  1. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 24, 2017 -> 05:05 PM) He hasn't played the field this year due to an arm issue that may or may not prevent him from ever playing the field. That's the main issue plus the lack of a clear position even if he can play somewhere. The way his bat is talked about, it might be worth the risk of ending up with a DH only. I'd take an Edgar Martinez type player.
  2. QUOTE (yesterday333 @ May 24, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) I cant say I'm an expert or anything, but it sounds like we can get a much better player at 11. Whether its a pitcher or college hitter, there will be something better than him available for us. He would be quite a reach... That's kind of what I'm asking. What makes him a reach and these other players "something better"?
  3. Any chance of the White Sox drafting Keston Hiura? Seems to be a polished hitter who should find a home in the OF. What are the knocks on him?
  4. Saying that wins "mean nothing" is an extreme position that I'm not sure anyone would take. That said, I think it's completely reasonable to acknowledge that wins are far more a product of overall team performance and run support received by a pitcher than they are a product of pitcher performance. I don't think anyone would argue that a 20 win pitcher with a 4 ERA is better than a 10 win pitcher with a 3 ERA, given equal or nearly equal innings pitched.
  5. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 22, 2017 -> 08:08 PM) Hansen. 5 IP 6 H 3 R 3 ER 3 BB 10 SO Good K numbers, but a fairly pedestrian outing otherwise.
  6. How rare is a 60 FV hit tool? Moncada is supposed to be the best talent on the planet that isn't in MLB, and his hit tool grades out 55 FV. A scouting director said Robert is the best player on the planet, and his hit tool grades out 55 FV. Just once I'd like to see a White Sox hitting prospect graded with a 60+ FV hit tool.
  7. QUOTE (SouthSide2004 @ May 20, 2017 -> 08:54 PM) I don't think they'd trade all three OF prospects in one deal. I think you'd have to get an arm as the third piece. The Sox have a lot of arms as is and given a choice between Frazier and Fowler, I might take Fowler.
  8. QUOTE (SouthSide2004 @ May 20, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) With how well Judge has played this year, Ellsbury going nowhere anytime soon, Harper eventually a strong possibility, and a rising Dustin Fowler at AAA, I really think Clint Frazier & Blake Rutherford could be readily available in a Quintana deal. Throw in a young arm and that's a very attractive package IMO and one the Yankees might actually agreento. It should be obvious to everyone they need to add a couple veteran arms to the top of their rotation if they ever want to be serious contenders. Think Frazier, Rutherford, Fowler would be too much?
  9. Maybe it's just me, but from the perspective of evaluating a player and how it is typically done, this statistic makes much more sense as BB% + ISO - K%. Then it would read more like every other statistic, where the larger the positive number is, the better the player is in that category.
  10. Winston-Salem's OF defense should be very solid with two potential CFs out there. I wonder if they're going to bump Call to LF or RF while he's there. I also hope Call forces the issue and gets to Birmingham so he can continue to get reps in CF.
  11. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Mar 5, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Lopez final line 3 IP 3 hits 1 walk 3 strikeouts 1 ER That's a solid line.
  12. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) If Boston needs replacement for Price, best FA available could be Doug Fister. Industry speculation: Will BOS use Devers to pursue Quintana? https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/837360517106794496 Benintendi and Devers. Do they have the system to get a Q deal done with Devers as the headliner? I don't think they do without including Benintendi.
  13. Good to see Hahn wants more than Baez and Schwarber for Quintana, and acknowledged that publicly. As for the rebuild being hard on JR, maybe he should've thought of that when he was being cheap and loyal.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 07:34 AM) Also, if you want a list with a few head-scratchers, here is 2080 Ball's Sox list. Basabe is at 3rd, and they have Collins not in the Top 10. I think Basabe being at 3 is a product of them being on the ceiling of Basabe a lot more than most. Most reports I've seen have had him as a toolsy OF with a decent but questionable hit tool that is the cause for his wide range of projections, and will ultimately determine whether he ends up at the floor of them, at the ceiling of them, or somewhere in between. Most scouting reports I've seen on Basabe list his current/ceiling hit tool projections as 40-45/50-55. If 2080 legit grades him out with a 60 projected hit tool (which is what they list), then I can see why they would have him as the third best prospect in the system.
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 11, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) There's no way in hell the Sox turned down a package like that. And no way I buy them offering a 6 for 1 deal unless one of those MLB players had a bad contract like Bastardo. Keller, Glasnow, Bell, Hayes, Diaz...I can't figure out who the "SP currently in MLB" is, unless they're just naming Glasnow twice. Not a big fan of that deal. Meadows, Glasnow/Keller (I prefer Glasnow because the White Sox are great at fixing control issues), Bell, Hayes probably gets it done for me.
  16. I think that it's official at this point that there's nothing to see here, not just a rumor.
  17. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Feb 7, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) Fangraphs has us at 71-91, AL worst. Not MLB worst?
  18. QUOTE (Soha @ Jan 21, 2017 -> 06:28 PM) I would prefer this. Glasnow's control problems concern me as a headliner in any type of deal. At any rate, I don't think the Sox should move on any deal with the Pirates if Bell or Meadows isn't in it. According to reports they are untouchable. Control issues are the thing the White Sox are best at fixing. If another team is undervaluing a pitcher because of control issues, that's EXACTLY the player the White Sox should target.
  19. Is there any chance Mason Robbins gets a shot? If he mashes AA and AAA pitching for most of the year, maybe a September callup?
  20. .250/.330/.480 35 HR Bounceback year that won't entirely happen with the White Sox.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 03:35 AM) This doesn't even make sense. Potential #1 picks the next 2 years probably won't be ready to help us in 2019. I know it's not likely, but if the Sox are able to get two advanced college hitters in those drafts, they may be ready to make an impact fairly quickly. Look at Bregman, Benintendi, and Bryant. If half of what the Sox end up with from trading off the roster develops the way we hope it will, and they can get 2 impact bats like that out of the 2018 and 2019 drafts, I would expect them to be able to attract the big names in the 2018 free agent class (though I think Reinsdorf will ultimately be too cheap to sign them) and potentially be in the hunt for the wild card in 2019 and possibly much more in 2020.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 08:31 AM) I remember the halcyon days of late 2013 when it became clear the White Sox would get the #3 pick and not the #1 pick and how badly they screwed up by costing themselves the chance at the clear #1 pick, Carlos Rodon. It's not good to count on the teams in front of you to be stupid.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) Aside from stats, Guerrero is one of those players that is just "hall-worthy" for how memorable they were. Laser throws from outfield, golf swing home runs. He was just awesome. Vladimir Guerrero is the only player I've ever seen turn an intentional walk into a double. They were trying to pitch around him, and the pitcher threw the ball eye high and over the left handed batter's box, but Guerrero slapped it down the right field line for a double. He's also the only player I've ever seen hit a home run off of a ball that bounced before it got to home plate.
  24. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 10:54 AM) huh Lots of average-below average bats, relievers, and starters available that only cost money, and some GMs are very hesitant to give up their prospects. That's what the article says.
  25. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) Rick Hahn to Blame for Q market stalling out? This is from The Athletic, I don't have a subscription so I can't read anything past the first paragraph, but looks like potential blame shifting to RH taking too long to make a deal piece (basing that on context clues). Basically said he set the bar too high with the first two trades, and other GMs have been made hesitant by that and the abundance of options on the free agent market.
