  1. The one thing I will say is that the Sox finally have TV money flowing in and something like a $40 million payroll without Robert next year. Even if you add him back and say another $15 to $20 million in the usual garbage signings, that leaves us at like $75-80 million. I don't buy that they will do this, but it is POSSIBLE
  2. That doesn't leave a lot of room for the rest of the signings does it?
  3. This year they really did a great job with it, both with Smith and claiming Vasil.
  4. Honestly? With as crappy as the Sox roster is, they can actually afford to take on potential rule 5 guys as it's not like we don't have roster spots we can make. If it is the best talent you get offered, take it. We don't have a real roster crunch if we are actually willing to jettison the flotsam.
  5. We live in a weird time right now, but yeah, I could never actually look at one of my teenage daughters and then use their sex to diminish them. As broad as the English language is, and as intelligent as we are, I don't think it is a horrible thing to be better than that. My whole goal as a parent is to leave things in a better state for my kids, than what I got. This is one of those tiny little things we can easily do better.
  6. It's probably a sugar high TBH, but if you get another GM thinking that the Sox are toxic and their team would offer a way better environment with a new start, that could help finish a deal.
  7. I have to imagine Andrew Vaughn is actually doing more for Luis Robert's trade value than anyone outside of Luis Robert right now.
  8. That's the problem. They have made minimal investments in the younger kids year after year down there.
  9. When it comes to the position players they are all so young. I want to see dudes rake in Birmingham before I get excited.
  10. I think deeper is a fair term. I think we have more major league ceilings, but a lot less all star to star type ceilings. The collapse of so many SPs and a real lack of position players is such a big problem for the rebuild.
  11. My god those kids will swing at anything!
  12. LIterally the people in the know who already talking about Luis Robert's work ethic.
  13. There was even an article the other day saying he HAD to be traded on the The Athletic.
  14. The problem is guys like Clase or Duran could be available as well. Do you bet the proven guy or the unproven guy?
  15. No one is giving up a top guy for a completely unproven Grant Taylor. There will be more proven guys on the market.
  16. There has been an early whisper campaign for Robert, but really no one has left yet this year. They did hit both Moncada and Eloy on the way out last year.
  17. I think the Sox really will WANT to be active, but I think other sellers will have more attractive parts for sale. Even if Baltimore just backs up on their free agent types, they become the most interesting seller for sure. Could you also see some combination of the Reds, Cards, Dbacks and Giants see if they could sell high? They trail by 6 plus in their division races, and have a lot of teams at least 2.5 games ahead in the wild card standings. This next week could be huge for them. The Angels, Gards, Twins, and Royals sit very similar in the AL.
  18. He and Nightengale have said that, though both seems like they always on the ultra-optimistic side. I think Nightengale is LaRussas leak guy personally.
  19. To be fair, you really didn't hear that under Hahn/Williams/Griffol/LaRussa either, you only heard players get trashed on their way out the door, which continues to this day. The closest you would ever come is a mad explayer. The Chicago media doesn't have the stones to actually report on this team, only to parrot what they are told to say.
  20. I have been in my industry for almost 30 years now, and we talk about a lot of things with leadership. The only time we hear about accountability in the middle of a time period is when people aren't pulling their weight. It's a much different picture at the beginning, than hallway through the season.
  21. And we have a veteran talking about holding players accountable right here.
  22. We had zero evidence of anything being wrong before the last group collapsed other than some between the lines stuff. I am sure not waiting for our Crack reporters to tell us anything until it is a post mordum.
