  1. Gut reaction is an asset like Q should never be traded to the Cubs, especially without them paying WELL over market value. Not sure how I feel about the return yet, want to do a deeper dig on the prospects before coming to a conclusion there.

  3. The Barons pitching staff is surprisingly good. Beyond Kopech, who has ace potential, you have Adams, Stephens, and Guerrero all with a decent chance to become MLB starters. The White Sox pitching depth in the minors is pretty incredible right now.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 07:23 AM) What's interesting to me is that, looking at the other hugely desired piece, Benintendi is "only" heading for a 2.5ish fwar despite the pretty gaudy offensive numbers. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&page=1_30 Guys like Inciarte, Avi, Conforto, Turner, Gallo, Domingo Santana, Gamel, Kepler...all ranked higher. Heck, even Leury Garcia is at 1.6 despite missing the last 2-3 weeks. Is this simply a case of Boston/ESPN hype being so overwhelming that nobody can be objective about him? Because he's a left fielder and not RF? I can't imagine any GM not taking Benintendi back for any of those players listed...so do we over rely on FWAR or are we too easily seduced by the East Coast hype machine? Another example, Ian Happ and Byron Buxton have almost the same value, 1 vs. 0.9. Is Happ a 2.5 guy (not bad, but far from an All Star)...(talking ROY with Bellinger in same league, really?) another example of PR and Cubs' popularity? And yet nobody in baseball would trade Happ for Buxton and live to tell about it. The Benintendi thing is probably because he's playing LF. As I recall, most scouts thought/think his defense is CF caliber, which would probably make his fWAR much higher.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) Unlikely, but Rick Hahn grew up a Cubs fan. I think he would be more than happy to trade with them. Of course the great Theo would be at the other end. Isn't there a concern about being swindled? Not if they give up whay would be required, including the Cubs tax.
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) Tatis #22 The White Sox have trouble developing that type of player, anyway.
  7. Hansen Top 50! Glad to see him getting some recognition. Is Dunning anywhere to be found?
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 11:17 PM) Honestly, I think at this point that the best case scenario for Collins is he becomes comparable to Mike Napoli. Napoli's also another guy that is incredibly patient at the plate, who sees a ton of pitches per plate appearance. Napoli was the comp he got on draft day. Hopefully he can be that with better defense and a longer career behind the plate. Napoli was an All-Star and one of the best offensive catchers in the league for the better part of a decade. If the White Sox get that out of Collins, or maybe even slightly better, it's a win.
  9. Mendick should get a shot at AA. It's not like Birmingham has any productive hitters blocking him.
  10. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 04:17 AM) I firmly believe our future rotation breaks this way in no order. Giolito, Rodon, Kopech, Guerrero, Hansen with Burdi, Lopez, Fulmer & Dunning forming the back end of the pen. Dunning has been the best of the bunch so far, I think he's the most likely to stick as a starter out of all of the White Sox prospects.
  11. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 07:37 PM) Dane Dunning pitching another gem. 5 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 5 K's, 0 BB. Hopefully he and Hansen both keep it up and become TOR starters together.
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 07:33 PM) A rookie with first at bat singles and drives in two. Yanks 3-0 Miguel Andujar, someone I'd hoped the White Sox could get as part of a package for Q. With Torres injured and him being called up to the ML roster, that's probably out.
  13. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 04:32 PM) Also a HBP again, 3 in two days My numbers didn't factor in 3 HBP. Adding that, his OBP is .517 and OPS is .980
  14. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) I love these logical fallacies. I see them all the time on the Bulls RealGM board. Hey, look, one time a player came out of nowhere to be really good so that must mean this guy that also sucks will become just like that one guy that one time! DA does it constantly here. So does Hawk. Possible =/= Will happen, but some here act as though it's impossible, which seems just as logically fallacious, if not moreso, to me.
  15. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) Robert 1/2 2B, BB Up to .293 AVG with .954 OPS and OBP near .500. I'd say he's recovered from the slump fairly well.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) As a 22 year old, Carlton Fisk hit .229 with a .763 OPS in AA. 2 years later he was ROY hitting .293 with a .909 OPS. So you're saying it's possible to perform poorly in the minors at 22 and still wind up being a good or even great player? Good to know.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) I won't be complaining about the return in the Frazier trade. I am convinced he's worth one very very low level prospect if that. Nobody wanted Adam Dunn; nobody in their right mind would want Frazier though he is a decent fielder. I would think a team with no good options at the position would take a .750ish OPS with good D.
  18. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) Let's look at the facts here. Collins was "only" a .300 hitter for his first two years in Miami. That bumped to .360 during his draft year. However he's slumping at .222 in pro ball in almost one full season of at bats. His strikeout rate in college was also relatively high at almost 20%. He has a hitch in his swing. So aside from the good year he had as a junior, he has been a below average to poor contact hitter. It's becoming apparent that the hit tool is overhyped. He's still has plus plate discipline and can draw a ton of walks (I wish prospect evaluators would decouple plate discipline from hit tools when evaluating prospects). He'd most likely have to fix his swing to have success in upper minors and big leagues. Even if he reaches the majors, he's likely no more than a .230 hitter, but with an OBP of .300 or better and a .400 SLG. If you get a .230/.350/.450 slash from a MLB C who can throw out baserunners and frame and call well, that's a win. That said, he's also still 22, so he has time to fix his swing.
  19. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 08:38 PM) I truly get the concern for his ability to hit but his defense has made a huge stride very few are questioning if he'll be able to maintain behind the dish and that is massive, If he works that hard on his defense i can only imagine how much dedication he is going to put in an area of the game that has come easy to him for most of his college career. Yeah, if he's worked on his D and gotten results to the point that he's gone from Kyle Schwarber comps to few people questioning his ability to catch, he may not be putting much effort into his offensive game at this point, which means flaws are going to be exposed now. But if they defensive improvement is any sign of his work ethic, I won't worry about it right now. Let him get to the point where it's clear he'll be a C, then fix his swing. If he makes the strides on offense next year that he's made on defense this year, the White Sox may end up with an all-star catcher.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) All athletic outfielders are jared mitchell until the end of time. No, some are Courtney Hawkins. Others are Keenyn Walker. Others are Adam Engel or Jacob May. Point being the White Sox don't have much success with this type of player, and Jared Mitchell isn't the only example of that.
  21. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) This 2017 version of Chris Sale is for real. Looking at fangraphs: - Manged increased his swinging strike% by an incredible 5% this year, his 16.2% swstr now leads MLB, and is by far his career best. - FB velo increased by 1.5 MPH, 2nd high FB velo since becoming a starter - Mixing up his pitches, throwing 29.2% slider, by far the highest since 2013. - BABIP is consistent with his career norm - Benefited from move away from the cell. HR/9 is lowest since 2014, when he posted a 2.17 ERA All in all, it seems like Sale is going all out and maximizing his talent, the only concern is if his skinny frame will hold up till playoff time. This is all great, and I don't mean to take anything away from what he's doing, but haven't we seen this before? He pitches otherworldly for the first 5 months, then falls apart in September. That's going to be the real test for him, especially since he'll probably be pitching in October for the first time in his career.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) There is never enough SP talent in this or any other system. Many will fail, even high end prospects. TINSTAAPP?
  23. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) Sigh. I don't like that response at all. I think it's one thing to entertain offers for some of the young guys behind closed doors, but why would you publicly say the players you just traded for (or drafted) are available for the right offer? 2017 draftees can't be traded right now. Also, I don't think it's dumb to say that anyone is available for the right offer. There probably won't be a "right offer" for certain players and prospects, mostly because other teams won't be willing to pay. You'd be stupid to preclude the possibility that Billy Eppler gets a TBI and offers Trout 1 for 1 for any player on the ML roster, unlikely as that may be.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) Obviously the higher the pick the better your odds, but it all comes down to scouting and luck. Many times your second or third choice turns out better than your first. That piece a couple of weeks ago about the best player chosen in a particular spot was pretty eye popping. The draft is about 50 years old. Chad Billingsley being the best #24 pick of all time. Doesn't really make the 24th pick seem so valuable. Mike Trout should be the most valuable 24th pick of all time. And in a White Sox uniform.
