  1. From a distance (correct me if I'm wrong) it looked like the Bear's job was a bad deal when Fox took it and he helped, along with player's natural development, into a good to great gig for the next guy. Not quite Doug Collins setting the table for Phil Jackson good, but decent nevertheless.
  2. We cut the cable about a year ago Hulu, Netflix, CBS, Amazon Prime, through Roku has been the main go tos. We've picked up Acorn and similar to binge watch certain series then cancel. I only watch a few hours per week so it really hasn't been much of a problem for me, although I haven't found a way to get the Golf Channel which has been a hassle at times.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 04:38 PM) People have the right to do whatever they want. Nobody is saying Colin and the others can't kneel during the anthem. However it doesn't have to be a popular move. Again ... like I said, can the average Joe "protest" while at work? The answer is no. You'd be fired in many lines of work for calling attention to yourself via protest. I support Colin's right to do whatever he wants. I'm saying it's not a great way to protest something in a team sport. You are off on your own island. Why not attack the issue in a more productive way when you are offending military by the method you chose? Also you are protesting on company time so to speak when most people can't lest they be fired? Does the average Joe have the opportunity for this kind of protest? At my work we recite the pledges to America and Texas but I bet I'm one of the few here. It's just not a meaningful comparison. People have the option to counter protest by boycotting the NFL, burning merchandise, etc to eventually force their owners (we need a better word don't we?) to stop the protest. This basically begins the process that you will only have the right to speech that your owner approves of. How's that for freedom? Or every working person can support his right to free speech by NOT demanding the player's owners stop the speech. If you truly care about freedoms, they need to be protected. Monsieur l’abbé, je déteste ce que vous écrivez, mais je donnerai ma vie pour que vous puissiez continuer à écrire or in an easier to understand form I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. The moderators here have used this phrase many, many, times through the years.
  4. Going independent can be scary and exciting with great rewards while inherently riskier. My hat is off to those daring souls who create,
  5. Basically many patriotic Americans demand the same freedoms that the North Koreans, Russians, Chinese, and various dictatorial nations have to show their patriotism. Funny how so many Americans talk with pride about all of our freedoms while demanding that they not be exercised.
  6. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 10:51 AM) Being a silent c**n and learning his place. Come on now man, it's obvious. Please be careful in your wording. Your post can be taken in a couple different ways, including a couple that are against the rules here. Sarcasm should be in green to help some people out.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 1, 2018 -> 10:54 AM) Gonna keep repeating that, huh Those guys are powerless against agents like Boras.
  8. Korean basketball? How did you get interested in Korean basketball?
  9. I'm looking at LED strips for my 22x12 covered patio. I wouldn't do the house side so 46 feet of lighting would be the number. Maybe just the 20 feet or so along the yard side. If I run the lights along the beam the rafters will be in the way. I'm not certain how to get a straight line of lights without cutting the strip every 12 inches or so and going over it. I haven't seena channel where I could surface mount them and I don't like the look against the cedar.
  10. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 31, 2017 -> 09:26 PM) Now most of the announcers are ex players instead of professional announcers. Sign of the times. I always like Enberg, even though he was a young guy. Which does offer some better insights at times. Like I said, I wish there was a better variety.
  11. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 1, 2018 -> 02:52 AM) I didn't mean that she couldn't fend him off, I mean that is was a 10 minute long struggle. That's a LONG time to be jostling with someone. It obviously doesn't change the story/outcome, but it was likely more like 1-3 minutes and potentially exaggerating some details will lead the defense/Sano's team to say she exaggerated other things too. It depends on the how it ramps up to a really heavy physical encounter.
  12. I remember paying $100 per year to belong to a "club" and having the privilege of renting movies from them. Buying a rewinder to avoid the wear and tear on the VHS player. Redbox doesn't compare to wanding the aisles looking for something that was available and finding a hidden gem. I believe one the last, if nmot the last movie I rented from Blockbuster was a recommendation by SS2k5, Clerks.
  13. While that is a nice picture the current reality is coal (dying out), oil, nuclear, and blocking rivers for hydro. I was surprised to learn there are two reactors being built with about twenty more being planned. So while we both will agree that solar and wind is prefered, that may not be reality. Consumers will take cheap electricity being produced any which way when their demands increase.
  14. Not to sound like the old guy who thinks everything new sucks, but as we lose these guys an era in sports is ending. Listening to guys like him, Scully, etc was such a treat. I wish there was more room for a few of those guys instead of the over the top yellers and big time homers.
  15. We use Chromebooks in the classroom. I'm pleasantly surprised how robust they are. I rarely have to send one in for a failure. Actually, so far, none have failed in 18 months of heavy school use. My son gave me a Ducky One keyboard for Christmas to help spur my writing. Wow, it's a throwback to the super solid keyboards of the 1980s. Plus the crazy backlighting affects are mesmerizing.
  16. I was talking with a couple family members who are buying Teslas and it sparked a few thoughts. One, while the car does not pollute, the generation of the electricity to make it run does pollute. This isn't really a 100% win for the environment. The addition of corn into gasoline eventually caused the price of corn to rise. Basically the people who were putting it in their tanks harmed the people who were putting corn in their bellies with higher prices for corn. So what happens when the demand for electricity to power vehicles rises? With increased demand usually comes increased prices. Migt we all be paying higher rates ten or twenty years down the road whether we have electric cars or not. Another issue, much of how we pay to maintain and add roads his by taxes on gas and diesel. If we see a sizable decline in those tax revenues, how will we adapt to fund roads?
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 05:22 PM) Employees voted to unionize last week. This week Joe Ricketts decided the business wasn’t making enough money and closed down, going so far as to immediately scrub the sites from the internet https://www.google.com/amp/nypost.com/2017/...-gothamist/amp/ Ayn Rand would be proud.
  18. Sports franchises operate differently than most other businesses. While they have historically made money for their investors, I agree that the front man in the deal buys them for ego more than the ROI. Which makes sense in light of needing to have amassed a small fortune to be in position to buy one.
  19. My 80 year young mother in law who can Skype with the best of them and isn't totally horrible with technology is looking for a cheap way to call family in Australia, England, and Dubai. I need it to be reasonably simple or cheap. Currently she Skypes all the time but wants the freedom to walk around the house and not be tethered to a computer.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 30, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) At 1:20 there is a great shot of an old Boston Store building and the updated version still showing the ghost sign of "boston store" that I want to go out and find now. I was thinking the same thing. One thing that I like about leaving Chicago is when I come back I do the touristy things that I was "too cool" to do when I live there.
  21. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 06:24 PM) Fly rod huh? I've got the Fishing Network (which I friggin LOVE)...and always thought about trying that...but good lord that looks like a pain! I don't know...maybe in these NW rolling rivers they show...that's the ticket...but just looks like a ton of work. But kudos to you Tex for gettin' on that horse! Saltwater does kick ass btw. One of my favorite things to do it head to San Diego (it's close) during yellow tail season. Any kind of fishing kicks ass IMO. One thing I'm delving in this weekend are some tubes. I've never really used...or tried them...but they make sense. I'm on this site called Wired2Fish...and they have a ton of vids for techniques...and I came across some tube ones last week. So gonna give it a whirl. I'm still getting used to the kayak fishing. It's kind of a pain in the ass...with very limited room. I lost a really nice bass this weekend on a YUM Dinger....got it right up to my yak and it popped off. I stewed for an hour lol... Waiting for the line to load the rod on the backcast was the most difficult thing for me. The delay between a spinning rod or casting rod loading and a fly rod is about 10 to 1.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) It's amazing it's only the 6th cycle in team history. The other amazing thing was last week when the Sox went back to back to start the game, it was only the 3rd time ever they did that. I would have lost a bet on both of those. I would have thought the actual numbers were triple that.
