Bears To Target Randle El
I love it when I see a thread title and go to page nine and its like six degrees of separation from its origin

A Philly-Mets fight for Contreras?
I'm leery of getting a bullpen guyy and thinking he could make 30 starts if need be. People here, and I'm not kidding, were thinking Dustin Hermanson would set-up and then come in and start if need be. I think Heilman's in a different category since he hasn't relieved as much and has started more but I think there is no guarantee that Madson can be stretched out and expected to make starts for a full season. Smoltz did it because he had a whole offseason to prerpare for it

Oh Frank, Please Quiet Down
Anyone else fial to see where Frank "trashed" Thome? Seems that buzzowrd that is goign around doesn't really accurately reflect what Frank said. Frank said that he is better than Thome which may or may not be true but its not like he dogged him

Oh Frank, Please Quiet Down
Seeing how Kenny WIlliams disliked Frank so much, it doesn't surprise me that he didn't issue THomas a courtesy call

Carlos Martinez
I was told it was cancer a few years ago. That doesn't make it so but thats what I was told

GQ's most hated athlete
QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) Finally, some national recognition for the Sox. GQ's list of the top ten most hated athletes in sports. Top 10: 1, Terrell Owens; 2, Barry Bonds; 3, auto racing's Kurt Busch; 4, Curt Schilling; 5, Kobe Bryant; 6, Fisherman Michael Iaconelli; 7, basketball's Bonzi Wells; 8, golf's Phil Mickelson; 9, baseball's A.J. Pierzynski; 10, tennis' Lleyton Hewitt. A pro fisherman, Michael Iaconelli, ranked sixth on GQ magazine's list of 10 most hated athletes — but it wasn't for lack of trying to be like the No. 1 guy, banished Eagles receiver Terrell Owens. "When he catches one, you've got the fist pumps, the running around the boat, the lying flat on the boat. He'll stare at the fish, yell at it, point at it. He'll shake his finger at it." Not surprised at all AJ made the list. I think its by vote by peers. The Booyah story from teh ALCS a few years ago makes this no surprise

Desmond Clark named to Pro Bowl
Yeah I would have picked Alex Smith of TB before Clark. What's with Urlacher pulling out? Thats lame-o

scary, very scary
this is the most boring sports time of the year. At least the day after the ASG gives you a chance to rest for 24 hours and watch a movie or something non-sports related. Two weeks of this crap before the SB with nothing going on in baseball and College/Pro hoops in a fairly meanignless time of year leaves a whole lot of down time.....

Carlos Martinez
He played first I believe at my first Sox game. I had heard he was sick by a guy who travels to venezuela to get autographs of players. Sad news

Actor Chris Penn Dead at 43
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) Unfortunate news, however if you look at his physical appearance over the years it was obvious something was wrong. yeah he had gained a ton of wait. Pretty good actor too, underrated. Exceptional in RD

What an idiot!
I'm a diehard Denver fan and would wear my Elway jersey if we were playing the Jaguars or the Bears all the same. It wouldn't make a difference to me. I would expect to hear a lot of trash talking, that would be fine. What happened to the kid was pretty bad though.

scary, very scary
I remember this stupid argument last aug/september when Buehrle was struggling. Then we put this crap to bed when he had a great postseason. Guess its back. ugh

Artest NOT NOT Traded
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) I'm in the same boat. I just hope to hell he gets dealt so I can have him down the stretch. The second the trade deadline passes, the second I waive is ass. I refuse to do it till than though cause he's too valuable. I know. His steals alone are worth so much. I can't believe its taken so long for this to get moving. Maybe Maggette will heal soon enough fo make a trade there

Artest NOT NOT Traded
And my fantasy team still waits for the return of Ron Artest.......Uh. He's far too good for me to drop yet he remains on my active roster. Yuck

Cubs sign Wade Miller
Good signing although I think he's probably kaput given that two teams gave up on him in spite of his ability so those injury concerns are just too much too ignore. Good flier though

Official NFL General Discussion Thread
QUOTE(soxhawks @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) who's gonna get the raiders job? the new rumor per pfw is Rick Neuheisel. Recall that the Turner hiring was a bit of a headscratcher so this would fit with Big Al's recent past
-
Abreu rumor
Abreu is a terrific player but are the K's a concern? Not his alonebecause he's so special at the plate but when you combine his with Thome's and a few other guys we have, wouldn't we be in danger of being the Phillies/Cubs/Even us from a few years ago?

Official NFL General Discussion Thread
I think Seattle did prove beyond doubt (well at least to non-Bears fans) that they are the best team in the NFC and would have beaten any team the conference had to offer at home tonight. Great performance, the defense had to impress you

Official NFL General Discussion Thread
I feel pukey. Oh well. We have two first round picks and made it a few steps closer this year so I feel confident that if we can overcome a tough schedule that we can get one more shot at a title. As for the Bills fan, I think Jauron was a very good hire

Red Sox trade for Coco Crisp
Isn't sizemore considered a darn good CF? I thought he had really good range. Am i off here?

Red Sox trade for Coco Crisp
What a great day to be Tribe fan. Losing Betancourt would be hurt but if they could let Rhodes go (i don't know if he'll maintian the success of 05) it would hurt less. Andy marte for Coco Crisp? Seems like a steal to me. Mota is a great pickup too. I don't like Michaels too much but if you cna get an Andy Marte, you do it. Alex Gonzalez and Coco Crisp. I think Boston won't win 90

Carmen and Silvy to get the Ax?
I think J Hood just sounds weird on 1000. He was a D teamer at the Score so it'd be strange to have him in a good slot on 1000. He's ok for late night or another insignificant time but I think he'd get eaten alive in a competitve timeslot.

Contreras Talks Dry Up
I do have some concerns about Jose will handle pitching in a walk year. I don't think he is mentally weak as evidenced by his postseason and the way he handled being separated from his family but some guys (Renteria springs to mind) have trouble handling this particular sort of pressure. Especially now since we won the World Series (it doesn't get old saying that) players will likely be focusing on their finances even more so

The plot thickens
Just another thing to think about, everyone forgets the initial reaction to the Pistons brawl was of sympathy to the players and villified the fans (the NBA Shootaround crew was the only ones workign who could over it). Then Steven Jackson and Ben Wallace sort of got off the hook a bit in public opinion and it became the "Ron Artest incident" and the fans actually got off the hook a bit too. Just goes to show that a story can really change int he days and weeks to follow

angelo's dinner with t.o.
Age for receivers is pretty meaningless if you look at the success that Galloway, Keenan McCardell, Rod Smith and then Rice and Tim Brown of yesteryear have had. I'd say TO can put up elite numbers for anotehr 5 years if he got his act together
