  1. Hard to imagine the Blue Jays dealing Semien this early...they really want to extend him. And with four other big name SS’s going into FA (and the uncertain offseason), it could easily happen. Just wonder what type of financial hit the Jays are taking over these two Covid seasons. If the Orioles trade Mullins, who besides Means and Rutschman are they building around? Mancini’s a possibility but he’s the Konerko to that franchise.
  2. Escobar now with 17 homers and 49 RBI’s. Trading Vaughn at 60-75% of future value is dumb. Are we going to play Eloy, Sheets or Burger at 1B after Abreu is gone? Can say the same thing for Crochet versus the way he was throwing down the stretch last year...
  3. Ray Liotta mixed with Lucas? Good Field of Dreams tie in.
  4. The rebuild was always predicated on two of three (Jimenez, Moncada and Robert) being superstars or at least All-Stars. And TA7 continuing to do what he does so well.
  5. Ketel Marte, doing his own Engel impersonation... likely to go on DL for hamstring after sitting out trying to rehab it and re injuring it rounding first. Still have Escobar, Peralta, Reddick, Calhoun and Asdrubal Cabrera to consider. Escobar just added another XB hit.
  6. Well, he definitely is more Carlton/Alphonso Ribeiro. Probably more of a Family Ties guy. I always look at it from the perspective of one of my students at age 16-18, and they would miss 85-90% of his pop culture references. In that sense, he'd undoubtedly be a pretty good Jeopardy host. With Harrelson, if you were paying attention, you'd inevitably develop more of an appreciation for 50's, 60's and 70's baseball history.
  7. Maybe he will pitch better if he changes to the more Spanish-synched Teyron from Tayron.
  8. That last sentence, you’d have to fire the training staffs of 20-25 teams going by this year’s IL...not to mention another possible work stoppage next season. There certainly will be a more thorough investigation of what players did on their own from spring training last year through June/July and also this past offseason again. After all, it was Hahn just as much as anyone who was forced into the desperate situation of bringing Engel back as early as possible after the original injury. Another example, Mike Soroka of the Braves just reinjured his Achilles, not unlike Burger...who is that on? It’s not like he is the same size, either. What about the Glasnow allegations, blaming the commissioner for changing how pitchers grip the ball in midseason? https://www.yahoo.com/sports/how-sports-science-has-impacted-the-taxing-nba-season-005329202.html
  9. https://www.mlb.com/news/best-no-1-prospects-in-mlb-history While neither of Robert/Jimenez...or Tatis/Soto/Acuna officially made #1 prospect, this list is pretty interesting. Especially if we think of guys like Delmon Young, Heyward, Buxton, Benintendi, Profar and Bruce.
  10. Not to mention Eaton started with the DBacks and they got rid of him at the time for a very specific reason...we’ve seen and read all the stories. Why would they want him around influencing the rebuild? He would just be DFA’ed by most acquiring teams, with the Sox exchanging salary commitments.
  11. No, because first game will be completion of today’s suspended game beginning in the third inning. Essentially, almost the same thing.
  12. They would have called the game hours ago for a Mon-Thurs date in April or May...in the end, they knew ahead of time that playing a DHer on Sunday was going to be likely. Now if there was a terrible weather predicted tmrw, I might agree with you. You also have to look at it from the context of a family that can only go to one game a year, and the disappointment they might feel after driving say 2 1/2 or 3 hours each way from Iowa, Wisconsin or Indiana. What is the lasting impression they are left with?
  13. But that parking and concessions revenue can be booked...but will not be spent.
  14. If politics were given a rest, there wouldn’t be such a huge discrepancy in states approaching 55-60% vaccination rates vs. those still well under 50%. If masks weren’t political, Trump wouldn’t have publicly ripped his off after nearly dying from Covid. Just think if he’d expressed appreciation for having received a number of experimental treatments that were unavailable to anyone else at the time? Instead, he consistently exposed everyone in the WH to the virus by forcing the entire West Wing to de-mask...even after a near-death experience that would have humbled almost anyone else. Instead, the steroids had the opposite effect, making him believe that he was invincible. We’re heading for two Americas, and with just a few exceptions, they’re trending quite closely with the preferred presidential candidates from 2020. North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Tennessee, Iowa, Nebraska, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama, Indiana, Florida, Kansas, Idaho and Mississippi are all Republican states. You’d be hard pressed to call Arizona anything but a conservative state as well. The exceptions are Rhode Island, Wisconsin (but see their state legislature and numerous limitations placed on the governor), New Jersey, Delaware (yes, Biden’s home state), Illinois and New York...some of the largest states by population and outlying satellite areas. That doesn’t even include the relatively conservative state of Missouri. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109004/coronavirus-covid19-cases-rate-us-americans-by-state/
  15. The Umpire Strikes Back...are you saying it was actually intentional?
  16. Are we still allowed to make light of bullying when someone has a disability...? But yeah, he’s so bending over backwards trying to please, to be accepted as one of the guys...but that will never happen around a group of professional athletes who will at best tolerate, and, at worst, incessantly make fun of him behind his back. Hawk at least had that gravitas. It can be overrated, and be overused, but it also has its place when calling home run balls or going after umpires.
  17. All Charlotte (look at home/road splits) stats come with a stern warning not to put too much faith in them...that said, you can probably stick a fork in Rutherford.
  18. DBacks on verge of setting a new daily record, 24 consecutive road losses. On pace for 45-117, record is still 120, the Tigers or early 60’s Mets. Feels like an Escobar/Reddick/A.Cabrera trade is coming...
  19. A trick someone taught me in the Philippines, dump two regular sized M&M’s into a large buttered popcorn, makes it so much better. Haven’t had those raisins in a couple of years, much harder to find in China...have to go to a specialty candy shop.
  20. They’re claiming Southpaw brought the popcorn to them but it was a Covid protocols infraction since too many shared from it.
