  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) Somebody made him an avatar already: LOL that's awesome. When we got to the game on Saturday, we had about 10 different people come up to him to say how they saw him on the news the night before. Unfortunately, the news had shown him while he was sleeping in the late innings of the Friday game. However, he was a big hit. People of all ages were taking photos with him, a few people bought him beer, and he was even rocking out with the band that plays outside the stadium after each game. He goes by Carlos Cluckin or the South Side Chicken. Become the South Side Chicken's friend on Facebook, and upload any photos you take with him. He will be at the Saturday game in Cincinnati, too.
  2. My buddy will be wearing a chicken costume with a Quentin jersey on. Not sure which game. If you see him, come on by and share a beer with us.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 10:42 AM) Well the rotation is all jacked up right now, but based on this week's rotation it would be: Friday: Richard (is he still in the rotation??) vs. Suppan Saturday: Contreras vs. Parra Sunday: Buehrle vs. Looper The good news is Gallardo is pitching today so we miss him. That is not a stellar rotation on their end either. P.S. taillgating should be awesome. if you see a large group of sox fans blasting some wilson phillips and go west, that would be us! Remember, tailgating begins 3 hours before game time, which is technically a full hour more than Sox games (although i know you can sometimes start earlier at Sox games).
  4. I'll be at all three games. can't wait to tailgate and bust out the bags
  5. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 08:18 AM) You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but I wasn't aware that it's not the player's choice. I remember the uproar over Fisk choosing Boston over Chicago. No problem. From Wikipedia:
  6. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 08:01 AM) He should go in as a White Sox just to piss off all those Indian fans that boo him. How do you boo Jim Thome? Except that it's not longer the players choice on what jersey he wears into the Hall, after the Wade Boggs situation.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:51 PM) The Magic shot 62.5 percent from the field (won't happen again), Kobe missed 5 free throws (won't happen again), and the Magic still only won by 4 at home. I'm still not buying that this is an actual series, but I give the Magic credit for pulling out a win tonight. I heard on the Score this morning that the 62.5% FG% is the new high for a Finals game, surpassing the Bulls from the 91 season.
  8. Wow, I guess I've reached 'that age'. While browsing the "2010 and Beyond" potential Hall of Fame class, I notice how I can recall seeing every single one of those players play. Yea, i'm sure it's probably been that way for the past few years, but this is the first time I've noticed how well I know the entire list. Craziness
  9. So are we guessing Beckham will be #6? Or did they announce something yet?
  10. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 09:47 AM) boy I tell ya...what a breath of fresh air this game thread is.....quite possibly the greatest game thread ever created. Awesome, already off to a great start.
  11. Hopefully I can bring good luck to the Sox on my first Gamethread! Come on Clayton, keep up the great work. I'll be at the game, section 134
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 08:30 AM) Its sad. The industry destroyed itself. They had a great niche, but they tried to move into the adult sector and turn it into a business by flooding it with all of those "premium" cards. Eventually that was the death of the industry. They lost a whole generation of kids because it became to expensive and too confusing. When it was 3-5 brands, it was pretty easy. After that, it became ridiculous. Exactly. I used to always buy Topps, Score, Donruss or Fleer because they were half the price of Upper Deck. Then all of a sudden, there were so many more 'premium' brands that cost more than Upper Deck with less cards per pack. Since i was a kid, and had a very limited income, it didnt make sense to buy Upper Deck or other premium cards. Eventually i switched to basketball cards when Shaq was a rookie, as it seemed like a better chance to get the good cards since there were less teams and players in the league. Of course, even basketball fell victim to overpriced packages, and I just stopped collecting; it was a sad moment.
  13. I saw this article linked from Deadspin. Pretty interesting stuff that reminds me of my childhood.
  14. Clint Hurdle....HE GONE. first manager to get fired this season.
  15. The Score just reported that Rich Harden was placed on the DL with back pain. 7th time since 05 that he's been DL'ed
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 22, 2009 -> 03:33 AM) So the dog had surgery to repair ligament damage in his knee today...he tore his ACL for sure, and there was some calcification that had occurred at the end of one of the ligaments. I've understood that this a Labrador degenerative condition, so that almost certainly confirms that he has some Lab in him (you can quite clearly tell he is mostly Border Collie, but I always thought he was much to broad to be just that). Anyways, it's just a terrible sight to see. You can tell he is just agonizing in pain. Seeing an animal--and especially a dog--in pain just breaks my heart. Does he have to wear some sort of cast?
  17. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) Wow, thanks for breaking this.
  18. From last nights Mets-Dodgers game: Funny
  19. Wayman Tisdale lost his battle with cancer; only 44 years old. ESPN link
  20. QUOTE (shipps @ May 7, 2009 -> 07:30 AM) I agree with every word. Mostly the part about trading Beckham for Wakefield...that would be a fantastic move...I bet he is great during the day time. Plus, Wakefield could probably pitch for another 10 years. Kenny could build a staff around him.
  21. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ May 5, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) Now I understand it, his mom is f'ed up. That's why she named her kid "Joba". I was curious to why his name was Joba, so I checked it out on Wikipedia. Turns out it was his cousin who came up with the name, and his Dad liked it, stole it, and ran with it:
  22. Last week, my brother went to the Sox doubleheader vs the Mariners. At the end of an inning, Brian Anderson throws the ball to the fans. My brother realized that he was within reach, so he gets up, and attempts to go for the ball. However, his efforts where thwarted by his friend Mike's outstretched legs, who wasn't paying attention to the game, but instead, texting on his phone.
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 4, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) That was one of the scariest collisions i've seen. Yea, that was scary. Luckily, Rotoworld is reporting he's doing ok: "X-rays and a CT scan on Rick Ankiel's head revealed no fractures as a result of Monday's collision with the wall in center field. "He was never knocked out," GM John Mozeliak said. "He never lost consciousness. My understanding was that he had some discomfort in the face area, obviously, from hitting the wall. But for the most part right now, we're encouraged based on Dr. Paletta's first [evaluation], just getting to see him on the field." No word yet on whether Ankiel will land on the DL. Colby Rasmus figures to start in center field for at least the next few days. May. 5 - 1:59 am et"
