Edgar Renteria
Now that makes a lot more sense. $8 mil a year is much more realistic with the market value that was already set. To think that Renteria was only going to average a million dollars a year more than Guzman would have been a pretty s***ty offer.

Why not go after Beltran?
With his $4 million contract? I would say about 90% as I see it.

So the bandwagon is emptying, what's your point. And if you aren't proud to wear your White Sox cap even when the team is in last place, you are one of the bandwagon fans. I don't care how many people are at Wrigley, it doesn't have anything to do with my fandom, as it obviously does with some people here. The less of those fans we have, the happier I am. Go ahead, desert with the rest of them.

A "Beltran" like CFer for Garland?
I am going to nitpick a little right here. I don't ever recall either Alomar or Everett having legal problems. Roberto made a split second stupid decesion when he spit on that ump. Ever since that moment he has done everything possible to make up for it. He apologized to everyone and his brother, and has even become personal friends with the ump. Nothing has happened since. Everett was the victim of the Red Sox hatchett job to discredit him. Nothing has happened since he left beantown. Bradley is establishing a pattern of public behavior that is dangerous and potentially scary.

Well for me it is...

Why not go after Beltran?
Everett signed a potential two year deal last off season. He exersized his option for 2005, and that is the only obligation we have to him.

fly under the radar and do this
Soriano is going to make about $8 million playing a position we can field someone making $300k-ish. That's how you can say no to Soriano, we don't have the payroll and he doesn't fill any of the teams real holes.

Once proud? Seriously? How many titles did they win under Bill Veeck, or any other recent owner for that sake? Hell even divisions? What do you mean by proud? I hope it isn't winning, because you won't find a time where the Sox have been more consistantly competitive in their history. The Sox haven't finished in the second division since 1989, a streak of 15 years. The Sox have never had a longer streak of not finishing worse than 3rd. The Sox have won 3 (or 4 if you include 94, which I don't) divisions under JRs ownership. The last time the Sox finished first in their division 3 times in that short of a span was 1901-1919, when they won divisions 4 times, including their 2 WS titles. I don't know if you realize it or not, but since 1920, the Sox have finished in first place 4 times, only one of those was not under the current ownership. This organization has been a joke for 85 years now. There is no once proud about it, in anything resembling recent history. This group of Sox fans is actually lucky to be seeing a decent run of teams, instead of just plain horrible teams that many fans had to endure. I know people like to act like the sky is falling, but if you know your history, the sky fell long ago on the southside.

Renteria at $6 mil a year is a steal. Problem is if our offer is that close to STL, I have no doubts he will stay in STL.

Good to hear the glowing assessment for Jim's future. Even if it isn't with the Sox ( ) I really hope the best for Bull. He is a really nice and accomidating guy, and deserves the best.

Found buried on page 12 Friday
As I was reading the weekend papers to catch up on the days I didn't have time last week I came accross something interesting. I have seen the arguement made that if they hate our freedom, why aren't they attacking people like the Dutch who argueably have more freedom than we do. Well guess what, Al Qaeda is alive and well there too. Government officials are on hit lists, mosques are getting torched, threats are being made, terror attacks are being planned, freedom is in danger, people are scared, and its all in Holland. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationw...,1,212669.story

why I will not by tickets this year
The payroll increased over 20% from 2003-2004 and attendance was practically unchanged. In other words, the team did their part, but the fans didn't. People b**** about payroll, but haven't held up their end of the bargin. The team might not have preformed as expected, but the team put up $13 million more in payroll to try to make it happen. Players flopping is out of JRs control, as are the catastrophic injuries to their two marque players...
