  1. At least we haven't invested $200 million into Abreu and Anderson... The flip side is nothing of value in terms of talent coming into the organization for those previously valuable assets.
  2. Bullpen gets three innings to cover again today. Lynn approaching the point where he might have some/limited trade value... then again, the Central is not exactly filled with offensive powerhouses from top to bottom like the East.
  3. Aaron Hicks will be next...
  4. Who would have imagined Chris Bassitt one day would have a $21 million per season price tag?
  5. “With the 40-game quarter pole having just been passed, we are starting to get a good idea as to where this baseball season is headed. Things are suddenly looking up in New York for Yankees and Mets. The Rays are good but maybe not as good as they’ve seemed. The rise of the Rangers in Texas looks real, the Padre malaise in San Diego is mystifying, and the balanced schedule has exposed the great divide between the good teams and the really bad ones in places like Oakland, Washington, Kansas City, Detroit, Colorado and Cincinnati.” https://sports.yahoo.com/bill-madden-yankees-offense-still-100000471.html Interesting the White Sox weren’t included along with those six other teams…Detroit is getting closer to .500 by the week.
  6. Why should the Sox spend over $185, let alone $200 million, when you just have to look at the Mets, Padres, Phillies, Angels, Cardinals, Red Sox, Mariners and Blue Jays to see where that spending has gotten them collectively? (Unless you are the Dodgers, Braves and Yankees, that is. Houston, to a lesser extent, as they are once again a mid tier payroll.) There's only ONE team, the Rangers, and that's mostly without deGrom... who have pretty much spent their way into playoff position as of today. Out of 12 current teams positioned for playoff spots..SEVEN are in the bottom half of MLB payrolls. In fact, six are in the Bottom 10, with Minnesota the only team in the 16-20 range. Those six teams would be Miami AZ Milwaukee Pittsburgh Baltimore and TB. Great for baseball, overall...not so much for the future of the Sox, since they have proven incapable of running a mid tier payroll and successfully competing for much of the last decade...and now it's quite obvious there will be even less pressure to spend, if that's possible.
  7. They just have to play Sheets until they are completely out of it. Then bring back Colas in the second half and give him another shot at playing everyday.
  8. Benintendi has a slightly better arm than Pods and Pierre. We tried this last year with Pollock and learned he's actually better in CF than right.
  9. Max Muncy Jr.
  10. 90-95% of the time the switch occurs from middle infield to corners. He doesn't have the range or lateral quickness and can't even imagine him on double play turns coming across bag and throwing back across his body. Bad bad bad idea.
  11. "The scouting report on Frazier was no secret to the Yankees when they acquired him from the Cleveland Indians. He’s athletic. His hands are lightning-fast. He’s also … really not good on defense. After his first stint at the major league level, the word “liability” got thrown around so much, it almost negated anything he could’ve possibly achieved offensively." yanksgoyard.com He was once more of a CFer coming up... and definitely doesn't have a RF arm. Of course, that didn't stop them from playing Pollock Sheets Vaughn Eloy etc. from being sent out there, either.
  12. They already gave up on this idea after trying it in the minors...
  13. Literally and figuratively...
  14. Haseley after his starring game is back down in 500s for OPS. Still better than Sosa or Romy.
  15. https://www.yahoo.com/news/quick-thinking-zack-greinke-helped-110000523.html
  16. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/damian-lillard-relationship-bulls-zach-190006033.html Have to love the line... I heard it from an "insider" but it was outside so take it with a grain of salt
  17. Even Houston wasn't really Houston at the beginning of the season...Altuve just came back.
  18. Okay. Well, that's the thing about baseball. It's a what have you done for me lately sport. Look at Robert and Burger right now. Or Joe Kelly. Recency bias. It's definitely crushing Tim Anderson right now, or Jose Abreu. A year ago, Giolito and Jose Berrios were at the very bottom of MLB... where Kopech was until yesterday (now 70/73 out of qualified.) Another example, 2-3 years ago, the Brewers wouldn't have traded Keston Hiura for anyone. "PHOENIX -- Keston Hiura remains in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. After the Brewers couldn't find a trade fit for the infielder and former top prospect over the weekend, he cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday." Still surprised Hahn thought Sosa Andrus Romy would be better at second. Well, perhaps surprised isn't quite the right word.
  19. Pippen was some great scouting too. Of course no Rodman without the presence of MJ and Scottie. (And now Larsa Pippen dating Jordan's son haha. Drama.)
  20. All that said, Ahmed Rosario is the best SS in this year's FA class. Yuck. He was very good in 2022, but that entire offense in CLE is putting too much pressure on themselves with all the pitching issues (back of pen now too)... and Rosario will have to deal with trade rumors should they struggle to get back to .500 the next 6-8 weeks.
  21. Even the Braves were not willing to give that contract to their own player. Just too inconsistent offensively. Great defender, though. 9 times out of 10 the players the ATL farm system keeps churning out is what allows them to compete year in and year out for decades.
  22. When he was drafted, a lot of scouts were actually claiming his T-bar hitting style with arms/elbow/loading mechanism would limit him to big-time NCAA success and major struggles in the pros.
  23. That division will be a dogfight all season long. The Brewers have such a terrible offense right now.
  24. Nobody who went to Harvard Law School in the Class of 1996 liked the guy back then either.
  25. Nobody said trade Moncada because he juggled lol. What was actually said was that play late yesterday was not a good reason to make Jake Burger a permanent DH or 1B. Point Two...holding onto Moncada next year when a team would be committing to a minimum of $29 million seems a bit dubious. You better be getting a superstar performance for $24 and $25 million per season for a franchise DEEPLY committed to never going over the $200 million payroll mark.
