I can think of a guy that was a 1st round pick, whose career was almost a bust because his team kept throwing out there as a starter and he sucked. Then he was traded, put in the pen and has been pretty damn effective since. Matt Thornton. The point being that there is not a failsafe blueprint on how to handle young pitchers. You have to judge the individual based on what you see and do what you think is best.

MLBN ran a "Top 10 Starting Rotations" over the weekend. The '05 Sox came in at a surprising number 6. The only rotation listed above them from the last 50 years were the '97 Braves.

The ultimate Sox 'stache was Jose Valentin, but those uniforms were gone by the time he came to town. ETA: Or was he?

The man made up his mind what he was willing to do, and what he wasn't willing to do. I can respect that.

I doubt that Frank gets in on the first ballot for three reasons. 1. He spent years as a DH. 2. 1994. He was dominant force having his best season ... then baseball shut down. 3. Giambi's steroid enhanced MVP season cost Frank his 3rd. Second time around, he's in.
