  1. I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm so tired of this "sage wisdom" from "wiser" fans because they're older. I also noticed that none of those posters you mentioned even live in the state, so maybe they go to 1 or 2 games a year. I'm not saying that makes anyone a better fan, which I DO believe is the theme of this thread and your overall history of posting, but I'm not going to take advice on how to enjoy a game from someone who hardly ever goes to any. Trust me, I thoroughly enjoy going to and watching games despite my pessimistic attitude.
  2. I think we had a crazy predictions thread, but I'm just going to put this here. I'm going to say that the Phillies don't even make the playoffs. And if they do, they lose in the first round.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) Good. For a minute, I thought I was in the Diamond Club and I was really excited.
  4. The thing is that I was pretty sure it was a Cagney movie, and I had just gotten done watching White Heat. So, I looked up the ends to the two other really famous gangster movies he was in (Angels With Dirty Faces and The Public Enemy) on Wikipedia, but only read the very ends of the plot because I thought it was the final scene. Neither one of them said anything about that scene, so I came here to ask. White Heat was f***ing awesome, though.
  5. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 11:46 PM) "The Public Enemy" (1931) — CLASSIC Cagney, and honestly still one of the best gangster films ever made. :headbang Thank you, sir.
  6. I remember on an episode of the Sopranos, Tony is watching an old gangster movie. I'm not sure what it is, but here is a rough description of the scene they show. It looks to be the final scene, but a mother is waiting for her son (a gangster) to return home. The doorbell rings and, when the door opens, the son is there seemingly wrapped in a sheet or gauze and probably dead. He falls into the doorway. Does anyone know which movie this is?
  7. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 07:22 PM) Touche sir...or maybe i meant to do it? I thought you might have meant it, but it was still too perfect since it was all in one sentence.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 12:43 PM) Hyperbole aside, it was a steal considering Weth signed for a billion dollars a couple days later. "Hyperbole aside" and "Werth signed for a billion dollars"
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 05:03 PM) That's fine and well, but Phelps' hands came down on the pad, while Cavic's came in straight. The Serbian team didn't even push for the next level of appeals. Give it up, dude.
  10. Does anyone know how you check this on Firefox?
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 10:42 PM) More fuel to the side of Peavy not being a ________( insert derogatory here )_________. I thought we were dropping that.
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) Some being me; the only person rooting against Phelps and for Cavic. Cavic won. Let me guess, Cavic is Serbian?
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) Steve, Gage, Milkman, you guys sound old as hell! 25, but man is there a generational gap. I seriously remember my parents and my friends' parents being pissed at us if we were in the house for 2 hours during our time off from school. Having them tell us to go outside more made me feel like a bum for being outside for only 8-10 hours. Now it's completely acceptable for kids to be inside all day, and then they want a ride to their friend's house two blocks away.
  14. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 05:33 PM) No, you never used it. But there ARE people completely writing him off which I think is incredibly foolish. You're not one of them. IMO, it's too early to call the trade a bust for the same reason it's too early to call an NFL team's draft anything until you're like 3-5 years in. You can say how the players have been so far, but broad, sweeping judgments are unwarranted. Again, this is not actually directed at you. I know what you mean and I'm definitely not taking offense. There just doesn't seem to be a problem with the statement that the Peavy deal has been a bust. It's just semantics, though.
  15. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 05:26 PM) I would get calling the trade a bust in a few years if he has been perpetually injured between now and then. It's just really premature. I don't believe I used the term "bust", but the deal has definitely been a bust to this point. That's not to say it can't change, but I can't see how it's too early to say it has been to this point.
  16. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) I have seen the word "bust" thrown around a couple of times, implying that he has no future value. It's also hard to argue that he hasn't been a bust so far. I'm not even sure bust implies that he will never come back.
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) Milkman delivers...again. And Curt Hennig remains dead. Why I oughta...
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 04:58 PM) That can easily be interpreted as "he sucks" Explain to me how he's not a drain on the team, then. I can't be held responsible because someone can't interpret what I said. I'm angry because I know he doesn't suck, in fact he's quite good. We just can't see how good he is because he's always on the DL.
  19. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) not picking a fight, but are you f***ing serious? Frustrated, yes. Disappointed, yes. Angry? You think this guy has done something to bring this on himself? Blame management for bringing him in, blame Cooper for not fixing his mechanics (if that's even realistic) but getting mad at him seems pretty irrational. No, not seems. Is. I don't give a f*** how irrational it is. The guy is paid extremely well to pitch and he never does because he's always hurt. I can't get angry at a shoulder injury or a torn muscle, but I can be upset at the guy who keeps having the injuries because he's not able to do what he's supposed to do. He's injury prone, I'll get him a box of Kleenex. I'll still be angry at him for being injured.
  20. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) Yea - but he sucks. Always has sucked, always will suck, and will never again be healthy - now that we've heard about a sore rotator cuff - it is over. He's a glass piece of s*** ass hole. I don't think anybody said he sucks or that he will always suck. The fact is, though, that he hasn't been healthy for this team yet. And yes, a sore rotator cuff is pretty bad news. There is good reason to be angry at him for never being healthy, and plenty of reason to think that he's prone to injury. And you know what, I don't appreciate you calling me out. You bring absolutely nothing in the way of baseball discussion to this board. You've been doing the same to J4L for the last week, and he's been on this board for years having logical arguments. I honestly can't recall a single post of yours that had any relevance or even more than barely made sense. I'll probably get a suspension for this, but you honestly have no basis for mocking the posts of other people on this board when all of yours are pure garbage. You bring nothing to this board, and I imagine nobody would rather see your posts over those of J4L and, I hope, mine.
  21. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) Gordon Beckham often makes outs and therefore should be beaten. I got a nice LOL out of this.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) I hate to do this, but I think color plays a factor here. Now, I'm not accusing anyone here of this, but over time you happen to notice a pattern. When a young white player does these acts that have been referred to as showboating, people describe him as "passionate". When a young black player does them, he's called "cocky" or "arrogant" and accused of showboating. Would we really be having this same discussion if the player taking his helmet off after rounding third was Gordon Beckham? I seriously doubt it. Personally, I think people getting worked up over Milledge taking his helmet off is ridiculous. Why don't we want our players to have a little bit of style and attitude to them? It's not like he's trying to be an asshole and rub it in the pitcher's face. It's just something he does. If the pitcher wants to be overly sensitive and take exception to him, that's his choice. I just don't see why any fan would actually be bothered by this. I hate the race card as much as anybody, but I completely agree. I've been kind of saying this for a while by mentioning that people are confusing Milledge with Delmon Young.
  23. What the organization would do and what we would do is likely pretty different. Unless the team falls flat on its face, I don't see them trading him to replace him with Flowers. They've shown that they can be taken at their word, and I'd imagine with AJ taking a pay cut, that he was led to believe that he'd be on the team through the end of his contract. I also don't know how much other teams would pay for AJ with his reputation.
  24. It's scary to see this taking a toll on so many teams. It makes you think that this economy, which we've been hoping would get better for years, is nowhere near a turnaround. This really is a bad time. I can hardly imagine what it was like during the Depression.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 01:47 PM) Manhunt, Street Hockey, Whiffle Ball, Kill the man with the ball, building stuff, etc... We were outside allll the time growing up. You couldn't get us to come in the house. PS...i kinda wish i grew up in that neighborhood The funny thing I remember is that parents still used to tell us to go outside a lot, although we did go out a ton. Apparently, my parents and my friends' parents were never allowed in their houses at any point growing up. Imagine if we were like kids today...
