  1. And they also loved Sammy Sosa blowing kisses and hopping around, but this board did not. I am pretty sure if Merrifield would have done what Anderson did, and Burr hit him on the ass his next AB, there would be a totally different take here. Just remember, as much as we love what Anderson did, when it happens on the other side, there is no reason to be pissed off.
  2. Coppock on Sports in the late 80s on WMAQ featuring "Dangerous" Dan McNeil was, IMO, the greatest sports talk show of all time. Heavy on guests, like on meathead callers. I actually went to a thing a library was sponsoring last year when his book came out, and he spoke for a couple of hours. He was a lot of fun. Corny as hell,, but I like corny.
  3. One thing to keep in mind, they did hit Anderson in the ass. If you are going to hit a guy, that is the classiest place to hit him. If they hit him anywhere else, there could have been big trouble.
  4. I would probably be more old school than not, but I don't mind emotion in the game. I get the act like you've been there. That's fine and works for guys like Harold Baines. But watch a little league game. Those guys are thrilled when they do something good. All the way through college, there is a lot of emotion. I do think the reaction to tying a game against the lowly Royals in the middle of April probably was a bit much, but they can have a crazy celebration if they strike him out. There is a time and place for celebrating. A halfback getting a first down with 3 minutes to go in a game with his team down 40 points really shouldn't act like a ref and give the first down signal. The guy on the Bears who hurt himself celebrating a sack a couple of years ago while the game was out of hand on the losing side was way overboard. Times have changed. You have to roll with them. When I was in high school, my dad offered me $100 to wave at the ball when I hit a home run. I never did it, but not because I would have been thrown at. That wouldn't have happened. I probably would have caught some flack in the handshake line after the game. I just thought I would be known as a jackass. Bat flips weren't a thing back then. But now, I don't mind them at all when they make at least some sense.
  5. TA was probably a little overboard with his antics after tying an April 17th game up vs the lowly Royals, but so what. Deal with it. If you don’t like it, get him out. And they did hit him in the ass so that is no big deal either. They put the Sox best basrunner on in a tie game. Probably over reaction for both sides, and clearly over reaction from Joe West. Probably no one should have been tossed.
  6. Hawk would be on fire right now. His newfound friendship with Country Joe would be in peril.
  7. Except for Opening Day and the Cubs games, maybe once or twice more a season. The general rule is if they are expecting more than 25k, there is some sort of check happening.
  8. If the Red Sox aren't a juggernaut and the Yankees remain hurt, the AL is kind of like the NBA East. Seattle is playing well right now, but can that last? Tampa looks like a good team, but other than that, who is left other than the Astros? Granted they are beating a beat up Yankees team and a horrid KC team, but most of the schedule is like this. They will probably win more games than I thought.
  9. That's the amazing thing to me. Coop seemed like he was at least 63 years old 15 years ago.
  10. I was watching. He was throwing mostly 94-96, but still getting clobbered. He had given up 11 what are deemed hard hit balls in the middle of the 5th inning.
  11. The White Sox are going to improve a player the Red Sox could not? That's pretty laughable. They all suck, who really cares about any of them?
  12. Kahnle was sent to the minors and came back dealing. How does Coop get credit? It seems anyone who has ever struggled but has a decent stretch owes his career to Coop. Like the same thing doesn't happen all around the league. Isn't making pitchers perform better part of the job description
  13. Probably the greatest organization in the history of sports. Bossard, Herm Schneider, Nancy Faust, were all leftovers from the Bill Veeck days. Would you say he was willing to pay top dollar for everything? I'm also quite sure NBCSC payroll decreased when Hawk left and Jason went full time. And the public address? What do you really think Gene Honda gets paid?
  14. For sure. The amateur scouts on here would rather be right. But they will all be wrong. He went 6 games this year before an extra base hit. Now several have to study each hit to determine if it was legit. You take away every players hits that weren crushed, MLB scores would look like soccer.
  15. So if they play him the same way in th big leagues and he hits it where they aren’t, he will get extra bases. I know people want to be right and have this kid fail, but he is going to disappoint all those who have already deemed him a bust. he went 6 games without an extra base hit,. Frank Thomas has done that.
  16. So if they play him the same way in th big leagues and he hits it where they aren’t, he will get extra bases. I know people want to be tight and have this kid fail, but he is going to disappoint all those who have already deemed him a bust.
  17. For as much as he is hated, McCann has actually played pretty well so far.
  18. Frank Thomas actually mentioned having Robert skip AA and send him to AAA. And Frank is a guy who went from AA to the major leagues.
  19. It would be interesting to see what Leury would do over an entire season if he remained healthy.
  20. At least it looks like Happ can give up some runs. And the Sox should be able to put one or two in the seats.
