2009: A Big Step To Our Next World Series
K, but, I mean it was his rookie year. You won't allow any adjustment period for this kid?

One other thing to like about the Peavy trade
He's a nice change in attitude. I'd love to see him and danks go back to back in the rotation. They both have that look that "I want to dominate you". Buerhle is more of a "haha, I'm smarter than you" while Floyd is like "Check out my pitcher face, do you believe it?" These are pure aesthetic observations in how I watch the game, have little to do with performance. More of a cinematic approach to pitching.

2009: A Big Step To Our Next World Series
Unless we can find a clear upgrade that fits into our lineup well (top of the order guy) I'm fine with the platoon at 2nd. It's our outfield/1b/DH I want KW to figure out.

The Democrat Thread
The thing is, no Zumaya is an idiot as president. Yes, he overstepped his bounds. Yes, he should have been removed, but AFTER a trial. This is so 80s republicans to merely support the overthrowal of a leftist president no matter. I like that we are respecting the reactions of the other countries around them and am in favor of our policy on Honduras so far. Americans enacting a more facilitative, patriarchal approach to SA as it grows as opposed to dominating will improve relations so much more and lead to some really positive benefits. Really tired of the only coverage of south america being CHAVEZ + LEFTIST LEADERS ARE DOMINATING THE REGION. Chavez is not that powerful, he's not intimidating/dominating other countries, he's in cahoots with Ecuador, they seem to be pals, but thats it. Colombia seriously doesn't seem to have a problem dealing with them, Brazil doesn't either. Chile/Uraguay are, once again, completely not influenced by Chavez. But I guess they are leftist gov'ts therefore Kill.

So, nfl.com isn't working for me concerning highlights. Are there any other places I can watch bears highlights from yesterday?

2009: A Big Step To Our Next World Series
QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) No, it's not. Did you even look at Getz's minor league numbers? OBP of .401 in rookie ball, OBP of .382 in AA in 2007, and an OBP of .366 in Charlotte last year. Just what I was about to write. He improved his OBP by 60 points in AA from 2006 to 2007. Dropped to .362 in AAA. There's reason for hope that at the same level his OBP would improve next year. Obviously from AA to AAA control improves. Same for majors.

Tony Blair to be first EU President?
Haha, so I think it's fair to say we don't take the EU seriously/don't care.

2009: A Big Step To Our Next World Series
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) The question for me isn't if he could help in 2010, it is would he help more in 2010 right away, than he would help in later 2010 through 2016 with some more development under his belt. If you are talking about a guy like Carlos Torres who doesn't have a high ceiling it is one thing, but a guy who could make a large impact as a starter is another story. You take a special level of care and work for a guy like that. I agree. Who knows how his arm will respond to this year, and if he has to learn how to work through that, better it be at AAA

THink I'll talk about the Brazil league's in here. Corinthians is the team I root for because my sister-in-law's brother gave me a jersey. They are not very popular. All my roommatesa re Sao Paolo fans. Corinthians has Ronaldo. Curitiba seems okay as well. I'll get back to you all .

I don't know if Quentin gets a pass for his injury because I don't know if we'll ever be able to rely on Carlos Quentin the way we could, say, Dye for 05-08. Yeah, he got up to 20 hrs. But his average and lack of RBIs really worried me. I'm not sure I'm confident he should be relied on as a major piece to our future.

trading buehrle
QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 03:11 AM) i admit there rotation would be very good but in todays game a good bullpen and good hitting is needed to win . i mean the sox this year had more quility starts then any team in the american league and were under 500 so the rotation wasnt really the problem this year and with or without buehrle wont be the problem next year . You should keep your strengths a strength, we don't REALLY have anyone knocking at the door and considering how our 4/5 performed this year, seeing an awesome 4 is something you should keep. If we had a few arms to try out/the market was fine for backend starters I might try it. But great starting pitching can mask a lot of the other deficiencies.

2016 Olympics
So now that I've had some time to digest this, some thoughts: It sucks. 2. I'm really happy Rio got it over Madrid. Tokyo is a pretty cool city and they could've shown off a lot. Rio is a beautiful city. However, I'm really kind of scared/apprehensive about how they are going to take care of the crime rate. We talk about Atlanta shipping the poor to new mexico, well, Rio has many many more poor people and a damn near militaristic drug trade. It already has a reputation for being a high-theft area for tourists, already a high murder rate. So, I worry what they'll do. BUT, the good news is perhaps these upgrades to infrastructure, and money can help bring more and more business and that money can be used to educate the favelas and provide some chance of mobility. Either way, Rio is kind of a gamble where stuff could go wrong.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (vandy125 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 08:29 PM) Insurance companies favor reform as well, just not the type that will end their business. What would you spend for the survival of your industry or on something that heavily involves you? Would you just sit on the sidelines and watch? Well, no s***. The reform so far is forcing millions to enter their business as customers.

Tony Blair to be first EU President?
Weird, didn't know they were setting up this position. Is this a true head (at the top) or does it still go through that harry-potter esque council?

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 08:04 PM) He's just being honest. Anyone who is not a lawyer who can read that bone-dry legalese and actually comprehend it on their own is lying. There's a reason they have staffers. The problem with this "create a bill that a 6th grader can read and understand" is it could/WOULD be overly vague and that would lead to unconstitutional rulings, likely. The more leeway you leave in unspecific language, the more chance it has of being abused. Which i guess is the irony of people saying they are using CRAZY language to push things through people don't understand.

We really need to focus on LEGAL immigration reform as well. It's ridiculous right now. No reason it should've been as hard for my sister-in-law to stay in the US.

2016 Olympics
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 06:07 PM) Welcome to the 2016 games in Rio! Don't wander into the favelas or you will die. Enjoy your stay! Well hopefully this will do that city a whole bunch of GOOD. Brazil could be a powerful ally for the US with their huge oil stockpile found and amt of US businesses heading there. It's a bunch of great people, beautiful scenery. But I'm worried about what they plan on doing to quiet down the favelas. Perhaps paying off the drug lords to sit quiet would be effective. No, not joking.
