  1. QUOTE(The Beast @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 01:21 AM) I think that I can live with Owens as our Centerfielder and lead-off hitter. It's better having him than Lofton (starting) or Patterson right now. I think if anything, they should sign a veteran to be on the bench such as Lofton in case Quentin or Owens falter. I would anticipate that the Sox make a run after Garcia, Colon or Fogg for the rotation. It would baffle me if KW decided not to pursue a veteran for the rotation. What non-roster invitees for the bullpen could Merkin be talking about in his article? I'd start Lofton over Owens and then hope you can just trade him later on in the season. I do not, however, see Lofton being signed because of the circumstances he left under.
  2. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 05:13 PM) Derek Anderson is Rex Grossman part 2. I'm not sure why we would give away a 1st and 3rd when we have the same player already on our roster. I'd personally rather have Anderson than Grossman, but maybe that's just me. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) Why should Dungy want the Browns in the playoffs more than the Titans? This sums it up perfectly. The Titans are a solid team, but the Browns have the talent to do some damage in the playoffs.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 07:52 PM) Then stick with our minnows and see if one of them develops a genetic mutation that turns them into a bigger fish than we expected. Instead of giving away 2/3 of our minnows for 1-2 other minnows that someone else has because everyone out there says the minnows in the next lagoon are prettier. I swear sometimes I think I'm a regular at a bass fishing forum.
  4. QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 29, 2007 -> 09:25 AM) Except many news reports still link Crisp as part of a deal for Santana. Probably rehashing old news. Plain and simple, if the Twins trade Santana to Boston, a CFer is going to Minnesota and the Red Sox will trade no other CFer.
  5. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) I didn't say I would, I just said I see it happening eventually. I also see myself patenting an invention that allows a person to s*** bricks of gold.
  6. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) They are just throwing speedy cf names out there at this point, because they know that's what ozzie likes, there is no validity to this rumor. They also bring it up probably because KW was close to picking up him last offseason. By and large, I don't understand why Colorado would just up and move him, but if they did, it would be OK so long as it doesn't come at a high price; never buy high on a player from Colorado.
  7. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 08:59 AM) I think he is treating now, and this past season as basically one in the same, although he admits the latest moves have improved things a bit. Yeah that QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 09:15 AM) Yeah-getting rid of a 200 inning pitcher for a shortstop we have for one year is the high point of his idea of improving. Williams has got to go Why focus on one move? The Sox added an outfielder that will be around for 5 years, another outfielder who will be around for 4 years, and didn't add any crippling contracts to the team, though I'm not personally a fan of the Linebrink signing. And as Yas pointed out, the Sox wouldn't have had Garland past this year anyways, so that's a moot point. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) Whining? I'm just sad that our fans aren't all that bright, and yes it's a bitter pill to swallow when I see the majority of our fans are wrong. I hope you have a good excuse after we finish in 4th again this year though. I don't think you're bright, but I generally keep that to myself. And there is a good excuse; the Sox have gone into a slight rebuilding movement. KW has added some youth at the major league level over the past 6 months or so, and thus these players will be around for 5-6 more years. If you can't see that, then you are blind. Beyond that, you can't be wrong about what you think. You are wrong yourself in believing that.
  8. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) He throws too many pitches and fades around the 5th or 6th inning, leading me to believe if he can't get his pitch count under control, it may be better to move him to the pen and have him as a dominate closer. He threw over 200 innings last year. Why would you move him? The absolute only thing that will force Kazmir to the bullpen is health. Or a moron of a GM/manager
  9. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) Sorry wite, but that story was AWESOME!!! LOL, I know It's cool though, she wants to hang out, so it's all good
  10. QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 31, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) Yeah. Who hasn't gotten drunk and screamed misogynistic epithets at total strangers, I ask you? Don Imus was pretty sober, with minimal Metamucil mimosa buzz. too many big words
  11. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 1, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) It all depends on your definition of "win." Sure KW has a winning record as GM, but he has 1 playoff appearance in 7 years. Not good. Plus a 90 win season where the Sox were trounced by a surprising Detroit team and a Minnesota team that played absolutely ridiculous baseball down the stretch, to go along with a 2003 season where the Sox were like literally probably 4 bouncing balls that make it to the outfield away from going to the playoffs. If you deny the thought that Kenny Williams has built some very good teams - which you essentially are with the above statement - then you are basically denying fact. His current team is in the worst shape it has ever been in, so he will be given a shot to put a good team back on the field. I'm not sure he can, but there have been some steps towards improvement over the past 3 months. It's been a pretty crappy offseason, but I'm generally happy with the core group of players towards the future.
  12. Got drunk, listened to a girl vent (b****) for 2 hours, tried to find a condom and couldn't. Sober dude came to house and took me to the gas station, I went in to get some condoms and cigarettes, and went back to the house. Then the sober guy slept next to her, leaving me in the cold. F***ing cockblocked hardcore. I was about ready to beat the s*** out of him.
  13. Greatest freakin' day of my life. I woke up at my buddy's house, and saw a Bonds Macfarlane figure on the ground. I told him I wanted it and he gave it to me. Thing of beauty, isn't it?

    Finals Thread

QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 15, 2007 -> 01:33 PM) What goes BAAAA? a sheep? One final to go. Actually, it's one normal exam followed by a final; neat stuff, eh? It starts in a matter of 20 minutes. I, however, am not required to take the final as the lowest test grade is dropped anyways, so I'm probably not gonna take it, seeing as how I'd likely bomb it anyways. So, hope that I get an A on the non-final and that I in turn get an A in the class. Cuz that would be super neato.
  15. QUOTE(R.J. @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 03:56 AM) I truly believe this rumor is completely made up by someone who didn't know that Buehrle has a NTC for '08, but I want to kindly disagree with this notion in that Johnny Cueto and Joey Votto are two quality prospects. Cueto is a top 10 pitching prospect and Votto is a valuable 1B prospect. In a world where young, cheap, talented players are treated like gold, these guys fit the bill as "top prospects." Still, this deal is inconceivable and, on paper, doesn't quite coincide with what either team appears to be doing. If we were going to trade Buehrle, it would have been last year. He gave us a hell of a discount and will be effective and affordable for the duration of his contract. If we're going to have a fire sale we have plenty of guys to move. Pretty much hits it on the head, though if the Sox were to even think of shopping Buehrle, they'd have to look for the type of package the Orioles are looking to get for Bedard, if not more.
  16. QUOTE(Elgin Slim @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) Okay, Okay I get the idea. I thought that the Orioles were ready to give up on Daniel Cabrera and were willing to dump him. I guess I was wrong. The White Sox are also ready to dump Uribe; at their lowest values, Cabrera > Uribe. That's really all people are saying.
  17. Hawk has called more calls BS in the past 2 years than he did in his previous 10 or so. I remember being shocked and fired up when I heard him say it the first time (Garland hit Mientkiewicz and got thrown out of the game); now when he says it, I shrug it off as if it's normal routine. Hawk is over the hill. I'm happy he's been the play by play guy for however many years he has been, I've loved him, and I'm happy he got to see a World Series, but he's pretty terrible nowadays.
  18. QUOTE(Fantl916 @ Dec 18, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) haha this is going to sounds aweful... but for Bedard and Roberts it would probably take (i hope you're sitting down) a package similar to the one detroit gave florida... DLS, Danks, Crede, Sweeney, Richar, John Shelby, and McCulough... i think we can get away from dealing Fields in a deal like this cuz Bedard is a FA after this season and Roberts now comes with steroids baggage... Gio and Danks are interchangable, but i think Danks fits better here for Balt. because of the flux of pitching prospects they got from Houston and they might want someone more major league ready. crede makes sense as mora is garbage, and used to be a superutility guy anyway so he can be moved around. if not... Fields, Danks, Sweeney, Richar, Egbert, McCulough might get it done is it worth it for us? im not so sure, maybe if we were able to negotiate an extension with bedard before a trade. obviously this is all in good fun, i dont expect something like this to happen, but i thought a response to iamshack's question was needed... If you were to actually put a package together for both of them with the White Sox prospects, a combination of the two packages would probably be what you are looking at. I imagine if you are going to get Bedard, DLS must be included. And aside from that, I'd do as much as possible to keep Fields in Chicago long-term, atleast if the alternative is Joe Crede.
  19. I say get her Beavis and Butthead. If she likes that, you may want to make sure she is actually a girl before moving forward.
  20. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Dec 18, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) Floyd and Danks actually have plus pitches though. that is the thing. Garland doesn't have plus anything. Good sinker, good control
  21. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 18, 2007 -> 11:50 PM) I'm just excited to hear we may have an internal option by 2012. Oh, and by the way, I hereby nominate Kenny Williams be hereafter referred to as "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner." In fact, I think we should turn this offseason and the 08' season into a musical set to Warren Zevon's Greatest Hits album. Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner needs Lawyer's, Guns and Money as well... so long as members of Soxtalk can be the Werewolves of London
  22. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Dec 18, 2007 -> 11:41 PM) Definately overlooked the fact that they've got guys like Juan Rincon, Dennys Rayes, along with Joe Nathan to form an an above average pen. Unless Joe Nathan gets traded which is unlikely this is a solid pen. I don't completely take back what I said about Cleveland though. With Rafael Betancout, a decent Borowski and adding Kobayashi out of Japan probably won't hurt their pen. You are forgetting Rafael Perez in Cleveland. And Juan Rincon sucks. It's all about Neshek and Guerrier now a days.
