Roenick, Chelios, Amonte...
Pauly8509CWS replied to nitetrain8601's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) Jeremy Roenick is still a top 5 center in the entire league we don't have a single veteran presence, and chelios at league minimum would make huge sense. :puke JR isn't close to a top 25 center in the league. In comparison to centers, he fails to make the top 30 in scoring, top 30 in FO%, and top 45 in TOI. Although many Hawk fans have man love for him for the great things he did here, he is not a top liner. And about Paul Kariya, yuck. He is the poster boy for soft hockey players. I expect his play out of a European but not a North American. If you sneeze near him he'll go down. (don't give me the garbage about in the playoffs after coming back from Stevens' hit, any hockey player would have done the same) -
Tony Amonte's contract bought out...

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 03:04 PM) Tony needs help. Those playoffs we were without Alex Zhamnov, which had a huge impact on Tony's play (or lack therof). My point was, that a player that wants that kind of money shouldn't always need help. He should have an impact by himself. -
Tony Amonte's contract bought out...

QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) Tony Amonte was my favorite hawk player from the time JR left to the time he left.... the bottom line is that he wasn't worth the money he wanted to recieve... if i was Bill Wirtz i woulda let him walk too. Broke my god damn heart though. Thank you, I said this in a thread a few months back and got grilled. He just wasn't a go-to guy. The playoffs against the Blues showed that perfectly. -

Another interesting piece for those few Hawk fans out there. When Mike Smith got fired his scouts went with him. Including top scout Marshall Johnston. He was just picked up by the 'Canes yesterday and is their scouting director thing now. They just got a good one, I liked him for some reason and got to meet him at a prospects camp a few years back. -

QUOTE(farmteam @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:19 AM) So, for all people like Keith or kap, what are the biggest names on the market, regardless of position? We'll find out a little later today. Contract buyouts started this morning so teams like Toronto will be axing some pricey veterans and more big names will be out there. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 12:29 AM) Out of them, I would want Babbs up. He has an amazing shot, and I would like to see how he plays when he sees some real ice time. If the Hawks sign another big D man(To be honest I don't really know whats out there) and just a 20 G a year winger, they could cause some trouble in the leauge. Tony, Babs is unlikely at this point because he was REAL disappointing in Norfolk last year. He didnt show the ability to play consistently good D. But who knows when it gets to camp time. And DB, I dont think the Hawks would take a goalie in the first round. They have a decent stockpile with Anderson and Leighton and Crawford. Also in the system is Michael Brodeur but I think he's on his way out. -

I think I remember Kukkonen leaving to go back to Europe while still being under Hawk control. He doesn't seem to be able to keep pace with the North American game. -
QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) I don't care for DMB myself, but there's no denying they have loads of talent. That's honest, and finally someone with a respectable view. Instead of, Whats with the s***ty sig or Weed music, like some people on soxtalk have called it.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) Keith since you seem to be the resident Hawks expert around here, what is our D corps going to end up being ATM, and is Cam Barker a chance of filling a spot? So far I have Vandermeer, Cullimore, McCarthy, Keith, Seabrook and the 6th spot wide open. The D corps will look like this Vandermeer/Berard Cullimore/ Mac Robidas/ (insert Rookie) That's what I think will get thrown out there... -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) Yep -- really wouldn't help them win games one bit. If he came cheap, and would be willing to get #5/#6 d-man minutes, that's fine. I think he could be a good mentor for young kids coming up like Keith, Babchuk, Seabrook, etc etc. If he wants more minutes/lots of cash? No thanks. :puke Come on Keith, you know Cheli cant play anymore, no matter what it's not worth it. Investing in a "mentor." By the way, LP is reupping this year -

QUOTE(bmags @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) classified as : lifestyle music I'm sure that's a jab at my musical tastes, but whatever, nobody here gives credit to talented musicians. A couple of people on this board say s*** about DMB when I say I like them, I dont say s*** about everyone else's musical likes so how about just respecting my opinion and their musical talent instead of trying to be a smartass.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) I don't know. Stephen A. Smith was pretty good as a fill in for Jim Rome. They both suck. Both are jerks and at least one got his ass kicked... :fyou both of them

QUOTE(Be Good @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) I really hope no one pays any player who threaten to hold out. Then maybe few players wouldn't threaten to hold out. The players always win, because some f***stick owner is always willing to pay...

Real breakdown of chances- NY Rangers- 79 percent Toronto- 20 percent Rest of NHL- 1 percent (extreme accident) -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) If I were him, I'd be trying to move Wood also, but I can't imagine anyone taking a guy who goes on the DL for 2 months every 3 starts. But he's really good. He and Mark Prior are the best two pitchers in baseball. Let's see how the Sox would do without Buerhle and Garcia. Those were arguments made by my cub fan friends about why the Sox are in first and the Cubs arent and when I said Wood is the most overrated pitcher in Major League Baseball.

Dave Matthews Band is my favorite. However, they are nowhere near as good as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and the Stones, Bob Dylan, and Hendrix. Hell you can't even classify Dave Matthews Band's music, sometimes it's jazz, sometimes its rock, it just shifts from who's instrument is most prominent.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:25 PM) Jody Gerut? Meh. He's ok. Dubois has some major power potential and is much better suited in the AL. Not so sure Hendry fleaced the Indians here. That's how I feel, Gerut has been struggling and if Dubois is given the chance to play he'll put up good offensive numbers. But like Kalapse said, his fielding is f***ing comical...
