With JD being inked and fields being put in LF, along with this organizations view that it can and will contend next year that all but means we're going to sign or trade for a CF. So what becomes of Sweeney? hes still young but there just doesn't appear to be an opening in this organization for him sans CF and it looks as though that window is closing fast. I see him being shipped off to the marlins for Taylor Tankersley or Kevin Gregg seeing how KW loves high power relief arms.

I'd like to see both furcal & rowand on the southside next year. Both LA teams are going to make a huge push for A-Rod if he opts out, and regardless the dodgers have Hu and LaRoche ready to step in on the cheap. So i see them moving Nomar and Pierre. I think if LA pays half of Juan's remaing contract(18.25) they could get a very nice package from the twins. They need a Leadoff hitter and CF bad. Looking to '08 S Furcal SS R Rowand CF L Thome DH R Konerko 1B R Dye RF L AJP C R Crede 3B R Fields LF L Richar 2B

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 02:19 AM) None of that matters. Best available player in the MLB draft, that's all that matters. if that were true the drays wouldn't have taken price #1 overall it would've been Rick Porcello.

i posted this over at SSS thought id repost here. I see our only competition for Alvarez as Baltimore; and here is why: Tampa Bay has Evan Longoria looking to break into the hot corner out of ST next year, with Akinori Iwamura moving to an MI spot, possibly SS hes got an amazing glove and above average arm at 3B, he could be average to slightly above at SS. Florida still has Miguel and if they ever get a new stadium they'll lock him up long term to play 3B so long as he doesn't eat him self out of it, he should be a fixture there for the foreseeable future. If not they just drafted Matt Dominguez incase they can't keep Miguel or he needs to be moved to 1B/LF. Pittsburgh has Neil Walker who since being moved from behind the dish has gotten better and has been able to focus more on his bat and should be ready for the pirates in the next year and a half. That brings us to Baltimore they've got Bill Rowell who is still a bit away but has alot of promise, in the interm they've got mora and huff at 3B, so they strike me as the only team that would pick him ahead of us seeing how their FO is horrible. They've taken two catchers over the past three years in Brandon Snyder & Matt Wieters.

Dodgers. I lived out in North Ridge for a good chunk of time and my gf's mom at the time was a huge dodger fan, since she was originally from Brooklyn and moved out to LA with her family the same year (1958). it rubbed off on me i've been a fan since then.

Harris is good this year because of two things. 1.) he is no longer trying to pull the ball and hit for power but instead spray the ball to all fields, both sox organizations preached pull to him, there was an article earlier this year with harris saying as much and 2.) Terry Pendleton is a stud.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) So is the tradeoff of stunting his defense for letting him continue to face major league pitching worth it? I say get rid of Crede and quit trying to pencil Fields in left. +1 maybe even package Crede with Broadway to one of the following giants/padres/phillies for a decent return. Josh is the 3B for the present and future. Crede lost his credibility when he and his agent we're to selfish to have the out paitent procedure to allow the sox FO to lock him up knowing he was healthy. The only way josh becomes supplanted is if the sox draft Pedro Alvarez in '08. even though Sweeney has been a disappointment down at AAA, hes still young, let him develop at the ML level and deal with his growing pains, putting him RF, and moving JD to left brings our defense up a couple notches. Signing one of the 3 elite CFer's in the offseason will make us even better. Sox attendance has been pretty good this year. If the sox trade one of their SP(garland to the dodgers for furcal) and sign Rowand the vast majority of our fanbase will look at those moves as brining us back into contention and we'll be in year two following our championship run.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 09:02 AM) I wonder if KW will make another run at Conor Jackson in the offseason. KW has now been preaching OBP and Conor Jackson brings just that. Come on Bearsox, yo know better than that. whatever KW preaches you go with the exact opposite. For Example; No inseason contract extentsions = inseason contract extentions and preaching high OBP = Erstad, Podsednik, Owens.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) DH: Thome 1B: Konerko 2B: Richar SS: ? 3B: Crede playing for a contract LF: Fields CF: ? RF: Dye That doesn't make my eyes bleed at least, but we still have 2 glaring holes we need to figure something out about. Better than I thought we'd be at this point looking towards 2008 though, I like our pitching still. I don't mind this extension either, 2 years for JD at 11 million is worth it if he can be a 30 homer guy the next 2 years and hit .270, and I think he can. And what Rowand said about eating his words about not trading Dye, I echo those sentiments. Not a bad signing at all, just move him to LF and deal with Sweeney's growing pains in RF, even though hes been disappointing this season. I agree, i'd like to see the sox move Garland to the Dodgers in the Offseaon for Furcal and Abreu or Meloan. Hu is ready to step into SS for them and they need another starting pitching Furcal is having a down year on a sore ankel but hes a good bet to bounce back. Move Crede to the Giants or Padres. Feel out the rest of the season on Jose let him build up that trade value. Sign one of Rowand/Hunter/Jones/Fukodome, or trade for Crisp/Ellsburry. SS S Furcal 2B L Richar DH L Thome 1B R Konerko LF R Dye C L AJP CF R Rowand 3B R Fields RF L Sweeney If the right moves are made i could see us in contention next season; Bull Pens are so volatile in nature so if we get a semblance of one with our Starting pitching remaining constant or regressing a bit its defiantly possible.

personally i love dexter; for fans of the show two episodes of season two leaked onto the internet.

These are the realistic moves i could see the sox making. Garland to the dodgers for Furcal and Tony Abreu. Furcal is having a down year and isn't worth 13mil maybe 7-9 tops. Furcal fills the speedy lead off hitter and has great defense at SS, we bite the bullet on the contract, possibly even extend him around the ASB. Abreu has worn out his welcome with the dodger FO seeing how his agent is none other than Boras. Abreu adds depth and talent incase Furcal leaves, or Richar doesn't pan out. that excerpt was taken from ladugout.com Chin Lung-Hu is ready to step into SS next season and the dodgers have 2B depth with Young who formally played 2B and DeWitt aside from Kent activating his 2008 option; its guaranteed with 550 plate appearances in 2007.

I'd trade broadway before sisco 10outa10 times. LHP > RHP. Sisco has a higher upside than lance and i believe hes younger by a bit. Ideally we can package lance and jose and a bit of Cash for a decent SS and live BP arm.

Personally i'd like to see jenks moved in the offseason to the D-Rays. Whats that you say D-Rays?1?!!?! Yes the d-rays, they've got the best farm system and players at positions we need & with the moves made this deadline they should be ready to finally step out of the cellar and possibly contend provided Andrew Friedman makes a few more moves this offseason. lets take a quick look at their 25 man, their is one glaring hole and that is C and possibly that might not even be an issue if Riggans can produce at replacement level; but other than that they're stacked. DH - Gomes (.265/.330/.508 +/-? on the cheap) C - Dioner Navarro / Shawn Riggans 1B - Pena even if he regresses to a .260-30-100 guy in 2008 thats nothing to scoff at esp with his defense an price tag. 2B - Iwamura putting him at second just makes him that much stronger and his defense won't go by the wayside. SS - Harris looks to be a late bloomer 3B - Longoria should be getting a cup of coffee this sept and should take over at 3b on opening day. LF - Crawford(awesome) CF - Upton(awesomer) RF - Young(awesome but not nearly as much as the other two) SP - Kazmir SP - Shields SP - Jason Hammel SP - Sonnanstine SP - ? They just need one of the following to pan out (Davis, Niemann, Talbot, *Price) thats just a few names they've got a ton in their farm system. If they can get the back end of their pen looking like this MR - Whealer SU - Reyes CL - Jenks They're in good shape. and if they can get .30 on the dollar for dukes or baldelli they should make the move. In return for giving them jenks i would want the following coming back. SS Reid Brignac AA, OF Fernando Perez AA, LHP Jacob McGee A+, OF Desmond Jennings A

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 11:10 PM) The size does concern me a bit, but not in the immediate future but more so when he reaches 30 or so. I could see Gio having a very good run of about 5-6 years until his body starts to wear down and he begins to lose velocity on his fastball. which is a legit concern, but i'm only worrying about the first 6 years. I feel people on milb board's often tend to think of their top prospects as franchise players. that just isn't the case, it rarely happens, i just hope they're productive for the first 6 after that if they're not on the south side i could care less.
