QUOTE (rangercal @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 03:52 AM) Is it a coincidence that one of the biggest party animals has a birthday that lies on one of the biggest party days? I think not. I fully expect you to give your boss the finger, take the day off and head over to mardis gras. Happy Birthday Steve! When you consider that Mardi Gras can fall anywhere between February 3 and March 9 and that it has to be on a Tuesday, it really is quite a coincidence that it happens to be his birthday. It is likely the first time his birthday has actually fallen on Fat Tuesday. Oh yeah, Happy Birthday to Steve.

Yo La Tengo or Uncle Tupelo

And Ed Farmer picks up the save.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 07:07 PM) What I don't understand is if a baseball player uses steroids he's marked for life and many are just shunned. If you get caught juicing in the NFL, its a 4 week vacation, and then back to normal. Well it is 1/4 of their season. What is the baseball penalty, 50 games?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) I like em, but they are not buffalo wings to me. I dont think breading is part of a true wing, but they are pretty tasty nonetheless. I'm pretty sure you can order them "naked" or without the breading. My favorite all-time wings are from Tres Hombres in Carbondale.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 17, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) Radomski and McNamee. They got reduced sentences by naming names and realizing that the guys using the stuff in baseball were bigger scum than they were. You think they talked for the good of the game?

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) So I'm pretty sure I've made more enemies in this last week than I have the rest of my life combined. I'm on quite a roll On a totally unrelated note, I'm going to Mardi Gras in New Orleans this weekend. I think I'm going to have a good time. St. Louis has a fairly large Mardi Gras celebration. I hope it is warm this weekend.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 17, 2009 -> 07:19 AM) Or the Dodgers could just wait til the deadline passes, get their guy and give up nothing. I think we determined that would have to be after the draft takes place. -
QUOTE (retro1983hat @ Feb 15, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) Last week they played the Randy Johnson 20 K game vs. CWS. I watched the entire game just to listen to Hawk and Wimpy once again together. Hawk ushered Wimpy out of the booth. Let's see what happens this year when Stoney, who has an ego equal or bigger than Hawk's, disagrees with Hawk. He struck out 20 against the Reds, not the White Sox.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Feb 12, 2009 -> 08:20 AM) Have a great time, and fly the colors proudly....unless they're Blues colors, that is... Do they still play in what used to be called the Savvis Center? I had a fun time there a few years back - that's not a bad place to see a game at all! Yeah, Steve is right same place different name. I never had cable growing up, so I never watched hockey as a kid and therefore am not a Hawks fan. Not a fan of the Blues either though. I have been to a handful of games and I really only enjoy it in person. I will have to wear Sox or Bears gear to represent. -
Can't believe they are going through so much trouble for a handful of misdemeanor charges. Is smoking pot even illegal? I mean I know possession and distribution are, but if you smoke it does that mean that you must possess it? And how many people can be charged with possession of one piece of paraphernalia? I guess they need to get those criminals into custody where they pose no threat to society.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 01:28 AM) You've never heard of Polar Bear? Every year Pinch opens up the beer garden in the first weekend of February and sells nothing but Coronas. Cali's is a bar right down from Pinch. No, I mostly went to bars on the strip. Is Cali's that place that has the ladder on rollers behind the bar?

They replayed Floyd's near no hitter. The second one. I missed it

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) I can give the lowdown (times and drink amounts are approximations): 12:00- Dorm: 6 shots of Admiral Nelson 12:45- House party: 4 cups of Killians Red ---Gus is buzzing. We decide to go to Old Town on the way to the bar.--- 2:00- Walk to Pinch from College St.: 2 Mad Dogs ---Get to Pinch. They wont let us drink in line to get into Polar Bear.--- 3:30- Creekside: 3 Mad Dogs ---f*** it. I'm drunk.--- 5:00- Lentz: s***ty Mexican food. 5:30- Dorm: 4 shots of Admiral Nelson 6:00- Cali's: 4 pitchers split between the 3 of us. 8:00- Polar Bear: I tried to pay my cover with Gumby's $'s. I had way too much to drink here. ~1:00- Dorm: Chillout tent. What is Polar Bear & Cali's?

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 05:55 PM) Signed my lease today. Whooo. It seems like an odd time to sign a lease in Carbondale. Where are you living?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) How is being realistic considered bashing? Crede is not All-Star or GG caliber (anymore for GG). Joe Crede's career numbers are .257 .306 .447. He has under an .800 OPS. Im not sure how you could possibly think he is an All Star. His BEST year was .283 .323 .506. This was now 3 seasons ago. Lets see if his numbers prove that you are correct and he should be considered All Star caliber, and I dont consider him even being on the team in 2008 a good choice. 2008 All Star 3B A-rod: .302 .392 .573 Guillen: .286 .376 .436 Longoria: .272 .343 .531 2007 A-rod: .314 .422 .645 Lowell: .324 .378 .501 Joe Crede 2008:.248 .314 .460 2007: .216 .258 .317 2005: .252 .303 .454 I like Joe Crede as much as anyone and appreciate what he did for the White Sox, but thinking that somehow he is a star is not realistic. And there is nothing disloyal about knowing the actual facts. Could be because he made the All-Star team last season?

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 07:57 AM) His HBO contract was over when Inside the NFL ended there and moved to Showtime. He hosted the Larsen perfect game episode day 1 of the channel. According to this, he did not join MLB network until Feb. 3, 2008.

Official 2008-2009 NFL Offseason Thread
Leonard Zelig replied to knightni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) IF by next season you mean "2010", the answer is down to Caleb Hanie. Orton has 1 year left on his contract. Therefore, the Bears need to make some sort of QB move this offseason just to assure that they have a warm body to play that position in 2010. Thanks. I meant the season that begins in six months. Should I have said this season?
