  1. Braves also sign Japanese starting pitcher Kenshin Kawakami http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3829404
  2. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) Right I've decided to trade my Wii in for $$$ since I don't play it that often anymore, and I'm not likely to take it home. How much would I get for it at Gamespot? I never traded my games into Gamestop (i think that's what you meant, correct me if i'm wrong) because the trade-in values were so low. Maybe you should first try to sell it on eBay; I believe people are still willing to pay over retail price on the Wii. Or you can try Craigslist, too.
  3. Brian Fuentes signed a two year deal with the Angles.
  4. And DeRosa traded to the Indians... Sources: DeRosa headed to Indians ESPN.com news services Mark DeRosa, who had been rumored to be a part of three- and four-team scenarios in the Jake Peavy trade is finally headed out of Chicago -- but not in a trade for the San Diego Padres' ace. DeRosa has been traded to the Cleveland Indians for three players, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. DeRosa hit 21 home runs and drove in 87 runs for the Cubs last season, appearing in 149 games. He played 97 games at second base.
  5. Vegas Sportsbooks Super Bowl odds, per ESPN Favorites: Giants 2-1 odds Titans 4-1 Longshots: Cardinals 40-1 Dolphins 30-1 "Before the season, the two teams that opened with the longest odds to win the Super Bowl were the Dolphins (250-1) and the Falcons (200-1). Now they're both in the playoffs. The two preseason favorites -- the New England Patriots (2-1) and Dallas Cowboys (7-1) -- failed to reach the playoffs."
  6. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 09:19 AM) Decent move for the Phillies. Being in that bandbox will lessen the importance of his defense. So now the Phillies 3-4-5 hitters will all be lefty?
  7. In order to get the deal completed, ESPN the Magazine's Buster Olney reports that the Yankees added a seventh year to their original six-year, $140-million offer, bringing the total package to seven years and $160 million -- by far the biggest contract for any pitcher in history.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 04:54 PM) Edgar Renteria is closing in on a 2 year deal with the Giants. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3742641 It's official, Renteria signs with Giants
  9. I believe Peavy has a no trade clause, but has listed 5 teams he would accept a trade to, with the Sox not being one of them. Plus i recall reading that if he gets traded, he prefers to stay in the NL because he likes to hit.
  10. Per ESPN Pujols beats out Howard for NL MVP award Associated Press NEW YORK -- St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols has won his second National League Most Valuable Player award. Pujols won by a comfortable margin over Philadelphia Phillies slugger Ryan Howard. Milwaukee's Ryan Braun was third and Los Angeles outfielder Manny Ramirez came in fourth after playing just two months with the Dodgers. Pujols hit .357 with 37 home runs and 116 RBIs despite playing much of the season with a sore right elbow. The Cardinals finished fourth in the NL Central. Pujols got 18 of the 32 first-place votes. He also won the award in 2005.
  11. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) It would be helpful to understand how you defined "top"? Over their career? Last season? Last couple three seasons? Their best play for a week or two? How you predict they will play next season? In what order baseball GMs would want them on their team? It looks like this was based off just this past season. There's a lot about your list I don't agree with, but the two most shocking ones are Ryan Ludwick and David Wright. Ludwick is waaaay too high; the guy is 30 years old and produced one great season, mainly because he hits behind Pujols. And why is Wright so low? I don't see how he's not in the top 5; he' a stud with the bat, can steal bases, and plays Gold Glove D. He is arguably the best 3rd baseman in baseball because he can do it all.
  12. This commercial drives me nuts. Of course, a friend constantly sings it because he knows how much i hate it.
  13. ESPN Link NEW YORK -- Cliff Lee is a runaway winner for the American League Cy Young Award, capping a dominant comeback season that made him the second consecutive Cleveland Indians lefty to earn the honor. Demoted to the minors last year, Lee went a major league-best 22-3 this season with a 2.54 ERA. He received 24 of 28 first-place votes and 132 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America announced Thursday. Toronto ace Roy Halladay finished second with four first-place votes and 71 points. Lee became the third Indians pitcher to win the award, following Hall of Famer Gaylord Perry in 1972 and CC Sabathia last year.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) My dog is being put to sleep back home as we speak. It sucks. I'm very sorry to hear this. And i know how painful and sad it can be. We had to put down our Miniature American Eskimo in March. He was 13. He had his issues: diabetic (received a daily shot), hip problems, cataracts. But he fought through those things. He was normally a really big eater, and when he went nearly three days without eating anything at all, we all feared the worst. The vet did all he could; gave him a vitamin shot among a few other shots. But after that didn't help, xrays and test were taken, and the vet determined his liver shut down and surgery may be performed, but he could not guarantee anything. That day, my younger sister had to make the toughest decision of her life. But she didn't want him suffering anymore. I drove home from work that day reliving the memories. R Kelly's "I believe I can Fly" came on my iPod, and that song will forever bring a tear to my eye and make me think of my dog Snoball Animals are truly amazing; you may never know how much love they can bring to you and your family until you have one. And as time goes by, they become so much more than a pet; they become part of your family. RIP Snoball, you are missed.
  15. ....................and the game has now been pushed to Wednesday night. Longest 6th inning ever...
  16. Congrats to Mike Singletary for getting his first stab at a Head Coaching job in the NFL. Best of luck Samurai Mike!
  17. I wouldn't mind seeing either team win the series, but my guess is Phillies in 6
  18. ok, now that the game is about to start...i'm nervous.
  19. I'll be the oddball, and take Uribe. Prove me right now, Juany.
  20. Rays 1. Iwamura 2b 2. Upton CF 3. Pena 1b 4. Longoria 3b 5. Crawford LF 6. Floyd DH 7. Navarro C 8. Gross RF 9. Bartlett SS
  21. My favorite moment...the guy behind me screaming out "That was a Hot Carl Banana!" when a Twin's player struck out in the 7th inning. Does anyone know what that means? I have no idea, but i'm going to be using it the rest of this postseason, lol. My real top six: 6. The JR/AJ double play (this is really when my section starting going nuts) 5. Thome's homer 4. The double play in the top of the 8th 3. Kubel's 9th inning strikeout 2. Span's groundout 1. Brian's game ending catch Basically, section 100 got louder, crazier, and jumpier (i know it's not a real word) a bit more as each one of those situations played out. I nearly fell over the seats twice when Brian made the final out just from being so hyped, high-fiving, and celebrating with my friends and the fans in my section. And i didn't even have an ounce of beer, so it was just plain excitement.
  22. Relaxed right now. But i'm sure that will change as we get closer to game time.
