7/20 Game thread vs. Detroit
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) Did Pauly mislead us?? Were we once told he was fast? The guy is horribly slow...it sucks, but it is what it is. Does there have to be b****ing everytime he hits a groundball?? And hence why the game threads suck anymore. 3/4s of the posts are b****ing about Konerko, and there isn't one post in this whole thread that actually has what matters most... THE SCORE OF THE GAME! :headshake

QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) Just keep in mind his ERA is gonna be scewed due to two horrendous outings. His been pretty decent otherwise Plus after talking to him, he wasn't but 75 or 80% in the 3 starts he made. He is finally getting back close to 100%.

Scotty beamed up.
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) And just for the record, I offer a Happy Birthday greeting to some of y'all just to add to the post counts. Unlike a certain post count whore who never admits to it and someone I think invented a secret forum that only he has access to and can post spam all day long without anyone knowing. Jealous much? One of these days, I'll have to do a Rules for Spamming thread, until then my secrets are safe.

Frank...how patient are you willing to be with him
QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) Frank makes everyone around him better. He takes pitches. I'm more concerned with Konerko at this point. That's part of the problem with Frank right now, he's not taking many pitches and it seems like he is always in a pitchers count. He only has 16 walks in his 101 ABs, to go along with 29 K's.

DO we not have enough to trade?
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) Here's the deal, half the teams in baseball think they're still in it. Everyone is chasing the same 4 players. I don't think the asking price for these guys will come down. It's comical to me that teams who have a #3 starter available are asking for 2 guys they can plug into their rotation in return. It's like, sure we'll give you Garland and Contreras for Schmidt, uh huh, yeah, of course we will. Exactly. A deadline deal is supposed to add a stud with minimal impact on your 25 man roster, if you are a contender. This year is just the opposite. We would be hurting ourselves both this year and in the future if we did any of the rumored big name trades that are out there right now.

DO we not have enough to trade?
QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) Do you think our prospects will be enough to pull a major trade with these "playoff contenders" as we get closer to July 31? To be quite honest, but the law of averages I think at least one or two teams will hit the skids in the next two weeks and decide to sell off at the last minute. I think they will also be looking at the valuations of players on the exsisting markets and think that they can get a good return for their guys so it is worth it to take it on the chin for two months. Watch for the teams that are at, or just below, .500 now and watch what they do for the next week to ten days.

DO we not have enough to trade?
QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) Whats going on? you are mocking me!!!! It is a vent LAY OFF! My point is... do we not have enough in our farm to get major help? The teams that have usuable parts for us don't want minor leaguers... They want major leaguers.

A bad day at the ballpark is better than a good day at the job.

DO we not have enough to trade?
The teams who are willing to trade are so few that the prices are insane to get a player. Read what the Marlins and Giants wanted for Burnett and Schmidt and tell me how it is worth it. We would be losing multiple starting players for fewer starting players, which isn't what we are looking to do now. We are looking to add a player without disrupting the 25 man roster.

Jason Schmidt News
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) Yeah... the fact that he was only mediocore before joining the same team with Bonds and Balco is just a coincidence right... After an already long major league career he suddenly just found all this talent... Yeah right keep dreaming.... Ohh and also Benito Santiago, Marvin Benard... think of all the players the Giants had in the same time frame that have used... sorry but I perfer to live in the real world... I will once again say the same thing I said from day one... I would love to get Jason Schmidt on this team if the price is right... BUT NO WAY IN HELL IS HE WORTH MORE THEN A MID LEVEL PROSPECT, MAYBE A HIGH PROSPECT!, but you sure don't weaken your starting staff to get him... He is insurance for El Duque, so we trade Jose for him and that leaves us what if El Duque gets hurt... I mean think about it... I would even be ok with a BMAC for Schmidt deal, but no way on earth would I weaken our major league team to get him... What is the deal with the ginormous font?

7/20 Game thread vs. Detroit
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:13 AM) He's just lost up there right now. That's to be a bit expected after being out of baseball for a while, however this is a good time to get Carl some ab's while Frank is in a rut. Frank's going to be fine, I have no doubt about that but it's going to take some time. But Maggs seems OK after missing almost the exact same amount of time...

7/20 Game thread vs. Detroit
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) I completely agree, problem is scott has hit lefties fantastic this year, is probably the most valuable player of this team offensively and overall has just been awesome. Right now with Frank really looking lost Carl should be in there instead of Frank for his 2nd day of starting in a row instead of sitting out Pods. Let me add I think ozzie's done an absolutely fantastic job of working Carl in there, I just personally think Scott needs to be out there everyday. I agree Frank needs a day off. He has been lost for about a week now.

7/20 Game thread vs. Detroit
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) Pods is really starting to become a platoon player, this makes no sense at all to me. Anytime there is a lefty out there now scotty has the day off. The problem is that you have to get Carl Everett ABs somehow. He has been by far the most clutch player on this team in 2005.
