  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 06:45 AM) names names names names Fine, in your opinion, should they trade or hold Robertson? Do you believe Jones can successfully post an 80-85% save conversion percentage? Do you trade Jones instead of Robertson? Do you trade neither, and why? Who are the three best equipped minor league pitchers for 7th-9th inning duties? Need any more, or will that keep you busy enough for now?
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 05:26 AM) And for the next time anyone wants to say that its only Donald Trump who doesn't respect "sub-groups" and that it's totally not something their party would tolerate for decades, folks I give you Steve King (R-IA). This text is from the Washington Post but they won't let me insert a link, here's one with a video clip. Unfortunately, Iowa is legitimately in play for Trump right now...
  3. Plus it's now abundantly clear that two paragraphs of that speech were stolen from Michelle Obama's 2008 speech. At any rate, Ivanka will blow everyone out of the water Thursday. Tiffany, not so much.
  4. Ryan arguably was one of the best GMs in the 90s and first half 2000s until Bill Smith started to run things into the ground. Victim of Buxton disappointment...Sano and Berrios as well. Too much was expected of them, in hindsight.
  5. Even if Jones (ultimately) fails, which is worse case scenario that you didnt get more value trading him now, you can still throw Burdi, Danish, Hansen (maybe!), Stephens, Guerrero....Ynoa, Kahnle, etc., at the problem. Some will stick, it's simply a numbers (and talent) game. Maybe even Gonzalez or Fulmer.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 10:11 PM) No offense dude, but you're totally f***ing wrong here. The sweetheart lease deal is obviously valuable, but is not nearly as valuable as you're making it out to be. How much do you think other teams pay in rent per year? Based on my limited research, it sounds like $20M might be on the high end, making our lease under-market by $18M/year. Now consider our lease only lasts 13 more years, putting its undiscounted pre-tax value at $234M. I don't have access to Excel right now, but if you took the present value of the after-tax lease savings, the value is probably closer to $100M. Given that Reindsdorf only has a small stake in the team, his portion of the sweetheart lease deal likely makes up at most a percent or two of his billion dollar valuation. Are you including the highly favorable parking agreement for the Sox? As far as the poll, currently running about 80-85% sell, although how expansive the selling isn't possible to determine.
  7. They wont have Engel and May together on an "all in" 2017 roster....rebuilding move.
  8. Someone gets it...yay! $11 million closers are unnecessary luxuries on .500ish teams.
  9. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 03:15 AM) The last guy that shutout the Sox was around 110+. This one's on Robin. Way too many games lost by the bullpen. Why acquire an "elite" closer for a Top 3 salary in that category if you can't even trust him to close out a 3-0 lead against non-elite Mariners hitters in a pitcher's park?
  10. Lots of rumors flying about a possible Beltran for Hochevar trade. Hochevar would partially replace whoever the Yanks trade (Miller/Chapman) in a set up role...with KC, Beltran would play RF primarily. Royals would then have huge weakness in set up with Soria struggling and Hochevar gone. But they desperately need more pop offensively.
  11. She has to show some respect to Warren, who's absolutely popular with the same groups Sanders won over and don't really like Hillary but like Trump even less. Fwiw, they don't particularly like each other....and it would be a shocker for her to be named VP. Same with Sanders. They couldn't control or keep either "on message," and that's anathema to the Clintons, who treasure personally loyalty over all other qualities.
  12. Selfish piece of garbage? He might be the most popular and most well-respected teammate of anyone in the entire organization. Perhaps the best overall since Pierre in terms of work ethic, swagger and positive attributes.
  13. Wilson Ramos seems more likely. Gomez or Rasmus in CF. Two moves that have to go exactly right to provide much hope at contention in 2017.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 05:40 PM) It is easy to say sell, but once you do sell, unless you are Caulfield, you can't take it back. Some prospects are nice, but who do the Sox trade that brings back top prospects who, actually are any good? There were several people excited about Avi Garcia back in the day. How does acquiring players like that enhance the future? No,way would I trade Sale or Q and not get at least so,etching major league back. Trade Robertson and you will spend the next few years looking for a reliever. It isn't like they are going to be able to make much of a splash in the free agent market. If I were Hahn, I would be looking for offensive upgrades from teams that want financial relief. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...braces-new-team Yes, I was 10x more ebullient than Hahn and Bell...lol. I called him the first seven tool player, and a surefire future HoFer. Except I didn't say anything remotely resembling that.
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 03:02 PM) Hahn is a good solid baseball man. He is not the problem Based on what? The idealized version or reality-based one?
  16. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 03:00 PM) They will be in baseball hell if Hahn and his staff are allowed to sell off pieces. I have zero faith that they can actually scout correctly. I'd rather sit here and watch them rot in mediocrity than let them tear it down and wallow in misery for decades. We're your mediocre, but low-cost option for MLB baseball in Chicago!! Great...that will put attendance at 18-20000 per game next year. Indians for sure will outdraw us. Tight battle with A's and Rays for last.
  17. QUOTE (Scoots @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) Well, they had no expectations in 2013 or 2014. They did last year and this year with nothing to show for it... After leading all of 2012 until the final two weeks? 2014, sure.
  18. Hahn making it easier to fire him than Ventura. Let's bring Fulmer out of the pen when the game's essentially over. Should have just left him alone with his regular Birm schedule or promoted him to Charlotte.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 07:36 AM) He will probably go in the same class as Guerra, Semien, Puig and Carter, no? No they will have to wait a minimum of five years, if not for the Veterans Committee. What HoF career did you call recently? Let me guess, Chris Sale...
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 07:44 AM) Except he wasn't available in June. I know you were only posting what the White Sox would do, that is why you included signing him in June with giving Latos $10 million and Gerardo Parra $8 million, a couple things the Sox surely would have done, Right up there with giving Ubaldo Jimenez the biggest contract in White Sox history...brilliant stuff. If we signed Parra, we'd AT LEAST have a lot better DH production than Garcia. It's his defense that's dragging down his WAR.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 07:23 AM) Remember....the Sox should have signed Desmond after the draft! That's what Hahn wanted to do with Fowler and Desmond. He wasn't going to surrender the pick for anyone but Alex Gordon and BJ Upton, who luckily didn't want to come to the Sox. Smart strategy.
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Fixed. Gee, I spent all of twenty five words this offseason talking about him. Everyone went over the same list of about 500 players who would have been better options than Avi Garcia. Unsurprisingly, he still sucks and we still need a big bat. I didn't even argue nearly as strongly for Alex Gordon as Richie Allen.
  23. I think I should copy and paste my thousands of words on why Desmond would succeed starting in December...because there weren't many here who thought signing him was a good idea at all. Bad defense. NL player. In decline. Won't easily be able to convert to outfield play. Too many strikeouts. Etc.
  24. The Brewers don't have to trade Lucroy...they're doing just fine financially. Whereas the Padres weren't sure at all how well Pomeranz was going to hold up over time and felt they sold high compared to what they paid for him. Lucroy's also their franchise player, with Braun entering the decline years of his career. Nothing to see here.
  25. Robin Ventura will go directly into the HoF when his managerial career is over...no need to even insult him with a vote.
