  1. The White Sox make the playoffs for the first time in 12 years, and fire their manager for the first time in 17, and their pitching coach for the first time in longer than that. Who could ever have thought of this being a possibility? This is the same owner than wanted to keep Jim Boylen around. Ozzie didn't get fired. Robin didn't get fired. This is probably one of the most remarkable days in White Sox history.
  2. Coop's probably had more power as the pitching coach than any other pitching coach. So if they are bringing in someone from outside, with championship experience, not having full control over his department might make them look for a job somewhere else.
  3. Looking back, you probably have to figure Ricky was in trouble once Steve Stone started criticizing him. Stoney obviously knew something. Then Ozzie did it, although he was a bit more restrained. The Big Hurt blasted him. So you have all that, it was probably a pretty good sign. When our Chuck got involved, it was a done deal.
  4. Hopefully he stays alright, but IMO, there is still reason to be concerned. I wonder if he could hold up an entire season.
  5. It could only be Hinch or Cora. Hinch wasn't as bad of a cheater than Cora, but he should have stopped it. Cora was a ringleader. Supposedly, Hinch does speak a little Spanish.
  6. So it looks like the Sox will also be "mutually parting ways" with EE and Mazara.
  7. The weird thing was if no one asked about the current coaching staff, It didn't appear RH would have even mentioned Coop was gone. Considering how long he has been with the team and how many managers he coached under, you would think he would have had higher billing.
  8. It is pretty obvious these guys are gone because of the bullpen the last week. RR made some bad decisions and Coop was either on board or didn't speak up.
  9. I think Rick basically just said Hinch or Cora have to be the favorites.
  10. That's true. Jimmy Cordero just saw his 2021 appearances cut in half if he is even on the team.
  11. As far as Sandy, he does have a body of work where the Sox can see how he runs a bullpen, and since he was a catcher, he should have a pretty good idea of what is proper and what is just stupid.
  12. I think it was just a nice way of saying the potential manager of the year has been fired. JR will pay him his money. He didn't make so much. It's either that or the Sox said for him to continue, someone else will be running the bullpen, and he didn't want that.
  13. As I have been saying for years, his bullpen management was always questionable at best, dating back to the Cubs days. As far as running the game goes, it's probably the biggest part of the job. The other stuff, he was really good. The players seemed to love him, but Rodon with the bases loaded for the first time in 2 months. Ruiz in a big time situation, and then get someone loose the first hit your starter gives up in game 3? I thought winning as many games as they did was probably enough to overcome it, but things are changing. The thing I don't understand is this is nothing new. Why now?
  14. You are probably right. When have the Sox given their new manager much leeway with their coaching staff? Looks like now they will.
  15. There will be some celebrating, but what comes next is the question. Is it Super Joe? I would think the Sox aren't going to bring in a big name, but firing Ricky after making the playoffs I would have put at 10,000 to 1, so all bets are off.
  16. I never was a RR guy, but to do this now seems almost unfair. You knew what he was.
  17. He would only be breaking his own record. He is a master at it. I swear, I know it is going to happen, and when he is done, I think I just learned a shitload. Then about 15 minutes later, I realize what he told me everyone already knew.
  18. But that was a different circumstance. They weren't a playoff bound team. I am not too upset he kept EE in the middle of the line up. He was a veteran with a history of big numbers, and a history of slow starts. A lot of big names had really bad years in this shortened season. He just never got out of it. It is as if the season ended June 1 of a normal year. Whether he is done, or just went through a rough patch, no one really knows, but it didn't get better making his fate easily decided. What would have been interesting is if he had monster numbers, then what do they do with Vaughn waiting in the wings?
  19. I agree. Would there be coaching staff changes? Who are you going to can after 2020? Maybe Coop retires, that's it, and why retire when things are just about to go really well. I think RR has better job security than anyone posting on this board who isn't self employed. Besides, if it was a big change, chances are it would have leaked by now.
