QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) Jimenez/Cease > Glasgow/Newman all day, every day. Patience payed off. Yes. And I would have been okay with Glasgow Newman return. So happy with this. I think I would have put Q acquiring Jimenez (let alone their top pitching prospect) from the cubs as maybe the most unlikely of all of the acquisitions, maybe just above someone like Robles. Even with the fit with the cubs, I'm shocked.

At the very least, would take Jimenez over Rutherford 10x over (though statements like this ... certainly could come back)

Deserves to pitch in playoffs. I'm sad, but reality was for me as soon as it was clear he needed to be traded it was hard to enjoy his performances. Was too aware of how important every start was to sit back and watch.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 12:52 PM) I can definitely see this. I can see him being a better hitter, Moncada better player.

QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) We got their #1 (Jimenez) and #4 (Cease) prospects for a mediocre pitcher. Plus we got two throw in players. As a Sox fan I LOVE this trade! We really gonna do the "actually q is bad" gloating?
-
I would have thought Vlad Jr would be #1 for him. We Eloy is going to be SOOO fun to follow.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) Where was Cease? Probably unlikely to be in his top 50. Maybe his top 100.
-
Guys our #11 overall pick isn't even in our top ten right now. We had like 10 straight years where the latest first round pick was always #1

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Hahn asked Theo in middle of the first inning Sunday whether they still wanted starting pitching Holy lols

The Houston #Astros were involved in talks for Quintana, but never came close to offering the package the #Cubs offered to the #Whitesox --Nightengale SO glad to be done pining for the Astros to like what we had. Hope they fail now (even though i like so much of what theyve done)

I can't get over one thing, and it's kind of bitter sweet fortune but it is fortune: There are a bunch of teams on the precipice of tear down rebuilds in Blue Jays/Giants/Tigers/Pirates and Royals. Not this year but next 2 years. We obviously had some special, signed pieces BUT We were offloading with the best pieces at a time when we were the ONLY team doing it, and during a time where the top contenders also had the top farms (due to their rebuild). Those contenders have basically exhausted their top guys, all to the white sox. The tigers/etc are going to have to offload with the next group of rising teams which happen to be much more mid-market. They may be more like Pirates, who will be stuck in needing to consistently fill their MLB team with cheap talent, and can't rely on big budgets for their holes. We struck at a really, really good time. Let's hope it panned out!
-
Cubs not needing to offload any of their current 25 roster talent is a win for them. They are back in LatAm game where they performed well. Longterm I'd take Jimenez over happ, but they are getting quintana for next 2 years (at least) for their championship window.

also just want to mention I think Brewers are better off not making this trade. But it had to be tempting trying to steal a year from the cubs like this. Best of luck to them, that org is awesome to follow right now.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 11:17 AM) Even if Cease turns out to be a reliever because of the injury risk, I still like the trade. 98-100 with a breaking ball compared to Dwight freaking Gooden?!?! Yea you can put that in the pen. Get all the power arms we can. I feel fairly confident we can squeeze lots of value out of pitchers like Adams/Stephens/Guerrero/Dunning than other orgs.

Remember how little power we had in our system through 2016? Read this and weep http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-23-pros...s-chicago-cubs/

I honestly wouldn't have been disappointed with most packages, I'm blown the f*** away by this. I did not take seriously the cubs doing this. Jimenez, along with Robles and Torres (and probably Meadows), had become one of my favorite prospects to read about for the silly reasons any of these guys do when we were researching any under the sun. WHen you read these prospect chats, you can tell the guys that do well and are well liked, and the ones that intrigue and fascinate. Kopech intrigues and fascinates. Moncada intrigues and fascinates. Jimenez intrigues and fascinates. Jimenez has 70 grade power. People were gushing over watching him and vlad jr. I'm so excited to be able to follow him. I didn't have the nerve to hold onto Q in the winter. We got a better haul than I thought possible. I really thought if we got JImenez that we'd get worse than Cease. To get both? Totally fine with lesser on the 3/4. If we got worse than cease I'd want some more projectable flyers.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 06:56 AM) http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&page=2_30 How many recent (last 18 month) top prospects, other than Judge, have lived up to their billing? Aaron Altherr was on nobody's radar. Chris Taylor? Schebler? Where the heck did those two come from? Maybe only Bellinger, Conforto, Sano, Trea Turner (injured), Inciarte...#26-30 on first page screen. Lesson, the Yankees and Dodgers know what they're doing? Be more careful with the Astros' prospects? The Reds know how to spot catchers/position prospects?? Yeah I think this is decent. As the recent SSS podcast pointed out, the best player in the brewers CC sabathia trade from CLE was a PTBNL in Michael Brantley. We may not get a on its face great trade but it may end up as a good one. I will say that there was a very large graduation of top prospects last 2 years like Correa, Lindor etc that have been great, the top tens since have been fairly young and may still prove themselves.

QUOTE (OklahomaBrave @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 09:49 PM) I saw Enscheffs posts, he is a regular at talking chop where I post. And I posted here frequently all offseason, and started reading here daily again about a week or so ago. Side note, I like your board! Homerism is present for all fans of all teams of course, but I feel as though you have a really reasonable well informed fan base. I don't really agree that the Braves follow the surplus value model Enscheff presented, so I don't personally agree with that reasoning, although his logic is sound and well presented. I said back in the offseason I didn't think the Braves would trade Acuna or Maitan. I think that is more true now than it was this offseason. I think they would trade any pitcher, and even though the Whitesox have great young pitchers, they could use a top shelf lefty. Allard is our best pitching prospect, but I think he could be had. I believe he's better, and held in higher regard than Newcomb, even though the later is in our rotation. I do think they would trade Albies. I know Ensheff doesn't like him, but Austin Riley is a legit prospect and could be trade fodder as well. He has real plus power and many scouts are enthused about his improving body and defensive work. He also has a cannon. He's probably in the 120-150 range for many listers. People with sources I've talked to seem to think we'd prefer to trade Allard to Soroka, which I disagree with, but whatever. I'd be surprised if they gave up both Allard AND Albies since they are both too 25ish guys. For those mentioning Pache, if he were the third piece, be psyched. Wait until Longerhans at FG's list is published, he LOVES Pache, and I believe him to be the best public evaluator. I'd hate to lose Pache, but I believe they'd include him. The Braves will trade anyone from depth. We have a ton of pitching and a good amount of MI. Our outfield depth is ok enough we can lose Pache. Totally with you on longenhagen. I like Callis but everyone on pipeline is a 45 or better. Eric seems to be much more realistic and when he beats to his own drum he explains it well.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 06:14 PM) The trade was completely stupid but the legend of Jordan Bell is pretty crazy already. It just totally reminds me of when the bulls gave away JR Smith for basically nothing because of 'fit'. It's not like, aww many we drafted this guy over that guy, Jordan Bell for bulls fans will be competing against nothing. Any value he has is value we lost. Hope he's awesome. Hope Garpax are fired. Goes hand n hand. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 06:04 PM) Mentioned Braves as interested in Q and then talked about Duffy and Kennedy being on Cubs radar I just can't see KC selling. I wouldn't if I was them either.
