It's terrible that Tillman was killed, but this is kind of a good-bad thing. For those Americans that don't understand that these are real people with real lives over in Iraq and Afghanistan, it's kind of like a sudden 'whoosh', and just takes their breath away. You don't know how much respect I have for this guy. Turning down $3.6 mill to defend your country...that's turning down being financially set for life to putting your life in danger(and sadly, he was killed). Me and probably around 99.5-99.9% of all the other Americans take the $3.6 mill. I'm not saying I wouldn't defend my country, but that if I had a choice between $3.6 mill and defending my country, I'd take the $3.6 mill. RIP Pat.

Don't we have enough of those? I thought one was enough.

That's the logic I used when I made the Foulke for Koch comparison and how it turned out. But that one does make a little sense too...we still have all 3 players from that deal, and Oakland has lost all 3 players from that deal. New York lost Osuna and they may or may not have Lantigua(I am not sure), and El Duque never threw a pitch for Montreal, while Jeff Liefer was not good for them at all. They only have Rocky Biddle, and he has been very mediocre for them to say the least(he had a 4.50 ERA 1.50 WHIP or so with them last year...that's quite bad for a reliever). We no longer have Colon. Big deal. Kenny(and Cashman and Steinbrenner) took the Expos to the cleaners in that deal.

The reason Wunsch is tradeable is because he can't pitch more then an inning at a time, and we are quite lucky to get that one inning out of him. In his career, he has appeared in 209 games, and has 151.3 innings. That's an average of just over 2/3 of an inning per appearance. I like Kelly, but I can understand why he is available.

Fair enough. There is no wrong answer. I was just honestly curious.

I thought she was talking about Jay Mariotti but everyone knows he already reads this board

I know, I know. Don't kill the messenger. Just making a point.

I understand that fully. It is very hard to give that up. My one final question to you. If we have a shot to win it all this year, but we are potentially one ace pitcher away(RJ/Wells/Schmidt etc, etc, etc), and we have to give up Carlos Lee to do it, even knowing full well what he is capable of...do you trade him? Personally, if I do feel this pitcher puts us over the top and if I absolutely have to give up Lee...I do. I don't give up Lee to get a LH bat(unless that bat is Barry Bonds), I don't give up Lee to get 3 good relievers, and I sure as hell don't give up Lee for prospects. Only to get a starter that will help push us over the top. If Lee gets us Kip Wells or Randy Johnson or Jason Schmidt...it's hard to do it, but I say good bye to Lee.

Yeah, he pretty much hit the s*** out of that ball. There was no doubt about it. But this is off of Mike Mussina, who's fastball right now is at about 88 MPH on a good day.

Can't say I watched him, but from the looks of his stats, it doesn't look like he was too incredibly effective. In his career, he was 31 of 48 for stolen bases, or about a 64.6% steal percentage. Just goes to show that pure speed does NOT steal bases for you. Being able to get good jumps and reading a pitcher is more important in most cases of stealing bases then having pure speed. Paul O'Neill stole 22 bases in his final season somehow, and I can guarantee you that it was not pure speed.

And I thought $2 mill was a waste for this guy. D'oh! To those who are wondering if Scho is this year's Loaiza...I'll guess yes...not quite to the tune of 21-9 2.19 in 226 innings...but maybe 15-10 or if we're lucky 18-10 about 4.00 in 200-210 innings. BTW....Jas was right. He said coming out of ST Scho was looking good. Boy was he right. Good catch Jas!

Ahhh, we do have an oldie-timer who is on the ball. This is correct. Herb Washington played in 105 games in his career and had 0 at-bats.

Valentin should be retained, especially if the team does well. You can get some pretty damn good glovework from Jose. He'll botch a few routine plays now and then, but for the most part, he is solid. He can run the bases like no one's buisness, has pretty damn good power for a SS, hits from the left side of the plate, and is a leader of this team. I think that if Jose is let go, this team will feel the effects of his absence IMMEDIATELY. If we can retain him at $2-3 mill a year, I am all for it. Personally, I would not mind having a 2B-SS combo of Uribe-Valentin for 2-3 years, especially if Uribe can put up .275 10 60 20 .700-.750 OPS for us with solid D up the middle. I like the way Uribe looks at the plate, and honestly, if he can continue to improve, I could see him potentially becoming a .280 20 75 20 .800-.850 type of guy. From a 2Bman, there is not much more you can ask for. He looks real good at the plate.

The Reds can keep Sean Casey. We have a player like Sean Casey in the minors, only probably better, in Jeremy Reed. By lefty bat in the middle of the lineup, I mean we need a serious f***ing threat in the middle of the lineup. Not a 20-25 homer guy. I'm talking big power, around 35-40 homers a year(I'll take 30-35 too) with a .900-.950 OPS at the very least, and, if there is one available, one that can put up a 1.000+ OPS. We could use one very badly.

It must be some good-ish stuff.

Archie Manning said no to SD for Eli
witesoxfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
May I ask what the f*** is so fun about going to a good team and then improving them? If Eli was anything like Peyton, he could go to a s***ty team and within 2-3 years they'd be considered a potential Superbowl team EVERY year, just because of him. Eli is quite the pussy if he really does not want to go to San Diego. Hell, I would rather go to San Diego then New York. Does he know what it is like in December in New Jersey? -
Just imagine what we will do when one player does not kill us, AND we are still 9-6 while playing some tough competition. Had we played like the Twins have the past 2 years against the Yanks, we'd be way below .500. I love the way this team has played, and I love watching the Sox play right now. They are playing baseball the way it is meant to be played.

cw... Your mom took you to the cleaners. That's great.

Not much-ish, though I always thought Iowa was heaven-ish. I suppose-ish that's OK-ish though.

I think this is the official "Let Heads amuse himself thread." Just leave him alone. He'll come back out in a few days.

What a great summary of the post. I give it 4 in a half stars.

Sounds kind of stupid-ish to me. But maybe that's just a Dakota-ish thing. Who really knows-ish?

Please don't tell me I have to explain again! Nah...I'll see if I can dig it up.

That was a sweet double play. I loved every second of it. Let me say this...yay to Uribe, nay to Harris. I know Willie struck out swinging, but I swear, that had to of been the only time he swung the bat all night. When he's not hitting, he is complete s*** at the plate. I think Willie Harris needs to be our Herb Washington(bonus points to whoever can tell me what Herb Washington is famour for without looking it up...this is something our ancient ones should get easily)

Wasn't that in the game that we lost 19-0? And how could everyone forget the immortal James Baldwin
