  1. QUOTE (captain54 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 11:51 AM) Ricketts is an investment banker specializing in debt management. I'm pretty sure he has things under control The Tribune sold for under $1 billion. Of that, $625 M or so was incurred debt. He had investors jumping on board in 2009. If the debt was a ever a problem they would never have been able to maintain an upper tier payroll It was a problem. He took on a minority partner. Up until then, the Cubs Sun Times beat writer was claiming the banks suggested Ricketts sell the team.
  2. Saying the Cubs do things the right way and expecting the White Sox to copy what they do is just wrong. At their lowest point, they have $100 million more to play with every year than the White Sox. Theo is great, but he is like Phil Jackson. He didn't put himself in a situation where the odds were going to be so stacked against him. A total rebuild is a lot easier when you still draw almost 3 million a year in the lean years.
  3. Robertson had meniscus surgery. Should be fine for spring training.
  4. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 10:05 AM) The "shouldn't your hometown come first" from non-Chicagoans, and people trying to pressure me into hopping on the bandwagon was annoying as f***. God bless those that like them both. I wouldn't have the time or energy to be a fanatic of both. My wife thinks I spend way too much time on the White Sox, although she was pretty giddy when the Tribe tied it up last night. And I post this just about every year, what she tells me about baseball is it is just a bunch of uneducated men in silly costumes running around in dirt trying to hit a ball with a stick.
  5. QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 10:00 AM) I'm really not that upset by this. I think it's a pretty cool thing, mostly cuz I have a lot of friends, I guess. Yes, a lot of them are annoying but whatever. My sister is pretending to be a lifelong Cubs fan right now which is kind of funny. She's alternated between "I like both teams" and not paying attention to baseball at all. The Cubs winning the WS won't change fans' lives, so although this will blow over and Cubs WS swag that cost $30 now will cost $10 in a month or 2, I always loved having the leverage we all just lost over Cubs fans. That's the sad part to me.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 09:30 AM) Not sure if this has been talked about, but this is pretty passive aggressive stuff. https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/794038366400413697 I don't know, it seems universally forgotten by most non White Sox fans. Last night on the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley, they had a feature on the Cubs, showed the Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks, but forgot the Sox. That's at least 4 national outlets that have seem to forgotten. And if they want to go with the ESPN excuse that Cubs fans don't care about the Sox title, then if they care about all these others, they need to stop with the 108 years of suffering crap. Because since the Cavs are the only Cleveland championship since 1965 or so, for most people alive, Cleveland fans should be far more "tortured" than Cubs fans, and should be getting more of the sympathy.
  7. f*** the Cubs. That said, if their winning a title is the worst thing for me this week, I had a pretty good week. As for bandwagon fans with the Cubs, they were already there. I doubt this adds anything to the fanbase. In fact, I really think some of those that were around for the lovable losers might jump off. Their fan base is close to capacity if it isn't there already.
  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 08:03 PM) At least with US Cellular, "The Cell" became an easy nickname. This will probably be called the Rate.
  9. This was set up as another epic collapse, the Trine needed to do something in the 9th. The Cubs got to Kluner, Miller, and Shaw. As Hawk would say, tip your cap.
  10. I don't mind Rizzo, but his putting his hands on his head with the OMG reminds me of actors when they win an Academy Award and go through the "I have nothing prepared, I never thought I would win" phony routine.
  11. Shaw will stay in.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 10:54 PM) Heart of the order coming up. How do the Indians get out of this one If the Tribe can get through this inning unscathed, they are looking good.
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 10:44 PM) "This commercial free break is brought to you by T-Mobile" ...technically correct? I asked the same thing to my wife
  14. Yan Gomes is horrible but Kipnis needs to block that.
  15. He slid into the base, it was a good no call
  16. The dreaded lead off walk.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 10:20 PM) That Gomes at bat was as bad you'll ever see. You suck balls, let him walk you. He sees slider spin, he needs to take. But he apparently couldn't pick it up.
  18. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 10:19 PM) When Davis came up to bat I was telling my gf how terrible of a hitter he is and how theres no chance for him. I kept on going on and on about how bad he is, and then he hits the homer. I was hoping for the same thing with Gomes, but unfortunately he is so bad it can't happen,
  19. Cmon Fox, show Murphys beachers
  20. The Cubs had a 3 run lead in the 8th inning in the Bartman game. I'm just sayin'
  21. Napoli needs to put this in the RC field seats
  22. How did a WS ump miss that?
  23. I have the feeling Napoli is going to put one on the board tonight.
