Great baserunning.... Well, basically it would have been 1st and 3rd two outs regardless. Probably not a double play ball.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) Was hitting Abreu intentional? No, he's been at 96 MPH mostly tonight and tried to throw it as hard as he possibly could (98)...when he does that...the balls veers up and in against RH batters.
-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) good job putting it in play I will take it. Not when the bases should have been loaded with no outs...!!! Not selective enough, too anxious to get the big hit.
-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:15 PM) how many fastball at 95-96 has he thrown right down the middle? He doesn't have great stuff tonight and our guys are just not hitting. He's really throwing as hard as he can and losing some of his mechanics, especially the HBP against Abreu. Garcia chased ball 4 there. That would have been huge to have bases loaded and no outs. Got too impatient...lucky he didn't hit into a DP.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:14 PM) They have just been great the last 20 years See Hahn, Rick. It takes time to change the organizational philosophy. If Moore had been the GM for the past 20 years, your retort would be relevant here. Maybe the White Sox need an actual organizational philosophy for the minors and majors like the Cardinals put together....a guidebook for every single player in the organization to read. It's not rocket science, Buddy Bell.

QUOTE (Condor13 @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:06 PM) I love that Sale is throwing his change up to lefties a lot tonight. Made Gordon look really bad...still he's given up hits to Moustakas, Hosmer and Morales from his weaker side.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) Ok Micah, slow down son before you kill yourself. No surprise Garcia was also involved in that near Faces of Death experience.
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:05 PM) Royals are 4 spots better on team rank in bb% then sox but lowest in k% Because the Royals are taught from the beginning in short-season/rookie leagues to put the ball in play, especially up the middle...

Jose Abreu Speaks His Mind on Sox' Poor Play -- a 1st?
caulfield12 replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ideally, it's Jose as the obvious leader (since he's an everyday player)....Sale/Samardzija/Robertson among the pitching staff....and then Eaton, Ramirez and Geo Soto. Of course, the point always missed is the best leader on most really good teams is USUALLY the catcher. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) Steal second Micah! Unless his time from delivery to home is slower because of his wind-up, they're better not forcing the issue until Micah is comfortable reading all the opposing pitchers in the AL Central. Seems like more aggressive outs on the basepaths would just lead to further frustration from the offense/Sale. Plus Perez has a hose.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 06:59 PM) What'd the replay show there? Ventura is going bean someone now. That would be mature. Ozzie-esque, though.
-
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 05:58 PM) Yes, Sale is 7-8 vs. KC, but you didn't mention his 2.68 ERA vs. your boys. Ventura is 2-2 with a 4.67 ERA vs. Sox. I think Dick Allen may be on to something. That latter is a scary thought. Of course, Kluber should have won yesterday going by the fact that he's the incumbent Cy Young winner and had three very solid starts prior to last night where the Indians scored a grand total of 5 runs for him.

http://www.ew.com/article/2015/04/23/aveng...ltron-ew-review Avengers review. B- Seems like this one will be a huge successful financially but a step back for the series artistically/creatively...sounds a bit like Furious 7 but with 3 times as many characters jammed into that 2 1/2 hours (to sell more action figures and Happy Meals, one would guess). That's why the "smaller" feeling pictures like the Captain America ones, the first Iron Man, the first Thor....that are more "personal" and intimate will probably end up as our favorites. Sometimes, you can overdo it with the action/set-pieces. Maybe that moment has finally arrived. Btw, the next Furious movie will premiere in two years and somehow M.Night Shyamalan got funding for yet another bomb, THE VISIT (maybe, just MAYBE, he could pick a better title for once???) http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_visit_2015/ 2 out of 3 positives, that's amazing for him. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ex_machina/ Has an up-and-coming actress and a sleek look, garnering lots of positive reviews

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) With Sale, I use pen not pencil. He is 5-0 in March/April the last 2 years. Going against his 7-8 career record against KC....losing 14 of the last 17 head-to-head vs. KC, etc. I'm not sure I would bet my nest egg here. The thing that's scary to me is Ventura hasn't pitched a game reminiscent of his 2015 post-season. He's scuffled with control, injuries and emotions and hasn't put everything together.

Jose Abreu Speaks His Mind on Sox' Poor Play -- a 1st?
caulfield12 replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2015/3/4/...-sox-underrated Probably Quintana's success has something to do with THIS. By the way, the PED's charges happened when he was with the Mets' organization...pre-Yankees. In 2006, at age 17, Quintana was signed by the Mets out of Colombia, but violated the minor league baseball drug policy. He was suspended for the start of his first minor league season, and was ultimately cut by the Mets in July. The Yankees then signed Quintana, where he played for their Dominican Summer League for two seasons, and ended up playing two seasons in the Yankees minor league system making it up to High-A ball in 2011 where he went 10-2 with a 2.91 ERA. http://www.pinstripealley.com/2012/9/11/33...is-just-another To be wholly fair, it is also possible they saw some things to like but didn't like them enough to push another play off the 40-man roster. In retrospect, this seems a dubious excuse; the Yankees lost not a single player in the draft, and even found room to take two pitchers, acquiring Cesar Cabral through the Royals and selecting Brad Meyers from the Nationals. They even protected David Adams, a now-25-year-old second baseman who has some real pop for a middle infielder (.295/.378/.448 in the minors) but just never plays (and as long as he's stuck behind Robinson Cano, probably never will even if he figures out how to stay healthy). They also still had Greg Golson on the roster heading into the Rule 5 draft, and subsequently punted him to make room for one of the two pitchers. In fact, when I have asked general manager Brian Cashman about this, he has told me there was not even much of an argument to do so...that turns out to be an utter failure of development and/or being able to self-analyze. Quintana might be a similar case, at least as to the brevity of his celebrity. His fastball sits at just 90 mph. He doesn't walk many, but he doesn't strike out many either, and his groundball rate is good but hardly exceptional. The White Sox play good defense. In front of a different quality of leather, he might not look as good. Basically, this is not a guy from whom you should expect consistency, and if he loses an inch off of his fastball, Abner help him. LOL about the White Sox playing good defense...but that was the case (actually) for most of 2012. Not so much since then. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) The Tigers just got swept and the Sox can get within 3.5 games of 1st with a win tonight. This is another big series for the central. With Sale on the mound it's critical to take this first one and at least get 2/3 here. The Royals are a bit of a mess after the Oakland series now is a great time to go for a sweep. Four game series. I think it's more of an issue why they're playing down to the Twins....3-3 against the worst team in the AL and 8-1 against the rest of MLB (one loss to OAK). Maybe the same overconfidence that struck down the White Sox against lesser division opponents over the last 10-15 years.

Just once, I'd like to see them sign an Endy Chavez, Fr.Gutierrez or Juan Lagares quality defender in the OF...to be used as a defensive replacement. If Shuck was a good enough defensive upgrade, that would be one thing...but I have a feeling RV isn't going to pull either Cabrera or Avi for JB Shuck because of the offensive sacrifice isn't being offset enough like with DeAza/Viciedo. Maybe...someday...Thompson, but they still want to see if he can develop his bat.

Betances is very tough and maybe even better than advertised...you can certainly see why they were willing to let Robertson (who's been simply great for the Sox) go.

QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) excellent point, there are 2 factors, 1 or which was mention with the old Harry Carey and his sidekick, the one that got fired. he said, the cold wx affects the pitchers differently and esp coming from spring training. i remember he even mention at one time that they should extend spring training an extra week, with that week being in there home town. Jimmy Piersall....my second White Sox autograph, following Claudell Washington...although I never saw him as a player, just knew the whole "Fear Strikes Out" story. -
Focus was better than I expected...although it's still well short of the Ocean's movies. Will Smith and Margot Robbie had some pretty incredible chemistry, which obviously wasn't well received in real-life by Jada Pinkett. Will put it this way...5X better than Runner, Runner with Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, although that's a VERY low bar or standard to get over. For most of the movie, it was quite watchable. The thing I kept thinking, though, is whenever you're on top of the world, something will strike you down, whether you're Tom Cruise, Meg Ryan, Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie or now Smith, who around 5 years ago could do no wrong in Hollywood. In general, Americans tend not to be too forgiving about extramarital affairs (depending on how they go down) from their "role models." When it's the president, maybe the expectation is lower, haha. Would be hard pressed to say who's the most popular actor today...I guess Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling are close. For me, personally, Clooney and Denzel Washington have always been my two favorites, although I can see how Clooney's "The Player" smugness and "where is he saving people in the world today?" thing could be annoying to some. From everything you read, he is a very genuine and honest person, and a bit unconventional (see his choice of wife, when for the last 15 or so years he joked he would never marry again nor have children).

Perception. If you ask 1000 casual fans who Eddie Collins and Carlton Fisk played for, the answers will be the Philadelphia A's and Boston Red Sox. That's life as a White Sox fan.

Pitching match-ups for White Sox/Royals series
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Another way to look at it is 21-41 against KC without Sale starting or relieving sometime during the game. -

It's basically the same exact design as Kauffman Stadium....minus the outfield fountains, and the fact that the upper decks in KC gradually slope down towards the foul poles instead of staying at the same height all the way around.
