  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 05:49 PM) So this is presuming that Manny was placed on waivers sometime Monday morning/afternoon? Who knows. Maybe KW is working something out now so if he did claim him he wouldn't be liable for the entire balance of the contract. As far as I know, there are no rules against talking trade about guys not eligible to be dealt yet, but I suppose there could be. It also may be exactly as you presume. He's been on waivers for a day or 2.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) Honestly, anybody against it loses all rights to say a thing about Mark Kotsay and Andruw Jones. Why would that be? Also whats the guarantee that Manny is going to be very effective in September? He's 0-7 with 3 ks since coming back. Last Sept. he hit .218 and I would imagine since his right leg has landed him on the DL 3 times this season, there's probably a good chance he's going to be missing some games when he gets here. That's $4 million that could've and should've been spent last offseason. Also there was a rumor going around the Sox claimed Trevor Hoffman on waivers. I don't know if its true, in fact, its probably not, but if true, they would pay Hoffman more for 1 month than DJ Carrasco would have cost for the entire season.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 11:48 PM) KW and Ozzie upset with each other again? Haugh was trying to explain KW's side of the story, but meanwhile, he made it look like Ozzie was upset with KW. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...4,0,5312.column Someone should forward this quote to Oney and his cabana boy Cowley: "In this case, I sent multiple texts saying, 'Hey is there something we need to do here (with the bullpen)?' And Ozzie and Coop each said, 'No let's ride it out,''' Williams said
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 08:41 PM) Also, the Manny mania would pay for his salary and then some from the tickets, jersey sales, etc. No way
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 08:04 PM) Simple question: Am I the only one that thinks spending 4 million on Manny would be an absolute waste of money? That would be my stance as well. Maybe if they would have spent that $4 million in January or February or March they wouldn't need any help now.
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) Don't really know what Thome has to do with all this considering he's not on this team and Manny would be mainly be replacing the sub .700 OPS, .300 wOBA Mark Kotsay but Manny's last 1000 AL PA: .297/.392/.508/.901. Hardly an argument against acquiring him. And those numbers were on the juice. I'm just pointing out a month of that production most likely won't be worth the $4 million plus they would have to pay him. There's a decent chance if Manny comes to the Sox, it won't go much better than Ken Griffey Jr. I wouldn't be surprised if he wound up on the DL. Also, it appears at least a few people think he's a savior. He hasn't been the same player since his bust.
  7. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 06:51 PM) My favorite quote in that article was "listen, im a byproduct of someone giving me a second chance. . " It sounds like KW isn't afraid of that PED cloud hanging over his head. I love the White Sox motto: Forgive, Forget and Move On. I can't wait to see Manny in a Sox uniform! I hope an NL team claims him. As was stated earlier, this is very much the opposite of the way KW does business. It almost makes me think its strictly a PR move for the Sox hoping an NL team claims him or someone in front of them in line and then they can always say, we tried to get him. I just don't think Manny is going to earn that $4 million plus the next month. Last Sept. he hit .218. His last 1000 American League ABs his numbers aren't much better, if they are really even better, than Thome's. Maybe it will light a spark, but oft-injured 38 year olds off the juice rarely earn $4 million in a month.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 11:49 PM) Acquiring Manny will propel them to the offseason, but thats about it. Adding Threets and a few other bullpen arms will help come September. I know I'm in the vast minority but I don't see where acquiring a 38 year old juicer who has been hurt most of the year would be all that beneficial to the White Sox unless KW also has a time machine. Of course that has never stopped him before.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 10:00 PM) Isn't he the guy who got fired. Oney is just trying to get even, right? When the Sox win, Oney tweets about Ozzie's genius. When they lose, its always about KW not getting the job done. Yesterday he said Edwin Jackson would pitch game 2 and he knew what he was talking about, especially baseball. Turns out he was dead wrong, but really didn't comment on his error. He's a Guillen, that's for sure.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) So let me get this correct, Ozzie's son is basically hinting that Kenny Williams is cheating on his wife? In today's world, "female friend" does not mean it's a plutonic r'ship. There was something in the Sun Times last year that said KW was out somewhere with Marion Brooks of Channel 5. KW might be separated or divorced or just a player. There was some pictures floating around the internet a couple of years ago of KW on a boat with some lovely bikini-clad young ladies that weren't much older than his kids. Buy Oney is just being an ass anyway. Who would think of twittering crap about their father's boss except some spoiled rotten brat who still lives with his parents?
  11. QUOTE (BearingPro @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 08:51 PM) Poor Ozzie...he's all upset...how the f*** does he think we feel watching these bubbleheads day after day???? Ozzie is Upset If he doesn't like it he should go watch some other f***ing team.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) You don't want to wind up where the Rays/White Sox are this year on the DH spot though where they're pulling out random, nearly washed up people from minor league deals to fill their DH slot. It'd be nice to have a tryout first. Hawpe is a random nearly washed up person. The dude is being released while owed a decent amount of cash. Spring training is the time for "tryouts" not during a pennant race.
  13. Even if Minnesota wins tonight, the Sox are only 5 back. I think if it gets to 7 or 8 its OVA, and we can all say the Sox would have won the WS if Joe West didn't umpire any of their games, but really, the Sox have only themselves to blame for the predicament they are in. As I stated before, the 2 losses to Minnesota when the Sox had the lead in the Twins final AB cost them 4 games in the standings. I think Hawk said today in the last week or so, the Sox have blown 5 games when they had the lead in the 7th or later. That's not on Joe West. That's not because Edwin Jackson misses a start. That's because the Sox blew it. They obviously showed they weren't as awful as they looked the first couple months, and they simply couldn't be as good as they were when they had a 26-5 stretch. I believe they are below .500 vs. AL teams. Face it, especially without Peavy, and if Thornton and Putz are hindered, they aren't exactly elite. All that said, maybe they get on another role. I believe my playoff money is due Sept. 7. As of now, I am paying it. Hopefully that won't change in the next 2 weeks. They do have a tough schedule, but ARod is now on the DL. Boston is having a hard time fielding a full team. They are catching breaks. They have to win at least 2 at home vs. MN, and have to beat the crap out of Det, Cleve and KC from here on out. They are games on paper they should win.
  14. Someone needs to tell Hawk the Sox won the make up game. There was no guarantee Jackson would have won.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) If it's any consolation, the Royals announcer LeFebre has brutalized West all weekend as well. It's not just Hawk. If you want to try a good announcer, check out the Royals' Bob Davis today. He's good. I actually like Hawk. When its just about baseball, I think he's as good as anyone. Unfortunately he truly believes every umpire has it out for the Sox.
  16. Its official, if the White Sox don't win the WS, its not the lack of Jim Thome, its not Peavy getting hurt, its not AJ not hitting or Quentin hitting .230, its not Kotsay, its not the pitching staff's April and May, it all because of Joe West. Hawk has Frank taking shots at him now. This telecast is beyond nausiating.
  17. One thing is for certain, the pitch Hawk wanted Kendall called out for swinging, if they said a White Sox went on that, he would b**** that it wasn't close.
  18. QUOTE (T R U @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) I hope AJ is gone, ide rather see Flowers up here next season.. You must enjoy White Sox striking out.
  19. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) Ozzie said he was told by a KC clubhouse guy that they had a one hour window to play before the rain would come. Ozzie said one hour can be two innings or five innings you just don't know. If West had different information (a 15 minute window), then he is totally at fault for starting the game when he knew it would be rained out. One hour is probably about 3 innings, and you can stall. Remember, Ozzie is the guy who popped off during the 2005 WS that he was an inning away from putting a position player in to pitch during game 3. He probably was full of s***, but blaming the umpire is ridiculous. Even if he just went by the info he says he had, he was willing to lose Jackson after 2 or 3 innings, which isn't even an official game. I'm not arguing if it was wrong to start the game. Obviously it was. Blaming West and having Hawk say about 10 times, AFTER saying the Sox would win the Central, say West's call could be the deciding factor in the race, is ridiculous. Don't stoop down to West's level. The Sox had the same info he did. They are just as responsible for losing Jackson as anyone. If the game went 5, it was official. If that's what West had, I don't see why he would be at fault.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) Thornton is shut down for a while. http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/2010/08...d_-_thornt.html I knew I wasn't seeing things when it appeared he was a little lame after throwing a pitch last week. Hopefully nothing too bothersome. If its been an ongoing issue, it really makes you wonder why they extended him in Minneapolis.
  21. QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) By that logic, the Sox should have stayed the hell away from Rios. Despite being bad, Hawpe's numbers this season are decidedly better than Kotsay/Jones. First off, how much did Alex Rios help the White Sox last season? Oh yeah, not at all. His numbers aren't decidedly better, .211 avg. .577 OPS away from Coors Field, plus he'd be changing leagues.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 09:37 AM) [/b] There is about zero chance of that happening. When is the last time that Ozzie got a ton of praise for anything he did right? Not to mention, if we are talking about a move that no one has ever done before, that makes it literally an impossible standard. However, the Sox telecast and announcer shouldn't be zeroing in on Joe West saying he might have cost them a trip to the playoffs. Hawk said West was told they would be able to play for 15 minutes. If that is true, then I'm sure the White Sox had the same information. If it was such a lock to pour for 2 hours or so, why bother warming your guy up if you are just going to lose him? I'm glad the Sox won game 2, now they can't blame West, who is an ass without question. But don't blame him if you have the same information he had. Again, Jackson didn't have his command early, for all we know this was a blessing as they ultimately won the make up game.
  23. QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) Hawpe's career OPS+ is 116 and this has been his only "bad" season since '05. He would be an excellent fit as a DH and an occasional 1B because his numbers are better than Kotsay's across the board and his avg. is far better than Jones. So the Sox should go by what he's done in the past, not this season? There's a reason he's being released. Pass.
  24. Castro was very popular with Mets fans asking he be played more. It turns into a disaster. He's a fine back up and has accepted that role. Maybe he gets a little more playing time if AJ comes back, but making him a regular would likely leave you dissappointed in the results.
  25. I hope the Sox don't bring in Manny. Cheating prima donna is what he is. If anyone really think he's going to make himself a ton of money by actually trying in September, I think you couldn't be more wrong. The teams that overpay ridiculously have seen the act. I think even Manny knows this. He's 38, can still hit, but who knows if he really will feel like playing, probably off the juice, 3 times on the DL this year. Very unreliable at this point. His days of putting up the numbers he put up when he jaked his way out of Boston to LA are ova. In fact, Thome's numbers are better this year IMO, and Ozzie already said the Sox couldn't win with Thome.
