Sox trade rights to Welington Castillo to rangers
Dick Allen replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The money will be spent. For a team that gets so defensive when they are thought to be cheap, they sure seem to go out of their way to make many feel that way. -

That is apparently what they determined. I think they gave up $1 million for Jones, $250k here. There was no one worth signing with the $1.25 million. I am guessing 5 or 6 years from now, some name or names will emerge that will make their determination incorrect. And it's the optics. Is it really worth the buyout for all the negative publicity they are going to take? It's not like $500k is going to be a difference maker for an MLB team. -

Jon Jay gets $4 million and this team can't use their pool money to sign players . Instead trading it for financial savings. If money is so tight dont blow it on what you blow it on. In the end this probably makes no difference because they weren't going to sign anyone. But why is a left question. It seems after Hahn broke out his checklist for everyone and he was able to check the take a penalty internationally box, they have become even more conservative in that area. Almost a been there done that time to move along thing. -

I am guessing it was the Rangers as they already knew the White Sox are always game for anything that makes the checking account balance a little bigger. -
Yes, unless facing fewer ends an inning.

Fire Boylen. It was a joke they brought him back. If they think they are a legit playoff team, they aren’t playing like one. -
The problem is his terrible defense is only getting worse, and he is 32. A NL totem signs him, they don’t want him in the field as a34 or 35 year old.

Wasn't one of the reasons DD got whacked the RedSox had become a miserable place to be from the executive offices to the clubhouse? Maybe he would want to get away, but maybe not. With his limited market and QO, is opting out worth the risk? If a couple big spending teams needed a DH, I would say definitely, but besides the White Sox, where else is he going to go?
-
I think there was a bit of both. I know everyone hates David Kaplan and he's a Cubbie guy, but he was telling a story a couple of weeks ago how he was talking to Jeff Passan right before Manny signed, and Passan told him the White Sox weren't even close. He knew how they were $50 million short. He wasn't fake surprised when he took more money. He didn't try to spin how their's was the far better offer, but they couldn't afford the one they said was inferior.

Plus I think he can opt out again next year . Positionally challenged, opting out is not a given especially if his market doesn’t include Boston or the Yankees or NL teams.

Porter is playing with a hip problem.LaVine hit a 3 and I thought this might be different, but he was back to sucking at close out time. It’s an ongoing issue. At least they don’t have 5 guys injured yet. -
When the team actually starts winning, I will give Rick Hahn his proper due for building it. Until then, his reign has been an absolute mess.

Yes, a Boston radio guy I believe is the source. What is even more interesting is later in his article he went through the Sale trade, and supposedly the White Sox were offered Lopez, Giolito and Robles for Sale, but wanted Trea Turner added. He also mentioned the Sox were trying to add Devers to the Boston deal, but that didn't happen.

Why are the Bears playing for a 50 yard FG?

Plus MLB has a partnership with Stubhub. The team gets a little bit of the re sale, and they get someone in the gate. So even if it is sold at a huge discount, there is a very real possibility the person buying the ticket may not go for full price. This eliminates some no shows, and gets people to buy parking and concessions and souvenirs.

He kind of like a taller, faster, better ball handling Ben Gordon. That will work. -
Steve Stone not returning to the booth next season???
Dick Allen replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I agree. Since he has no contract there is always a slight chance, but he is not married, he has no kids or grandchildren, he likes Benetton and the White Sox, and if he had no job, he would watch baseball anyway. -

Defense still horrible. Lavine didn’t have a very good game, and struggled with the close out which has been an issue. For him to become a star, the end of games is something he needs to improve. At least they were easier to watch, but this team is going to be mediocre for a long while unless something really unexpected happens.. -
I think there will be some money spent. I don’t think it will be as much as many think. But I think we will be at the point next year where if everything goes right, the team should be better. Whether that happens, probably unlikely. I read an article where the Sox had the 3rd worst local TV ratings in 2019 in baseball. Only Miami and some other godawful team were worse. They better start winning soon.
-
Normally you might have a point, but 7 runs? That is less than 2 a quarter, and the first one was a receiver who fumbled. It wasn't like the game was a blowout from the start. It was a pretty close game for a half. Even if you average 2 yards a carry, it beats up the defense, and eats clock which will rest yours.
-
This is probably a lost season, although I think they were 3-3 last year. But their offense hasn't been this bad since Bob Avelini. Chances that it turns around when the head coach admits he has no answers is very doubtful. I just hope the Bears dont stick with Mitch like they did with Cutler, way past the time it was obvious things aren't going to ever be good enough.
-
When he was drafted his accuracy was lauded. 3rd year and it seems it was never above average and getting worse. Last year we were told wait until he gets the entire playbook and masters the offense. They put up 3 points vs GB and determine Mitch has has to grasp too much and were cutting down. Forget the bad throws. Could it be that mentally he isn't an NFL QB?
-
If it makes the team better I am fine. He broke no laws. Whether you agree or disagree with his view is supposed to be irrelevant .
-
2 or 3 times yesterday when he normally would take off. He drove and threw. I am not blaming him, but if he can't scramble and do something with his legs, his badness is magnified.
-
His scrambling ability is almost non existent right now as it was clear yesterday he was very worried about taking a hit to the left shoulder
