QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 06:09 AM) Manny Ramirez is a douche bag. He loafed this season with the Red Sox who have only paid him about $120 million. It was so bad, his TEAMMATES told management he needs to go. He gets "motivated" playing for a new contract, and suddenly he's a better player than ARod? Please. Barry Bonds was awful in the post season until later in his career. Frank Thomas has had 2 post season series where he failed to get a hit. It happens. ARod is a superior player. Manny could have been right up there with him, but he was the one who chose not to. He is pretty awesome when he wants to be, but that isn't everyday. He even took a couple of Septembers off with the Red Sox with mystery injuries. God help whichever team opens the bank for him this winter. He's also one of the best right handed hitters of all time.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) He doesn't have the curve anymore because he throws the cutter more. Steve Stone talks about this a lot. When you go to one kind of a breaking pitch (cutter isn't a breaking pitch, but it has a slider-like movement), it's very hard to master another. Gavin and Javy are two pitchers who can throw both a curve ball and a slider at the same time effectively. However, most pitchers can only throw one consistently. In HS, Garland had a great curve. After he got to the Majors, he used the slider alot more and the curve gradually went away. The same transformation has happened to Danks. You rarely see him throw a curve when he pitches now, let alone get it over. Apparently you didnt read the article above. It states he didnt have the curve BEFORE he learned the cutter, when in actuality his curve was his out pitch all through the minors. It was a plus pitch.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) Outside of an upper echelon closer, what do they really have that could make that team better right now? And do you think Sonnanstine could nab that? For example, would you do Jenks for Sonnanstine straight up? I don't think I would. I'd give em Dotel....... -

QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) TO was the first guy to call Roy Williams after the trade. TO was described to be "ecstatic". So, I won't be too quick to judge on their chemistry. Oh thats got nothing to do with Chemistry. TO wants every throw, every down. Roy Williams wants every throw to be perfect to him at all times. Check out his b****ing on the sidelines 2 weeks ago when throws were offline by a foot or two. Its their personalities, not their chemistry. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 10:24 PM) Dallas was having enough trouble keeping everybody happy, getting Roy Williams will make it even more difficult. Combine that with the fact they really overpaid and this move has disaster written all over it. T.O. and Roy Williams can't and won't co-exist long term. Roy Williams showed during their game with the Bears that he is a total and complete asshole. His behavior on the sidelines was unbelieveable. That team has some serious personalities in that locker room. Him and TO will be arguing over passes constantly. -
JJ Hardy, and Beltre should be two top targets of KW. And everyone should get the name Baldelli out of their heads. The guy can only play 3 games a week max.

Uh what? Wasnt Danks voted having the best curve in the texas system before we got him? What are they talking about his lack of a curve?

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 07:51 AM) wh... wh... wha... WHAT!? that was like... my whole plan. damn. I dont understand how those tools can come across to people as believeable "pickup artists." I guess if you wear goggles on your head around the clock people will think women like you?

Dont watch the pickup artist on VH1.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) I still think the pilot was the best episode ("The Gang Gets Racist"). I just started watching it this season and the first few were so good that I had to rent the others. A great show that I didn't think I'd like at all. People told me DeVito made the show, but he's actually me least favorite character. I think Charlie and Mac are the best, but the interactions between all of them are what sets this show apart. The gang dances their asses off, and Dayman were 2 of the best.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 07:30 AM) I know. I thought rivera made better adjustments. Yesterday was just a frustrating game. Logic tells me that we were getting burned because our shutdown pro-bowl corners were out. But then, what about the Tampa game? The cover 2 scheme has 2 many obvious holes. It worked best in 2005 and part of 2006 when our secondary was quicker to the weak spots. Now, I don't know if we are quick enough to recover with Brown a step slower. Well to be honest, they dont run all that much cover-2. Cover 2 is a scheme, not an entire defensive philosophy. They prob run cover 2 MAYBE 20 percent of the time. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) My advice would have been to marry Holly and knock her up. Past that, he's just stupid. She's like 60 in playboy years. I would say just bang the next 18 year old girl that comes out for a photo shoot.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) Tyrus is going to have a VERY hard time getting 14 a game, even if he plays better he's probably not going to get enough touches for much more than 10. There are just too many other options on the team and he doesn't really create his own shot. I will say this about him: His shot is 100 percent better than it was when we drafted him. -
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 11:08 PM) Maybe on the diamond, wite, but AJ isn't an a**hole off of it. He happens to be the only guy on the team when I went to KC who interacted with the fans and took several minutes to sign autographs. Wassermann wouldn't even sign a little kid's hat for crying out loud. I've also met him on a few occasions off the field and he was a great guy. He's just your average adult who still likes to have fun in life and act like he's in high school, like a poor man's Manny. He actually gives a ton of money to charity as well and is a pretty good guy in the community.

B your L on a girls T's and you will be fine.

Joe Borchard was touted as a 5-tool guy, so was Brian Anderson.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 01:17 AM) Here's a good one. Would yu guys be willing to risk one mere season to finally find out if we have any players in our organization? We go with Getz at second, Lexi at ss and Fields at third and Swish at first. We go with Carlos in left, Owens/Wise in cf and Dye in right. We go with AJP as catcher and Thome as DH. We only trade Paulie to whomever he wants to be traded to. If we can't trade him, then we trade Jimmy to a team he'll go to. Just one trade with one of the big boppers involved if they agree. The trade is for a backup catcher prospect who actually can spell AJP, get some hits and throw people out. We need to rest AJP more. We keep Mark, Floyd, Danks and Clayton as our starters with Poreda No. 5. We move Javy to bullpen, huge salary be damned in this one season experiment. We keep the same bullpen corps. Our speed allegedly would be better if the guys could get on base. We see where it takes us. Would you do it? Guys ... isn't there a chance this team could win? We'd be faster in theory. If you dismiss my idea, at least tell me how you think the team I put on the field would fare. Remember our s***ty division. In that scenario you are starting basically 3 minor league/fringe big league guys that cant really hit, although Getz may have a decent avg. You also have a rotation of 4 lefties and 1 righty, 2 of those which have a limited arsenal of pitches and are very similar. Your IF defense is also a TON worse.
-
If you were an Angels fan, would you be happy with that package? I sure as s*** wouldnt. No way Santana goes in a deal like that.
-
Honestly, I wish I would have listened to people's advice when I went through s*** like this in college. Unfortunately I am headstrong and didnt, and learned my lesson through time.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) He can't hit or field. He once also got thrown out at second after Jacque Jones took ball 4. He's a plus fielder. Has a good OBP in sporatic play this season. I think he can hit as well.

Is the rest of the thread title "is the dumbest idea ever"? Young, cheap, coming off of a down year, entering prime. Not gonna happen.
