Official 2010-2011 NCAA Football Thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) The fact that Illinois (a lower tier Big 10 team) was able to compete with an upper tier MWC team actually proves the point most in this thread have been making. Fresno is considered one of the harder games a team like Boise or Nevada plays. Those teams should not be losing to Illinois at home, Illinois only won 1 true road game in the Big 10 at Penn state. It just shows an average to below average Big 10 team is about as good as an above average MWC team. Fresno finished 5-3 in the WAC where as Illinois finished 4-4 in the Big 10, so what your saying here just really isn't true.

White Sox Sign Dunn
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 12:02 AM) People have the right to their own opinions (no matter how ridiculous), and there ARE flaws in Dunn's game, as there are with almost every player. He expressed his, but it got destroyed because he didn't back it up with any factual information. If he backs it up with solid, sound reasoning, it might make sense. --- People say opinions can't be wrong but his is wrong, period.

The way the computer is set up at my dads, I can't see the TV but I just turned it on so I can listen to Gus in the background, awesome.

White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves
Albert Pujols' ball in the 2005 NLCS is still the hardest hit ball in the history of life. Just saying.

Catch All Anything Thread
So to add to the fun cop stories that people have been sharing, last night I was the DD and I get pulled over on the way home. The cop smells the booze on my friends, makes me step out of the car and take the field sobriety test which I obviously pass. He runs my license and what not and when he comes back to my car he asks me "You're probably wondering why I pulled you over now" I told him I was and he goes "It's because when you passed me on Lake Cook, you gave me The Look," I literally had to hold in my laughter when he told me that. Fantastic.

Ron Santo has passed away.
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) I think he's hated mostly by a generation who never saw him play but only know him as the "homer" announcer that he was on the radio. Sure, as a Sox fan I "hated" him as a Cub and later I took delight whenever I heard him groan "Ooooooh Noooooo" during a broadcast but I'm truly saddened by his death. Not even that he was a homer, he was just a god awful announcer. That being said, he was always entertaining and it certainly sounds like he was a great human and that's what matters most. RIP Ron.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) Dont you want to go RLR in the middle of the lineup? Quentin at 6? ICK! (Sorry, I'm very anti-CQ) And I can see the Alexei / Gordo switch, makes sense. Either way you're going to have back to back righties somewhere 3-6 and PK has pretty much never batted 3rd for us and I see no reason for that to change. And yes, CQ can be frustrating at times(a lot of the time) but at this point he's still our best hitter outside the 3-5 if we're assuming Konerko is back. EDIT: Thinking about it a little more, Q is actually a better hitter than Rios as well

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) C- Pierzynski 1B - TBD (Konerko? / Viciedo) 2B - Beckham SS - Ramirez 3B - Morel / Viciedo LF - Pierre CF - Rios RF - Quentin (please no!) DH - Dunn Oh think of this.... 1- Pierre 2- Beckham 3 - Konerko 4 - Dunn 5 - Rios 6 - Ramirez 7 - Pierzynski 8 - Quentin 9 - Morel / Viciedo Pauly wont bat 3rd and Quentin would be your 6 hitter in that lineup. I'd also think that Alexei would start in the 2 hole with Gordo down in the order.

2006 offseason/2011 offseason comparisons
I have to wait until a first basemen is actually signed to begin to compare. I wont believe the Pauly speculation until it's a done deal.

White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) Putz is going to come back, too. Ever heard of a "bromance?" Because that's him and Thornton. In fact, this Linebrink move might be the move Kenny needed to make to bring JJ back. Imagine Kenny at his press conference today announcing AJ coming back, Dunn signing, the Linebrink trade, and an agreement with Putz. Kenny's like superman. You're starting to assume way too much, man.

And there ya go, that's AJ's 4 mill for this season. Unreal!

White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) Sorry, i'm elated at the direction of this team to the point where a lot of this stuff is flying past me. Haha, it's not a problem, just funny. You've been on both sides of it now!

White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 12:47 PM) I assume you mean Viciedo. Teahen for Bell has about as real a chance as me making my major league debut this year. People's sarcasm detectors need to be fixed today.

White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) Jon Morosi jonmorosi Jon Morosi #Braves receive cash in the Linebrink trade. Not sure how much yet. 1 minute ago Ya, no shock there.

White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) Yeah major brain fart on Santos. I intentionally excluded Sale. Ya, I figured both. It certainly appears that KW is going for it all this season and if he is, that's most likely going to include Chris in the pen.

White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:34 PM) I'll be curious as to what our bullpen situation looks like this year. Right now, we have: Closer - Thornton Set-Up - ?? MR - ?? MR - ?? MR- ?? LR - ?? D.J. Carrasco was non-tendered yesterday. Bring him back? Santos for sure and I'd say there's about a 95 percent shot that Sale is going to be in there as well.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) Marquez had an impact? No and that's his point.

White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves
Ya, there's just no way that ATL is taking on that whole contract, right? I just can't see that. Still, it should free up some money and bye bye Liney! KW on a roll!

Lee or Konerko?
Besides the fact that D.Lee is one whole year older, everything else is in his favor. He's got a higher career ops, much better defender, better athlete and will make much less money on this upcoming contract and once again, this is a real easy decision imo. The fact that Derrek had a bad first half of last season while battling some injuries doesn't change that fact.

White Sox Sign Dunn
Yeesh. JR is either raising payroll a lot or Kenny is about to get "creative."

Bobby Jenks
Sorry to call you out jphat but your posts at the beginning of this thread now look quite comical given what has happened today. Anyways, thanks for everything Bobby but bye!

Lee or Konerko?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 11:20 PM) Do you think up to this point that the Sox have had more conversation with Konerko or DLee? I feel like this is some sort of trick question.
-
Nobody is talking about this
QUOTE (Real @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) Inverted W + Limited IP in his college career + Small frame + high 90's FB = blown UCL before August? The risk of an injury for him has been talked about a ton actually and at this point he's still more likely to be in the bullpen than the rotation.

Pierzynski Back; 2 years, $8 million
QUOTE (pktmotion @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) One has to wonder if they considered Buehrle's strong report with AJ while re-signing him. Because of this I'm less inclined to believe he's the one to get traded. I have a feeling it's going to be between Quentin/Jackson/Floyd(who I can see packaged with a salary dump; i.e Teahen) a dark horse trade candidate, IMO, could be Rios; if one of the big spenders comes up short on Werth/Crawford. Well, considering the only other decent catcher out there is Miguel Olivo and he's had the reputation of not handling pitchers well, I guarantee that AJ's game calling was a huge part in bringing him back.

Lee or Konerko?
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) Didn't KW say something about how he wanted to deal with PK first and then A.J.? If that's the case, shouldn't the A.J. signing mean that the PK ship has kind of sailed? Did KW actually say that or was that just speculated by some columnist?
