I obviously don't know if this is true but from my perspective it seems the embarrassment of the Thanksgiving game being National and the all the National analysts talking about how embarrassing it was definitely helped get Flus out the door. When you’re the Ravens or Eagles(and to a lesser extent the packers) and are loaded everywhere then grabbing up an elite rb can definitely be a top priority. When you’re the Bears and have numerous holes on the lines and you need to protect your franchise qb then drafting a rb in the 1st rd is just a bad idea.
