  1. Mariners and Rangers meeting with identical 84-68 records....Dunning at 10-6, 3.78 ERA on the bump.
  2. Getting crushed. But Braves and Brewers don't have exactly have the look of teams coasting down the stretch either.
  3. Dan Fabian has essentially been their analytics top guy for over a decade. https://www.southsidesox.com/2012/2/28/2831454/sss-meets-dan-fabian-chicago-white-sox-director-of-baseball-operations Wonder how or what changes there? ND/local roots guy.
  4. https://www.mlb.com/news/josh-barfield-finds-success-in-d-backs-front-office https://www.amazon.com/MVP-Machine-Baseballs-Nonconformists-Players/dp/1541698940 The MVP Machine (book by Travis Sawchik and Ben Lindbergh) has a chapter dedicated to Brian Bannister’s work combining analytics and on field player development. So I’m actually excited about this hire. Also highly recommend the book. "For too long, stat geeks like me ignored the 'development' side of 'scouting and development.' The MVP Machine is the book that's going to change that. Travis Sawchik and Ben Lindbergh persuasively and entertainingly demonstrate that a baseball player's success is less about God-given talent and more about innovation, hard work, and the willingness to take a more scientific approach to the game. Read it, and you won't think about baseball in quite the same way again."―Nate Silver, founder and editor-in-chief of FiveThirtyEight
  5. Tommy Pham calls out Mets position players for lack of work ethic https://sports.yahoo.com/mets-manager-buck-showalter-shrugs-off-tommy-pham-blasting-teams-work-ethic-235435076.html
  6. https://www.mlb.com/standings/wild-card/2023-09-21 Going to be tied with the Marlins and 1/2 game ahead of the Reds coming down to the final week Assuming a 4 run Pirates' lead holds up.
  7. With the Padres and Reds (likely) eliminated....Burger is the last really interesting case study of inept Sox front office work. Madrigal will never actively cheer for, certainly while he's on the Cubs.
  8. How the Rays' bullpen went from worst to one of the best ever Tampa Bay relievers having best single-month K-rate since 1969 https://www.mlb.com/news/rays-bullpen-improvement-in-2023
  9. Dealing with quad tightness Burger left Wednesday's game against the Mets early due to right quad tightness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Advice: Burger was pulled after making an error on a throw home during the third inning. No details regarding the severity of Burger's injury were provided, but with an extra day between games for Miami, there's a chance Burger returns without missing any time.
  10. Seems more logical to hire the coach/es who made Perez great rather than trying to turn him into a coach/mentor. That would have never worked with AJ. Maybe Perez and Quero...but isn't the goal also not to keep creating more cliques in the locker room?
  11. Uh oh center cut fastball 95 mph 8-6 Pirates had to start Keller for fantasy playoffs lol pitcher win in jeopardy too sigh
  12. Looks like he just made his 9th error at third and also got pulled from the game for Edwards/Berti combo.
  13. The Marlins/Burger are right there on the cusp of haunting the Sox throughout the playoffs as well...at least it would be nice to have a rooting interest in the postseason. Somehow the idea of rooting for Abreu and the Astros just falls completely flat.
  14. Might as well just name Perez the player/manager/catching coach and kill three birds with one stone...
  15. https://www.mlb.com/royals/team/front-office/gene-watson Watson has experience with multiple other orgs (Angels more recently) and Barfield helps tick off the Balta Boxes as well.
  16. “It's a reflection of the elitism now saturating the highest levels of baseball. The generation of young executives that believes it's reinventing the game could use a reminder that the truly elite wear the uniform. After all, a kid has a better chance of getting into Harvard than reaching the big leagues. As the Red Sox seek a fresh start after four largely irrelevant seasons under Bloom, perhaps a return to the basics is in order. Prospects are to be nurtured and protected, but they can also be traded for proven talent. Payroll flexibility is nice, but only if you use it. The big-league club matters at least as much as the farm system.” ….. Allow me this indulgence, but it's no coincidence the game's bloated titles have proliferated during the rise of the bloodlessly impersonal front office. Numbers matter more than people to such an extent that merely calling them numbers betrays your ignorance, because the correct term is "data." Everything is a stat, everything can be quantified, and the numbers rule all. It's how the Red Sox could sign a parade of 7.00 ERA pitchers during Bloom's tenure, because the underlying data supported it. It's also why every front office now employs an army of analysts, whose primary purpose is to make the case for and against everyone, so nobody can make a decision or ever be wrong. In a world where traditional baseball men are being composted in favor of cookie-cutter Ivy Leaguers with the same haircuts and the same idiosyncratically privileged degrees in Latin or art history, no one can settle for a quotidian title like general manager. Organizations must devote entirely too much thought to why their new leader should be called chief baseball officer, which is what the Red Sox settled on four years ago, and which I've resented typing ever since. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/simple-request-red-sox-hiring-171834000.html

  20. But what happens to Jeremy Haber, lol? This puts all the Dayton Moore rumors to bed, at least.
  21. Quickest route to the GM job...Getz isn't going to get a decade of 100+ loss teams...it's only going to take 2-3 more years of that abject misery.
  22. I've seen the name of course but Twitter is blocked here in China and sometimes the VPN is unreliable.
