  1. Flowers IS responsible for that home run. Good for him. He is a lousy #1 catcher, but a good back up.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 02:54 PM) It was broken in the Cub game, too. His velocity was sub-90 the entire game So without the broken rib, his ERA is below 3.00 this year.
  3. People talk about his ERA being high, you throw out the game he tried to pitch with a broken rib and its about 3.50. You throw out the game before that when the Cubs lit him up and he may have been injured, it's under 3.00.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) So there are more scouts in attendance than there are Sox fans? Don't say that at WSI. One of their mods responded to a David Shuester tweet saying the same thing ripping about his career. Shuester told him to go scratch using some profane words. The mod then took it to Shuester's boss trying to get him in trouble.
  5. Yeah. Buehrle never shook off AJ (although he has been having problems with the Toronto catchers), but ultimately, pitch selection is on the pitcher.
  6. It is a day game after a night game, but I think Peavy is the real reason Flowers is playing.
  7. Well you would be crazy to think Flowers has much of a chance vs. Verlander especially when he only now bats sporatically.
  8. Maybe the Tigers bag this game to try to facilitate Peavy leaving the divison.
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 01:38 PM) If Peavy pitches well get him out after 5 or 6 innings max. The way this season is going, he'll probably have a 2 hitter with 2 outs in the 6th, someone will hit a weak chopper to first and Peavy will sprain his ankle covering first. Although, if they are intending to compete next year, I'd rather they keep him. It does seem like they are going to trade him so maximize that value.
  10. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 12:13 PM) I see your point. What teams in the NL though? Braves? Dodgers? Dbacks? Rogers did say if he was healthy the Braves was a done deal. Maybe they do it anyway. If they think it's reasonable he will be healthy a week after the deadline, I would assume his price tag shouldn't drop too much. You can think of it as he had another week of rest. I don't think he was going to bring back much more than a lottery ticket anyway. I think he still might, before the deadline.
  11. Actually, this really isn't all that bad assuming he doesn't have anything that will keep him out the rest of the season. NL teams know he will not be available to them after the deadline because he won't clear so they may give up something useful. And the teams that are on top in the AL may as well knowing that someone below them could claim him, he could be totally healthy and the White Sox would have zero reason not to just let him go as a salary dump for nothing at that point.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) Maybe it was just a black guy in a suit It may explain the Sox lack of success with prospects.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 11:02 AM) People on Twitter are saying Kenny Williams has been spotted in Altoona, PA. Too bad the Altoona Curve are in the middle of a 10-day road trip. Maybe Altoona is nice this time of year.
  14. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 11:04 AM) He would have to pass a physical, right? Not always. I'm sure if someone is trading for him, they will want to see the latest the Sox have, and it obviously is pretty recent, but he was touching 94 on Sunday which I doubt he could do if his rib was still broken.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 03:49 PM) How are you defining "Marquee"? Carlton Fisk Albert Belle Adam Dunn That's 3 big money guys right there. Do we go down the list to Dye as well? Fisk was 32 years ago. Belle was 16 years ago.
  16. Hawk talking about the Sox messing with Cameron. Bevington was the manager. Hriniak the hitting coach.
  17. I don't know if Phegley ultimately pans out, but at the very least, we don't have to watch Tyler Flowers try to hit on a daily basis anymore.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 07:56 PM) Why would Sox do that? If it was a 3 way trade, the Sox would get better prospects.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 07:44 PM) Teams can just review film from last year's 2nd half to see how he responded to a pennant race. If a team doesn't want him because of his energy, they probably weren't ever serious about him. Awful in August, great in September.
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 07:44 PM) Heyman said Rios has a good reputation around the league...so I would throw that report out the window We will find out in the next week.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 07:36 PM) If I was a scout, I wouldn't care about Rios' energy in a meaningless game. You'd have to hope that being in a pennant race and the chance to make the postseason for the first time in his career would be enough motivation. Maybe, but you aren't going to give up anything of significance to find out, and that is what matters for the Sox.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) What's the delay? Trade Rios and trade him ASAP. Get what you can for him. Danny Knobbler tweeted scouts say Rios is playing with zero energy.
  23. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 04:19 PM) Could be they are just trying to bridge the gap this season until Feliz and Harrison are healthy and didn't want anything on the books next year. If that's the case, they could always turn around and deal Peavy in the winter.
  24. It might not been a straight up trade. They might have wanted the Sox to eat a ton of money. It might be Hahn is reluctant to trade Alexei because the Sox don't have another SS and good ones aren't easy to acquire. Just ask everyone's model franchise, the Cardinals.
  25. Hawk mentioning the fans would understand trading a couple of guys and playing for 2015 pretty much makes it official what the plan is.
