is good either day. After 8pm EDT Sunday also works for me. Sunday night would work for me, too. Friday/Saturday's would be rough for me to make the draft. Weekdays after 4 works for me, too (but preferably before 9 since i work an early shift). And keeper league is cool with me.

QUOTE (GREEDY @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) I signed up and noticed I was 11. If you want to go with 10 just let me know and I'll drop out. Otherwise, you are all going to lose Ok, i'm now the 12th member. I apologize for jumping in without awaiting a response to my earlier post, but i didn't want o miss out on being in a SoxTalk league. I can also drop out if you guys want only 10 teams. Making it a keeper league is cool with me; how many would we keep?

I'd make the trade. You're getting a stud starter in return. Like you said yourself, your OF is pretty good, even without Vlad. Plus i personally prefer Lopez over Kendrick. Go for it.

QUOTE (BuehrleTheAce @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 09:47 AM) I'm concerned that League 4 is going to die due to lack of interest so I created a team in league 2. I'm The Acesses. Up to 10 teams now! I'm also in league 4 and fear it's not going to fill up by draft day. Can I jump into league 2??

Who would you rather see at the plate?

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 11:27 PM) Bottom of the 9th. Bases loaded. Sox down one and season on the line. Who would be most clutch? I know the following story involved a video game, but i thought fellow Sox fans would love it. Last week, i was playing MLB 09 The Show. Best of 7 Rivalry, I was the Sox and my friend (Rob) the Cubs. We were in game 6, and i had the series lead 3-2. Bottom of the 9th inning, 2 outs, Cubs leading 5-4. With 2 guys on, i had Jerry Owens up, and he was facing Marmol. I told Rob, "well this should be good, we're going to Game 7", when, wouldn't you know it, Owens pulls a Joe Carter, and hits a walk off, series ending homer. Highly unrealistic in real life, yet still highly entertaining. -
QUOTE (The Critic @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) HA No, that's one of the ones that cancel out the other ones. And what part of "kind of" and "sort of" don't you get? For the record, the less offensive Nickelback songs are Never Again and Animals. I don't have them on my iPod, but if I happen to hear them it takes a little longer to change the station. The song "Leader of Men" off of their early cds is pretty good. Maybe because it's their only song that doesn't repeat the first verse later in the song?? Aside from that, i'm not a fan at all. A brand new Nickleback song can be playing, and without ever hearing it before, you can sing along, either because of their repeating first verses, or because it's just so easy to figure out their rhyming pattern.

Manny is officially back on the Dodgers Per ESPN After months of back-and-forth negotiations, a meeting Wednesday between Manny Ramirez, his agents and Los Angeles Dodgers management has culminated in a deal for the slugger. Ramirez and the Dodgers have agreed in principal on a two-year, $45 million contract, pending a physical. The outfielder, his agents Scott Boras and Mike Fiore, and Dodgers owner Frank McCourt and general manager Ned Colletti met in Los Angeles to finalize the deal.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) Does anyone miss the MVP series and the fact that if you had a perfect swing, it was a well hit ball and sometimes a homer? Why do games think we need a button for contact and a button for power? I hate the power/contact buttons, too, and just wish the swing plus the batters ratings determined how well the ball was hit.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) Ill mod the league 4 this year. The draft time slots are filling up fast, and I'm still interested in playing a Soxtalk league this year. Jimbo mentioned he would return as League 4 Commsih, but i haven't seen the email invite (unless i'm not wanted, that is). Any word on that, Jimbo?

My favorite character was Sawyer when he was a badass and used to make all his smart allelic remarks. Since that's changed in the past few seasons, i'd probably say Locke is my current favorite. However, Ben is the best character.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) It wouldn't be "year round" in the sense that you would work a normal 9-5 schedule. The commonly talked about system is three months on, with one month off. The amount of days in the school year would actually not change. I see, that's where I was misinformed. I can still see where teacher and students would gripe about it, though.

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 28, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) Yeah, it will suck only doing 3 lesson plans a week as opposed to 5 and finishing the school year on May 15. Correct me if I'm wrong, but what you are proposing is not the same as what the Education Chief mentioned in that article. What I do know is that teachers work their asses off (at least the one's I know do). My girlfriend basically spends 7:30 am to 4 pm each day at school, and even longer if there are meetings or tutoring. She also has to spend hours at home grading tests/quizzes/homework, getting report cards done, setting up meetings with parents, and various other things i never even thought of before i dated a teacher. And she puts in numerous hours on the weekend planning for the next week's lesson plans. She is truly exhausted by time the work week is over. It's not easy being a teacher, especially when kids do not want to learn. I'm sure some teachers have it easier, whether because they've been doing it longer or at a better school where kids actually do want to achieve good grades and strive to set themselves up for high school or college. She enjoys teaching, she loves it when students "get it" and it's great to see student's minds grow. But she busts her butt for 9 months of the year to achieve those things. She looks forward to her 3 months of rest. Taking that away would make her question if she would continue to be a teacher, because all the stress would kill her if it were year round.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 07:34 AM) In this day and age, that contract is untouchable unless the Jays coughed up at least 50 million dollars. That is one UGGGGLY contract. yikes.

My girlfriend is a middle school math teacher. She said that if this change happens, she will find a new profession.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 07:06 AM) What a sad day for Bulls fans. No kidding. I listen to ESPN 1000 when I sleep, and I semi-consciously heard about Red Kerr passing away, but thought it was only a dream. Then my sister told me this morning. RIP Red.

A co-worker of mine, Satish, just told me a pretty cool story about Van Lier: Back in the mid 90's, Satish had a job downtown. While at lunch one day, he saw a sign "donate money to United Way and get an autograph from Norm Van Lier". So Satish donated some money, and when it was his turn in line to get an autograph, this was the convo: Van Lier: "Who am I signing this to?" Satish: "To Satish" VL: "Sa what? What does that mean in your country?" Satish: "Smooth, Common" VL: "Smooth! I'm gonna sign it to Smooth!" The autograph said "To Smooth, from the Storm" Satish only had a 1 minute convo with Van Lier, and he said he was just the nicest guy. I heard the same thing on the Score this morning. RIP Van Lier, you will be missed.
