Also depends on the atmosphere down at Charlotte. Does Grudzielanek have any better shot at getting through to him? Doubtful. Hopefully the pairing with Moncada elevates his overall game.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 09:59 AM) Pitching, you got: 1. Rodon 2. Shields 3. Lopez 4. Danish 5. Veteran signing Release one of Shields, cheap veteran signing or both when Giolito and/or Fulmer is ready. Or they can replace Danish. Seems they will push Fulmer, Adams and Guerrero since they're the most "expendable" now after the top guys...even Clarkin. Covey perhaps gets another shot. What is the incentive to release Shields unless he's holding someone back? Who exactly is being blocked now? Giolito?

https://www.yahoo.com/news/pauly-shore-impe...-173107808.html Paula Shore does a pretty good Stephen Miller impersonation. Not quite as good as Miller himself complaining about the janitors at his Santa Monica high school... Huckabee Sanders impersonation even better... https://www.yahoo.com/style/sarah-huckabee-...-210122777.html

He really has some personal animus against Blumenthal...this is the second or third volley against him. Working hard from New Jersey while White House goes through long planned renovation. Going to New York next week for more meetings. Sure, absolutely no golf. Or it's "working/productive" golf.

http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&sort=19,d Moncada Top 5 defender for the White Sox this year 12/18 players with negative scores...Cabrera, Anderson, Abreu and Davidson the main culprits. Engel not loved nearly as much as Leury.

The crazy thing is Bush took about the same amount of vacation time as Obama and Trump combined at the beginning of 2001... http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/07/politics/mik...2020/index.html Pence goes ballistic over NY Times article that alleges he's preparing for a presidential run in 2020

Who is the last MLB star to grow up in Wisconsin? Just curious. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=m...itting/2017/ALL Austin Beck hasn't exactly distinguished himself so far, fwi. Royce Lewis, though, has had a strong pro debut for the Twins. Hunter Greene will start out as a DH and potentially reliever for Billings as early as Tuesday.

Anderson's value right now is about even with Avi Garcia. They'll try him in CF or LF before they just attempt to dump his contract. They have a lot invested in his succeeding for this organization. As far as the Starling Castro comparisons, they're not even in the same ballpark offensively.

**SPOILER THREAD** GAME OF THRONES ** SPOILER THREAD **

Been waiting on that one for awhile. For some reason, expected the gold to be intercepted they kept on referencing it so much. Now that there's balance in the Westeros war again...do they turn to the common enemy in the North or go after the Greyjoy fleet? How will Jamie resurface with his iron hand? When will Jon Snow and Danaerys hook up? What do the Dothraki do when not fighting, and where will they go? How do you match the Dothraki and Unsullied with a looming naval battle? Will/Do they mount a rescue mission to liberate Ueron's captives? Does the Iron Bank flip sides again? How does the catapult weapon launch something so flimsy that Danaerys can almost break it off with her bare hands? -
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 09:03 PM) The Trout-less Angels and woeful Twins are hovering just below .500. The Brewers, a truly miserable roster that had no intentions of competing to start the year, are only 0.5 back of the juggernaut Cubs. All it would take is Rodon/Lopez/Giolito all playing up to their potentials and it will be extremely difficult for the Sox to be so bad again. Simple, better than expected pitching, Pina/Shaw/Thames gave a lot more than expected, Braun is still solid at his age and Arcia/Santana/Broxton all have a lot of potential and the results are starting to come around due to their minor league system supplementing the big league roster.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 08:29 PM) Tanking isn't a one year process. It will be years before this team isn't bad again. 2 1/2 years isn't exactly anywhere close to the 2009-2016 drought of irrelevance. The White Sox are in a much better position than any recent comparable rebuilds because of the immediate infusion from the three big trades, the presence of Rodon/Abreu/Avi, the surprise signing of Luis Robert and the lack of any bad deals other than Shields. Next, Detroit and KC will be irrelevant, Minnesota will never spend big and the Indians' pitching and payroll will finally bend in 2018 or likely 2019. Let's not forget the Indians' attendance is still less than 2,000 more per game despite the World Series appearance and the Sox throwing out one of the worst tank teams in recent MLB history.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 08:05 PM) I think we'll be better next year but our bullpen may be just as bad so I don't know if our record would show it. You have to assume Fulmer, Danish, Guerrero, Adams...some of those secondary arms will make an impact as they get extended trials in the pen and spot starts. (Losing Burdi is a blow that can't be ignored, either). Then you have Jones, Putnam (50/50) and Petricka pushing to be traded. And certainly they'll throw everything at the wall with waiver moves, trying to discover another Kahnle, Jenks or Santos. Wouldn't be a shocker to see Hector Santiago back in a swingman role, either. Maybe Covey can be effective in one inning bursts in the upper 90's?

The bottom would be falling below Miami, Oakland and Tampa Bay. That's simply not going to happen. The one thing that does need to happen is hitting at least triples on their next two high first round draft picks and looking like they will be a very competitive team in 2020 during at least the second half of the 2019 season. 2019 is like 2014 was for the Cubs and Astros, but odds are that 2020 is the year. Being mindful how important the new tv contract will be, you can bet they make at least one splashy addition going into 2019, if not 2. The money will be there. 2018 will be the rock bottom year for attendance/revenues.

No way Giolito comes up before Lopez...who has been much more consistent throughout the last couple of months.

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/246875380/yo...nd-offensively/ We can least rest assured about one of our middle infield spots. I'm tempted to say we saw greatness out of Anderson as well last year, but Moncada seems much less likely to get down on himself or let offensive (or even off-field) struggles impact his game defensively...you can see that he really enjoyed the glare of the spotlight (was calm about his numbers) and didn't shrink from it at all.
-
Too disrespectful to the sport...the Sox never brought up Michael Jordan. This would be more of an Eddie Gaedel/Minoso sideshow.
-
Who were the three players benched for not running hard earlier in the season? By my count, Moncada now has 20 k's in 58 plate appearances (9 walks, hbp). We have a lot of "25th/26th players" on a big league contending roster now. Hanson, Saladino, the catchers, Engel...pretty much the entire bullpen, Shields, Pelfrey and Holland. Yolmer is seriously fading, too. And even Leury doesn't look like the same hitter he was before his hand/wrist problem. Of course, we also lost Avi, Frazier and Cabrera from that line-up.

The Big Sick is the best movie this summer. Not even close, imo. For action or comic fans, Spider-Man or Wonder Woman.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) The 3rd best team in baseball employs both Edwin Jackson and Matt Albers. Wasn't Jacob Turner on their roster, too?

He can follow in the footsteps of Tyler Flowers and Adam Engel...

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 05:56 AM) We're going to have a ton of money to spend, so why can't it be us? Machado & Donaldson are both free agents the year before, so that will knock two big spenders off the list (although I think we'll be active with those guys as well). Honestly, there are only so many spots to address and 3B seems like the best bet today based on our current needs and the potential options that should be available in the coming years. Donaldson's been hurt for most of this season and has less than 15 homers, despite Sox pitchers helping quite a bit...he's either the greatest "buy low" candidate at age 32-36, or a disaster in waiting, along the lines of Dunn and LaRoche at similar ages. We actually haven't had much luck with vets in this age range since 2003-2005, unless you also want to consider Thome a net success. Still, longer than a decade.

Arenado's going to get paid the GDP of Aruba by someone... What are the reports on Burger's defense so far? Looks like three errors in 21 games, that's not bad at all for those levels.

Profar only has plus value at SS or maybe second/CF combo. The only way this would make any sense was Anderson playing the first half of 2017 in Charlotte...flipping Profar at the deadline.
