  1. Good luck trying to get Jerry to sign Tanaka when he's been pitching with a partially torn UCL for years. Tanaka isn't happening, Jerry is too risk averse. I don't think Jerry would even consider Tanaka on a 1 year deal. Beside the point, as I said earlier, reports are that if not the Yankees, Tanaka is strongly considering returning to Japan so if he stays in MLB he's probably going to the west coast.
  2. There was a report a few weeks ago that if they couldn't re-engage with the Yankees he was strongly considering returning to NPB.
  3. I wanted Odorizzi all winter. I'd rather have Odorizzi+Dunning than Lynn. However if the budgetary restraints are very real, then Lynn's 8.5M salary for 2021 is a huge factor in the acquisition. BTW if Lynn regresses I don't think it will be to complete suck but to what he's always been, which is a 3-3.5 fWAR guy. Still valuable, but not worth Dunning on a 1 year rental. BTW based on how slow this winter is and the CBA being up, at least 2022 is fucked and the threat of a strike in August or September is very real.
  4. Yeah, Archer is the only guy in that FA tier that is palatable. It's starting to look like we should be hoping for Archer or that they can get Musgrove for a reasonable price. Best case scenario is that the Diamondbacks are as interested in a deal around Madrigal for Gallen as the Marlins were.
  5. The more I think about them potentially signing Richards over Quintana it's because they want the flexibility to potentially move Richards to the bullpen when Kopech is ready.
  6. Guys up in '23: Giolito(as of right now, I hope they are able to agree on an extension this spring, but if it doesn't happen the Sox have a hard decision to make in 23) Grandal Keuchel (if his option vests) I also believe Anderson is up in '24 and Moncada in '25. The more I think about this, the more I think there's a 3-4 year window and fuck 2025 and later.
  7. Yeah, the Sox QO'd Abreu, he accepted and then they tore that up and negotiated a 3 yr deal. Usually the Sox get extensions done during ST but if OD happens without one, then they have to start thinking like Tampa and Oakland.
  8. Damn, have to think that this was the last chance.
  9. You could say that about any shitty pitcher. That being said, Lopez's peripherals have always been shitty since he's been in a Sox uni, so it's no surprise he regressed hard in 2019.
  10. That goes back to the point that I usually make that whoever they'd have taken would have sucked anyway. My opinion is that Watson is so damn good it wouldn't have mattered.
  11. All the Bears had to do was stay at #3 and take Watson in 2017. Le Sigh. Would have been better for everyone involved.
  12. I thought it was too, but apparently it is now unretired.
  13. Eaton has the number 6 on the Sox website.
  14. That's a cookie cutter answer that I'd expect from any athlete. It means nothing.
  15. Arguable, but that's a debate for the political scientists. My mistake is that I assumed most people could understand that social democracy and modern democratic socialism are only slightly different. That's my bad.
  16. Anyway guys...for those of you that think socialism is a dirty word: I want an economy that works for everyone, no matter their minority or majority status. I want a government whose policies reflect the will of the people rather than those who can contribute the most money to campaign funds. To make a long story short.
  17. The DH is going to be either Vaughn or some combo of Collins/Leury/cheap LH FA(La Stella?) Leury rakes against LHP so Collins/Leury might be ok as a DH platoon until Vaughn proves he is or isn't ready. If those guys suck, then rent someone at the TDL. That would mean they need a defensively capable backup catcher though, preferably a RH hitter.
  18. @Y2Jimmy0 How confident are you that Giolito signs an extension this offseason?
  19. IIRC slot for the 12th pick was more than Kelley got from the Sox. They probably cost themselves money by pulling the stunt that they did. My point is that if they trade Kelley, expect agents to play more hardball with the Sox FO. "It's a business" is a two way street. That's my point. It's fine if they trade Kelley, as long as they're willing to live with the consequences of that decision.
  20. Yeah, but they did the Sox a favor because Kelley was a top 15 talent, and they(meaning Kelley and his agent) pulled strings so the Sox could get him in the 2nd round. For a team that has a strict budget. can they really afford to close doors like that for talent acquisition? Not to mention the self-imposed restrictions the Sox have on amateur talent acquisition.
