Going Rate for a Baby Sitter?
QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) Under 18 Babysitter? The going rate is 10-20 years, I think... Oh sorry...I was confused by the question. And now you know why Ribbie and Rubarb were "retired"...

The Official 7/17 Sox Withdrawal Relief Game Thread vs. Baltimore
Damn I don't know how I make it through the winter without baseball, because these few days have been hell!

So, it's created by Hollywood after all...
Have you seen NASA's budget? They do more on less than any other governmental agency in existance.

Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
QUOTE (SI1020 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 01:02 PM) I couldn't disagree more. Just because a guy's name is Bowman he still has to prove himself. I just don't understand all this Tallon hate. Do people forget how long this team was beyond abysmal? Tallon did a very good job. As far as his five worst moves being so much worse than his five best, I can't see that either. It has been said by several sources that worst move number one was actually the responsibility of the man that replaced him. I say that not to absolve Tallon of the blame he deserves but to put things in a little perspective. If you've worked for a while then you know that sometimes it doesn't matter if you're good at your job or not when a new team comes in. McDonough for all his supposed marketing genius comes across to me as very arrogant and think skinned. It won't matter one whit if the Hawks end their long Stanley Cup drought. Personally I think they are still a little short, and if they should happen to meet the Penguins in the finals next year, the result will be the same as in 1992. It would be different if Scotty wasn't involved in this organization as well. I do agree that the Hawks aren't quite there yet. You are not going to be a Cup Winner with Christobal Huet as your netminder.

Royals DFA Tony Pena, Jr.!!!
I don't know why people get so upset about players like this. With 25 man rosters and 30 teams in the league, there are bound to be some bad players in the league, especially in places that don't have much of a payroll.

Dayan Viciedo: A First Half Review
That's a really nice write up. The only thing that worries me are rumors about work ethic.

Catch-All Anything Thread
The Miller High Life commercials are the dumbest thing on TV right now. In every single situation where they "take back the High Life" the people that they are taking it from would have never had that piss water in the first place!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) Aside from the Phoenix Coyotes has any other major sports franchise ever filed for bankruptcy? The Buffalo Sabres went through bankruptcy with the worldcom mess.

For the minimum, it is great gamble for them. Why not?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) I think that was rumored. If the Sox offered Dye and we didn't get Jackson than the Rays GM is the dumbest GM alive. Because what they got was a lot less than Jermaine Dye for Edwin Jackson. He also cost $10 million per year less or more, which is a large consideration these days.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) Oh, so now you guys LOVE the Congressional Budget Office? 2 nights ago they were a horrible horrible partisan group that has been seduced by the beauty of Obama's backside. But then its head says something that can be taken out of context appropriately to make it sound anti-health-care reform, and suddenly we're all good again right? That came from one person exactly, but way to categorize that as "you all"

Rosenthal says we could be interested in Rios.
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) He's a barely above average player and he doesn't warrant anything great. I'd imagine a package involving John Shelby would definitely sway KC to make the trade. Why would KC move Teahen for Shelby?

Rosenthal says we could be interested in Rios.
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) Probably not... We'll be handcuffed financially if we get Rios and I'm betting the Jays will be asking for a decent return. With Teahen, we can give them 2-3 mediocre prospects and he'd be ours. If we get money with his contract, we will give up something decent. If we take his contract, we could get him for nothing. Heck we could probably claim him off of waivers soon enough if we really wanted him. As for Teahen, I doubt he will be as cheap as you think. Its hard to find a guy that does as much as he does and still has a decent bat.

buehrle
QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 08:58 AM) Don Sutton is in. Tommy John and Bert Blyleven aren't. Those were 3 guys with longevity based statistics. .... Hell add Phil Neikro as being in. So, if Mark hangs around long enough to get close to 300 wins it's a 50-50 chance. If MB can win 300, he is in no doubt. There aren't any pitchers who have won 300 and not made it, right? I don't think Mark sticks around that long. I don't think he needs baseball as much as we need Mark Buehrle.

FS Interview With Dan Hudson
Ah, yes, ready to be an instant favorite I was a big fan of the Braves growing up and my favorite player was Chipper Jones. They were always on tv on TBS so I would watch them everyday. I never really started following the Sox until I got drafted by them but I can tell you I already love watching the Cubs lose.

Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Scotty Bowman is sure getting a lot of credit for shared work done with Murray, Devellano, and Holland. Stan Bowman's getting a lot of credit for being a f*** trophy. Which is still more than Tallon has ever done.
