Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 5, 2011 -> 07:04 PM) The Royals and Pirates are under fairly new regime. The Orioles are just terrible from top-to-bottom. The Sox tried it a certain way. Now they've become the Cubs. So you're saying get awful as soon as you can, and maybe 2 or 3 or 4 regimes later, get good again. One problem with this theory, if the Sox are awful for any length of time, they aren't going to be able to afford keeping their good players and the cycle of dealing good players for prospects becomes endless.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 5, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) So let's go the same failed route of the last six years because a few fans might not show up (you know, the park was f***ing booming last August/September) if they can't see Mark's 86 MPH FB every fifth day. So you chose the failed route of the KC Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles. All three at one time were considered model franchises. I just don't see what's gained by not signing Buehrle unless you are in JR's will. More payroll flexibility? If what appears to be their plan comes to fruition, payroll isn't going to be an issue. Draft picks? I am under the impression the Sox won't get one for him. Might as well keep him around. It also appears some posters may not want the Sox to get very good prospects for their other players for fear they might help the Sox win some games. That would be awful. Lose all you can. That's the way to build a winner. Actually, in the NBA it probably is.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 5, 2011 -> 06:38 PM) You call that rock-bottom? I'd hate to see what adjectives you use to describe what's been going on in KC & Pittsburgh the last 25 years, or the last 10 in Baltimore. Funny, each of those franchises have been lauded the past few years for all of their prospects. I don't know what people are smoking when they think the Sox can dump all their good players, pick up other teams' prospects draft some studs and be fine in 3 years. There is nothing to suggest the White Sox even know how to develop players and have been average at best identifying young talent the last decade.

Sox Winter Meetings thread
QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 5, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) He seems older than he is and isn't the quickest or nimblest guy out there. I'd be surprised if they got much for him. Some said that 2 or 3 years ago. He's a better hitter now than he was in his 20s. He's slow as can be, but he's always been slow, and he's only owed money for 2 years. With steroids and greenies in far less use, and now testing for HGH albeit small and no tests during the season, a clean guy with Konerko's numbers don't grow on trees anymore.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 5, 2011 -> 06:17 PM) How much trade value does Konerko really have? .300 average 30 homers .900 ops, stand up guy, 2 years $24 million left on the contract, I would imagine pretty much.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 5, 2011 -> 06:19 PM) Outside of a 30 game stretch in 2010, one could argue the last three years have been rock-bottom. And the chances of Mark being traded IF he resigns with the Sox are zero. And whats the difference if he stays a White Sox or goes somewhere else? Its not like they are getting the top pick next June letting him go. One thing I've noticed about guys who can't get traded because of no trade protection and are on teams that aren't good.............they seemed to get traded. Either Buerhle helps the Sox win some games the next few years or the team really sucks and they find another place for him to go. Its not like they are gaining anything but increasing JR's bank account by letting him go.

NEWSFLASH: Ex-Sox Santo elected to Hall of Fame
I don't know if Santo should be a HOFer or not, although my dad who doesn't care for anything Cubs and saw him play his entire career says he is, the bottom line is if these are the same guys who didn't vote for him earlier (again I don't know maybe its an entire crew) now vote for him, shame on them. I posted it the last time he was eligible, it was obvious he would eventually get in, they should have let him in while he was alive to enjoy it, whether you like him personally or not.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
Why do so many want the Sox to hit rock bottom? Why can't they sign Buehrle and rebuild. JR isn't going broke, the payroll apparently won't be an issue for a few years. Maybe the Cardinals in 6 months to a year need a starter. The Sox could deal him and gain what so many here like better than actual major league players...................prospects. Chances of most of the prospects the Sox will be trading for and the players the Sox draft the next few years panning out like the last real rebuild, McDowell, Thomas, Ventura, Fernandez are very slim. They have to try to do both, win and build.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) More Marlins buzz.... http://www.csnchicago.com/blog/sox-drawer/...&feedID=665 They have to give him a no-trade. Garfien doesn't understand that if Buehrle came back to the Sox, he wouldn't need a no trade clause. Its automatic as a 5 and 10 guy.

Sox rolling dice in Rule 5
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) I was trying to tippy-toe around talking about his actual play on the field (more to the point: at the plate) which I believe sucks. I don't really care about a guys character if he can’t play ball, but Danks was just a surprisingly cool guy. I wish him the best wherever he lands. Its nice that he's a good guy. It definitely beats the alternative. Too bad it appears he will have to make his living doing something other than playing baseball.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) Jordan Danks is a solid guy. If he is taken then, i will miss talking to him come spring. My next door neighbor is a solid guy but I wouldn't want him eating up a White Sox roster spot.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 12:38 PM) Hanie has started far too many drives behind the 10 yard line because of Hesters decisions. Cutler too That's true, but watching Hanie today makes me think McNabb is a Bear tomorrow.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) the combination of Hanie and Hesters inexplicable return slump have given the bears hideous field position in the past 2 games. Hester has to catch the ball. If its a FC, fine, but he lets too many hit the turf and bounce deep into Bears' territory. He'll probably run one back later and all will be forgiven.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) cst_Cowley @cst_Cowley cst_Cowley Just heard the latest on the Buehrle front from a source. Three teams have the money and the three years on the table. @cst_Cowley cst_Cowley As I reported Thursday, Buehrle wants a no-trade, and that is still yet to be met. Two of the teams are close to changing that stance. He also mentioned a "mystery" 4th team. Hey Joe, you haven't named the teams, they all are mysteries.

Sox rolling dice in Rule 5
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) He was a 7th round pick because his agent on day 1 was Scott Boras and although he probably belonged as a 2nd round pick, no one wanted to deal with a Boras holdout and first round signing bonus demand for him. The real worry going in was that the White Sox would pick him in round 1 with the 8th pick because he didn't belong nearly that high, but he was a solid 2nd round talent that the Sox got by going over-slot in the 7th. If he was a second round talent, surely some team with a decent working relationship with Boras would have snapped him up before round 7.

Sox rolling dice in Rule 5
QUOTE (Disco72 @ Dec 3, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) The first part (power vs K's) is true, and the second part (he's not a good player/prospect right now) is also true. However, the third part (that his attention is due to his brother) just isn't true. Jordan was well thought of at the time of the draft, and most people thought the power would come. His defense certainly progressed as advertised, but the power never really developed. He also never could make enough contact to be a major league hitter. These things happen all the time with prospects, but he wasn't some no-name prospect that people only got excited about because of his brother (ok, maybe SOME people did that, but he was a legitimately interesting prospect in his own right). He wasn't as well thought of as you think after all he was a 7th round pick, if his name was Jordan Guillen, that would have caused a huge problem. Right now, if his name was Jordan Smith and he performed the same, no one would even notice he was left unprotected. I really doubt anyone takes him. The only 7th round pick by the White Sox who actually broke into the majors with the club since the draft began is Matt Merullo. Only 6 White Sox 7th round draft picks have played major league baseball. The only 2 who have accomplished anything both didn't sign, Warren Cromartie and Willie McGee. Jordan Danks would be beating the odds just to have a cup of coffee with the White Sox.
